The one thing that you and others who do reaction videos of Amira don't mention is that Amira is a "Natural". She has been given a wonderful gift and she has chosen to follow her gift. Although she was self taught in the beginning she has coaches to help her refine her gift. That's why every time she performs it so natural. From her first performance on Holland's got Talent you can see that she immediately connects with the audience. This young lady is a gift to the world!

I thought this girl was the most beautiful voice I have heard when I listened to her about two years ago. Now I have back and listened to all the “old” stuff and I am just as amazed if not even more. The reaction videos just help to understand a little more each time. It’s beyond the technique. It’s greatness. It’s excellence. Cant ever put your finger on it but it’s a combination of tons of ability.
I’m not sure if I have ever seen a girl so sweet that is so remarkably intelligent and focused.

Amira is also a Dutch singer, she lives now in SA her mother is from South Africa. My three favourite singers from the Netherlands are Floor, Glennis and Amira, they all three sing Holy night on there own special way but all beatifuul. Amira and Floor were born only 40 miles from eachother. With your Swedish heritage I recomend you to listen to the beatifull Swedish song "Gabriellas sang" by Amira

I totally agree. This is my favourite performance by Amira amongst many other great ones. This, notwithstanding she was then only twelve years of age against her present late sixteen's. I have used Microsoft Snipping Tool to capture the camera shot of her here at 8.21 which I have saved to My Pictures under her own folder. For me it encapsulates the effort she applies to find perfection in her performances. I loved Amira as a child performer, I loved her here and I love her as todays beautiful and extremely talented young woman. Amira you are truly blessed. Please God keep her safe as the world cannot afford to loose this wonderful girl.

She doesn't speak Italian (O Mio Babbino Caro, Nessun Dorma and this one) or Latin (Ave Maria) either. As a trained operatic baritone myself, I can tell you it's actually easier to do it phonetically. Her Dutch accent could have detracted from her early performances in English were it not for the fact that the sheer purity of the voice made it cease to matter. It took a bit of work to erase the nasal Australian twang from mine.
Coaching has given her the breath control to support the contralto register without losing the coloratura top notes (she always had the lung power as a distance runner, but lacked the control), her phrasing is smoother and the diction clearer. Thankfully they haven't burned her out as I feared might happen if she was pushed too hard too early.

Amira is an exceptional talent who first appeared on Holland's Got Talent in 2013 at the age of 9. Her brother was learning to play the violin and she didn't want to be upstaged, so see decided to teach herself how to sing. She had never received a voice lesson, but taught herself to sing opera by listening on CZcams. In case you haven't seen/heard her audition, here it is: czcams.com/video/ocnqRuSyoOQ/video.html Of course, she blew the judges and the audience away. It is said that Andre Rieu heard this performance and was very impressed. He contacted her and gave her some pointers moving on in the show, and how to protect her voice. Of course she won the competition by a landslide, and the rest is history. She is 16 now, and while I am not a big fan of opera, I do like some of the more famous arias. And for my taste, Amira's tone is the most pleasing I have ever heard. And she has very good technique to protect her maturing voice. She is also a delightful person. I'm glad you decided to react to her. Wishing you a safe and happy Holiday Season. 💕💕 P. S.: Here's Amira in the finals (still 9 years old) singing Nessun Dorma. czcams.com/video/r8KrpwqxE4g/video.html Her posture and overall technique improved immensely just in the short time she was on this show. I'm always amazed when a true prodigy finds their niche. And just look at her now. She has a worldwide following, and well deserved.

Dutch law prevented her from developing performance skills and technique. In S.Africa there is a sophisticated musical culture and they moved there when she was approx 12 yrs old. She is an apprentice in SA learning and honing her skills with expert tuition with the top orchestra in SA where she is being trained and performing very sophisticated pieces. A good performance to watch is her singing at age 12 with Patrizio at the Classics is Groot concert which I believe may be in Johannesburg, SA.

Spot on, Valarie! Thank you. I get the sense Amira has her "stuff" together. Her technical growth, now seven years since stunning the world as a nine year old is delightfully and impressively improved. I agree with your guess she'll be a lyrical soprano. Her "Sound of Music" medley reminded me of a young Julie Andrews (Miss Andrews was 19 when she made that motion picture). I think Amira actually has a more robust voice (for her age), although I don't know if Amira has that notorious four-octave range Ms. Andrews had. Amira's presentation is almost completely "The Voice" -- very similar in physical presentation to Andrea Bocelli; physically quiet, with no distracting animations. While this works well for lyrical singing, opera will demand she be a dramatic actor physically. Princess dresses won't be enough. I think all of us Amira fans pray she and her team (manager, mother Frieda, her coach, et.al.) protect her instrument as it is still a very fragile thing, and will be for a few more years. Again, spot on, and thanks. To confirm your suspicion of her settling into a lyrical soprano, review her "Sound of Music" trilogy (here: czcams.com/video/DmU9srYbvz0/video.html). I think the most technically impressive CZcams recording is the Flower Duet czcams.com/video/utWBGCVGLK4/video.html -- superlative, I think.

