This was my thought too. Stress, nerves, anything would have been a better answer even if pillow is the honest truth.

I'd totally buy that the dude would have trouble sleeping and that it's hard to control that. As for his performance today, just say I gave it my best even though I wasn't at my best and leave it at that.
Going straight to excuses like altitude, my pillow and shorts is just a bad look. Imagine Fox now looking at this dude complaining about the free shorts he chose to wear as if that is what kept him from being first...Even worse is getting an attitude and defensive when asked about how it affected his performance.

It seemed like Cody was just staying with Flo and encouraging her so he'd have an excuse to not try hard. NOBODY else in that race could talk on the climbs but he was constantly talking to Flo. Also between the pillow thing and excuses at the end... just eliminate that man already

Yeah his strategy today as soon as he felt he was struggling and would finish far behind other guys was "okay i'm weak so let's find judge's sympathy helping someone... it may work". Pityful how he always hides himself with excuses.
But i think it's the production's strategy to keep him a bit more (judges are not dumb..), to get some more audience.

I found that so fake and cringe. Not genuine at all IMO.
He was playing the card of a good guy, for judges to notice as a supporter. If he would do that to Emmet in top 3, that would be worth mentioning, but man, you are on the bottom. We know female and male WATS are close but incomparable. Thus this has no value, at all.
If I was Flo, Cody would be pissing me the Fuck off with all this "just breathe" and telling her to take a break and stuff
I've been trying to give him the benefit of the doubt ever since the "bad attitude" early on (who wouldn't be upset at underperforming and isn't that kind of criticism to hide your emotions toxic?), but that "I'd rather be lucky than good" comment as they walked back to the tent after the no-elimination announcement should have caused a take-backsie elimination so powerful that it warped Tori back in.
I would like to preemptively congratulate Flo and Emmitt on winning this years Pinkbike Academy.

I wish they would’ve saved the no elimination for a pair of riders that both deserved it. Cody and Alaina are both so obviously in the bottom 2. The competition will be much more exciting and less predictable without them.

I wanna give Cody the benefit of the doubt. After all this is "reality TV" and the editors can frame him however they want, BUT: I can't shake the feeling he shouldn't even be in this competition. This pseudo supportive behavior is total BS. He just wants to appear in a certain way to get brownie points which is so transparent.

I can't believe this shit. I was so disappointed that Tori had to leave in the last episode but I chalked it down to the fact that they probably Had to elimate someone but now they pull this shit and Cody gets saved again. Rediculous. Seems Cody has some friends in high places at this point.

As soon as I saw Cody stop and do up his pants I knew he would use that as an excuse. They have been riding for 6+ days and have an unlimited wardrobe, no excuse to be in the wrong pants.

Cody only stuck with Flo so he wouldn't finish behind any of the girls.. lets her lead the downhill the first 2 times and then bombs it on the 3rd himself, and pretends to have given it his all after the line. His encouragement was just an act

Totally agree but I’m sure they keep him around for “tv” drama and or ratings. With such an opportunity at play I can’t stand to see someone with poor effort and attitude. What the directors should understand is that most people watching this are mountain bike riders and we keep it real! I personally don’t want fake drama 💯
Israel was a top chap. His attitude consistently gave me stoke.
@@HerrSheeps I can see the positive side of his attitude. Definitely an animated and likeable guy. But then when he bragged about destroying the field in the first competition and then coming in dead last, I thought, "Wow, that's about as weak as it can get." He deserved the axe for that alone. If you're gonna talk big, you gotta bring the big action. If he had at least been competitive, then I'd give him some slack. But he was embarrassingly OTB.
I won a few races in my day and I NEVER bragged about any of it. Ooops, I guess that's bragging! But that's now! Lined up at the start of our home crit, I heard someone in the group ask, "Is that Dude guy here today?" Yup, I was there! But I was so embarrassed hearing that, I didn't know what to say, so I didn't say anything. And yes, I won most of the primes and the race that day. So I did indeed "bring it!"

Tori can't turn as well as Cody but at least she put in a honest effort with every challenge. I hope she gets a job like Addison for next season.

I thought Emmett was gonna hold off the Ebike! Oh well. Next season they should have all the competitors around for all the competitions and just rank everyone in each week then use that to pick a winner. That way everyone gets to showcase their strengths.

I might be wrong but looks like Emmet was the only guy who locked his rear suspension on the climbs. I didn't see all the other guys reach to unlock the can before dropping
Maybe left the suspension unlocked for extra traction on the slippery climb
Leaving it unlocked can really help with traction but you will "waste" a little energy. I think I saw him unlock it before dropping into the first trail though.
@@BlackFlag94 agree I would have thought most would have at least put it to Medium firmness if traction was a problem… but seemed the biggest problem was energy and momentum up that hill where firm or locked our rear would help the most. Good eye noticing this!
There were some studies concerning full suspension XC bikes showing, that the advantage from locking up their rear shock is statistically insignificant.

Props to Kyra for effort and attitude, she's taken Tori's place in my eyes. Flo has it all. Emmett is awesome and Brad and Cameron are no slouches either. Alaina's slow but doesn't make excuses like Cody. Laura is a dark horse.

If I understand it correctly, the eliminated competitors remain on the mountain until the entire season's shoot is completed. (?) If that's so, I'd enjoy little snippets of updates as to what they were doing while the others were continuing to compete. Like, "Meanwhile, Tori's on a hike and Israel reads in the shade," something like that. 🤷

Cody looking after the other competitors at the end of the race is laudable but he’s competing to represent a brand and become a pro racer, not a coach and water boy. They keep him around for the drama but there is no way a brand wants him representing their product. He lacks passion.

One of the things I loved most about PBA was it didn’t have the normal drama or the villain of a regular reality TV show. It was all about the biking. There is no way that Orbea would ha e anything to do with Cody representing their brand. The fact that Cody is still there, has taken all the excitement away for me of looking forward to the show next week. I will most likely still watch. But, that’s no longer a guarantee.

I love this show but i wish they would change the elimination format as it's so frustrating seeing good riders getting kicked out after a bad day and lucky riders being saved from elimination, they should make it like a race series and every week they get points for where they place that week.
If anyone other than Cody gets eliminated next week they have every right to be mega pissed.

Really does feel a waste to use up the normal one week of "nobody gets eliminated" on those two... they were both a good margin off the others. If anything I was more expecting a double elimination due to the margin.

Remembering this is a show, it feels like they've given contestants instrucitons on how to act... like last season Ben was instructed to act a "pretending you're a douchebag" role, and this time Cody was instructed to act "being a whiney bitch". I like to think it's showmanship behind it, and not reality, cause it's easier to not be even more pissed at last week's elimination.
Finally, Flo getting immunity when she did will enable her to choose to not take risks on the next challenge, especially since it's going to be one where there's a much higher chance for season-ending injuries.
Send Cody home he has literally not made any progress at all when it comes to mentally preparing yourself for these challenges and always complains . They better not send Kyra home because this girl never gives up and is always mentally focused on these challenges.