    • @josephlrosenberger
      @josephlrosenberger Pƙed 3 lety +3

@@VocalSplendorStudios My sense of things is "Team Amira" is pretty savvy. Her recordings on CZcams and social media are years old, except for promotional clips. These clips reflect the vocal maturity and trajectory she is on, for example her September 2020 streaming concert promo czcams.com/video/GM8JV7GjC8U/video.html and czcams.com/video/5eS1VsHEOyE/video.html (Age 16!!!!). This year's Christmas concert ($10 USD) is excellent (Promo: czcams.com/video/F_ojtDdxZ4I/video.html). Her voice is growing richer, as one would expect (yea!) and she's maintaining that remarkable resonance that suggests she will, indeed, be able to sing opera professionally. If she keeps this up -- this incremental improving, she'll be on par with Marni Nixon (one of the greatest operatic/lyric soprano's ever, of course [en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marni_Nixon & czcams.com/video/8gHWroo5F84/video.html). She certainly has Ms. Nixon's sparkling instrument and the soul that animates it.
Amira is not an stage actor -- yet, so (IMO) it's apples and oranges to compare Amira to, for example, Julie Andrews, who grew up in professional vaudeville. Miss Andrews at age 12 sang four-octave colouratura! czcams.com/video/iV2-YGGn0y4/video.html. (Noted, she said she could not do it after age 17).
All that to say, I hope every young aspiring soprano listens to your advice. I wish these "talent shows" would listen to you and, in fact, prohibit attempts to sing full-throated opera without professional permission, especially under age -- say, 14? I hope you get a boat load of new students from your kind and sage reviews.

This performance is from the 2016 "Africaans is Groot" ("Afrikaans (language) is great") concert given by Coleske Artists in the Moreleta Park auditorium in Pretoria (the Capital of South Africa), in November of that year - i.e. 5 months after her performance of "O Sole Mio" to which you have already reacted. Amira demonstrated at the earlier concert that she spoke Afrikaans fluently; she made such an impression that that concert, originally advertised as being a nine-concert series, had to be extended to eleven concerts. To meet Dutch school requirements, her parents had to take a tutor with them for the duration. If you watch carefully, you will see that she was wearing a bracelet on her wrist - which mysteriously disappears for about ten seconds - so this recording was evidently made using tracks from several of the 11 concerts. An artist does not get that amount of attention to detail unless her promoters value her highly - as her part in the subsequent "Classics is Groot" concerts in later years clearly showed. Coleske Artists were quick to offer her a fresh recording contract early in 2017, after her contract with SONY ran out. However, by 2019, the nature of the "Classics" concerts had changed, so Amira did not renew her recording contract with them in 2020, and of course Covid 19 has changed everything since; she is now exploring the medium of streaming concerts; the next one starts on December 23, 2020, and runs to January 3, 2021 - See Optog.co.za/Amira Christmas Concert

It's wonderful to see she does not select material that over-stresses her instrument. She reminds this former military guy of a pilot in a fighter jet that could, but will not hit the afterburner. One gets a hint of her instrument's power. She is either wisely holding back and/or disciplined to never exceed her limits. I encourage anyone who wants to get a sense of where she's at now to watch the concert.

Hi Valerie, there is one particular Amira performance that Illustrates the points you have raised in your reaction, & I feel it would be remiss of me to not bring it to your attention. I think Amira was 11 in the following performance & it is so evident that every note she sings is done without effort or strain. It is just so natural for her to sing with her God given voice ,that there is no need to try to create a more mature sound.
The performance is: Ave Maria Gomez (Canisius Church)
The violinist is her brother Fincent & the lady in red playing the recorder ( albeit very poorly) is her Mother.
I cannot fully comprehend how an 11 year old can display such passion together with an understanding of the lyrics in such a detailed manner.
This , in my opinion, should be your next Amira reaction, as I’m sure it will confirm , without any doubt, that her voice is as natural as the sun coming up in the east each day. Then perhaps, the Sound of Music medley, Dec. 2019 at the age of 15.
Here it is obvious that Amira has learned so much from her vocal coach, as her diction & presentation are superb. I’m not sure , but I think it is about 1 octave higher than the Julie Andrews version, and WOW, I can’t wait until her voice is fully matured given that this performance is simply awesome.
Waiting patiently (should I say impatiently) for your next Amira reaction.

Yes, I would have to agree. There is a purity of tone in that particular 'Ave Maria' (the William Gomez version) that is quite remarkable. Can't quite put my finger on why that may be, unless the comfort level of having family present and involved (and performing in a church near home) allowed her to somehow feel even more relaxed than normal. That's just a guess on my part but everything she sang that particular evening seemed somewhat special. Proof that she's one who doesn't need the big budget performances to enthrall. It's that voice ... not the trimmings. Cheers.

On that day every city and village has a type of huge garage sale where lots and lots of people put a tarp on the pavement in designated streets and sell their obsolete stuf. It is a day full of fun and games and eating and drinking. Also lots of children perform something (like buskers) to earn some money. Amira's younger brother wanted to perform with his violin and so Amira - 9 years old at the time - also wanted to do something. She chose to sing, looked on CZcams for a song .... and decided that O Mio Babbino Caro by Puchini would be a nice song. The rest is history.
