  • I can't say much technically about this style of music, but what I can say is WOW - just beautiful! The fact that Amira is only 12 is just an afterthought for me really; this is beautiful no matter what age you are!

Amira doesn’t understand “nervousness “. At age10 she stood before an audience of 30,000 and delivered a pitch perfect performance. The girl is simply amazing.

Great reaction! Let's answer in parts. The musical genre here is crossover, a kind of middle ground between classical and pop, with inspiring lyrics, orchestra and choir present. In the movie The Mission (religious mission), with Robert De Niro and Jeremy Irons, there are no vocals. Years later, a collaborator of Morricone's wrote the lyrics and crossover singer Sarah Brightman popularized it by singing it. Amira is a born super soprano and is classically trained. So for her, singing non-operatic genres is like cutting through butter with a hot knife. She has over a billion views on CZcams, with dozens of videos on various channels, 90 of which have over a million views each. Since the age of 9, she has donated half of everything she earns to her foundation to help children in need in South Africa.

This performance was in November 2016 - actually, I should say "performances", because there were 11 performances. Watch the bracelet on her right wrist - it vanishes and re-appears, showing that this video was made from multiple performances. The explanation is that she sang this song in July, at the "Classics is Groot" concert, and was so popular that Coleske Artists had to increase the number of performances of "Afrikaans is Groot" from nine to eleven when it was announced that Amira would appear; her parents had to bring a tutor from The Netherlands to ensure that she kept up with her schoolwork.

Sarah Brightman loved the music and thought it would made a good song. She wrote to Morricone asking permission to use it. He flatly refused, but she pestered him for months and he finally agreed. Chiara Ferrau composed the words and Sarah was the first to sing it. If you would like to hear something more recently from Amira, HGT All Stars invited her back 10 years after her original audition. The best video is the full segment which included the panel's comments and biographical sketch. She was 19 then and is 20 now, studying music at Pretoria University. She also recently sang in the Phantom of the Opera with Ruhan du Toit. See the Lexus Pop Classics version.

A great reaction again, I suscribed. Amira's last high note was insane...
By the way, Ennio Morricone's soundtracks are almost always either purely instrumental pieces, or vocalises without lyrics. The only exception I found was the Ballad of Sacco and Vanzetti, performed by Joan Baez, in 1971. Of course, if Amira had been able to sing fifty years ago, it would have been a duet... 😊

With 59 million views in the last few months 15 year old Emma Kok is one I suggest to listen to. Just like with Amira, Emma Kok was chosen by conductor Andre Rieu to perform with him and his orchestra. Emma Kok has a paralyzed stomache, she has to be on feeding tubes 22 hours a day. That she can sing like that is a miracle. Emma Kok is Dutch, cant speak French but sang a French song perfectly. She learned the French song phonetically. Andre Rieu asked Emma to go on worldtour with him. So at 15 she quit going to her regular school, started traveling the world with Andre Rieu's orchestra and has already performed in many countries. They do 100 concerts a year so Andre Rieu is the 6th best selling artist in the world in a lineup of Rolling Stones, Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber. Emma quit her regular school but is now doing worldschool traveling the world and performing in many countries. Emma Kok sings the song Voila with Andre Rieu and his orchestra. Just search for Emma Kok Voila Andre Rieu. Listen to the Dutch and English introduction of Emma Kok by Andre Rieu it is important. P.s 2. The song Voila came in second place at the Eurovision contest. The song Voila is not opera like Amira sang. Voila can be qualified as a chanson.

Amira's videos have over 1 billion views, of course she became a singing sensation after winning Holland's Got Talent in 2013 at age 9! Amira and Emma are definitely different people and singers. My response is in 2 separate areas,
      1. Musical styles & Repertoires
Amira has performed in many genres: opera, movie scores, musicals, sacred aria, gospel, crossover and more recently a piece from Phantom of the Opera. You mention that they have both performed with Andre Rieu and that Amira sang O Mio Babbino Caro (OMBC), which was also her initial audition in the 2013 Holland’s Got Talent show; the judges were so stunned and impressed they gave her the Golden Ticket. Amira loves to sing OMBC, it is 1 of her crowd favorites, much like Emma’s Voila. Amira has performed in at least 10 languages! What these performances all have in common is her unusual ability to evoke in her audience an emotional response. Amira’s voice is doing exactly what it’s meant to do, touching millions of hearts and souls.
Her voice, tone, range and control is amazing. Amira is the only one singing for heart, soul and the LORD. All other singers sing to sing technically as good as they can, which is a good thing of course. Amira however is ONE OF A KIND. Best singer ever in all categories. She is a gift from God. She can sing any song. Beautiful soprano. No one has the pure, natural, unique, heartfelt feeling, soul piercing and ringing bell voice sound Amira has.
Amira is a born super soprano and is classically trained. This means she is at the top of the musical technique. If you put a lighted candle in front of her mouth, she is able to project powerful notes without swaying the flame. A refined technique is reflected in a completely relaxed face, the big sound comes from within, the effort is below the neck. She's like a swan, gliding across the lake seemingly without any effort, but the fins below the surface of the water are working frantically. There's no comparing her to pop singers like Dimash or Dan Vasc or Emma. In comparison Emma is almost screaming or yelling to reach some notes, ie, lots of breath effort.
      2. Schedule & Health
I would imagine most of Emma’s fans would know of her life long struggle with Gastroparesis, a debilitating disease with mild to severe symptoms which can require hospitalization. I am quite sure Emma has been hospitalized a lot due to her illness. Some of the possible complications of gastroparesis can be life-threatening if they're very severe. Gastrointestinal function is particularly influenced by stress. Chronically delayed stomach emptying creates dramatic shifts in blood sugar levels and can cause dizziness, fatigue and nausea. These symptoms also progressively worsen during the day, except for the severity of nausea which persists throughout the day.
Certainly, it is an honor to be on a world tour with Andre Rieu, he certainly has the money to fly all over. It wouldn’t surprise me that he may have asked Amira to do further performances, but her parents were being extremely careful to not over stress her still developing voice. Also, Amira is quite dedicated to school, sports and just enjoying her young life with her friends. She graduated as Valedictorian of her South African high school and is now attending the University of Pretoria studying music & conducting.
Like Emma, Amira has traveled the world, received honors & awards, helped those in need, but perhaps her most special accomplishment is her Gelukskinders Foundation she started in South Africa (her mom’s home country) 10 years ago at age 10. Amira donates ½ of her earnings to this Gelukskinders! www.gelukskinders.org/en/purpose
i believe she has set up 21 school playgrounds so far.
Obviously, the biggest concern for Emma would be her on-going and long-term health situation. Given her incurable illness of gastroparesis, I am very concerned with her maintaining this most stressful and exhausting schedule Andre is subjecting her to. Personally, i think Emma should end the tour. Not only is her singing voice being used constantly, so to is her frail and weakened body! Where are her parents? Why does Andre have to push her so hard? So many star singers have been exploited and then cast aside when no longer useful for their “owners” or record producers. Amira ditched Sony after 3 years. She is happy with her life and being extremely careful with her voice.

@@cmlarose50 Andre Rieu never asked Amira Willighagen to go on tour with him. In fact it was arranged by a TV show that Amira got gifted a performance with Andre Rieu. Amira also got gifted a performance in Las Vegas after winning Hollands Got Talent. Emma Kok she herself is the driving force behind it all. Where are her parents you ask her mother is always with her behind the stage to hook her up two big feeding pumps and I say big because I have seen them in person. She was bullied at school because of those big pumps. Emma is happy to travel the world with Andre Rieu and has exceptional vocal control and had many singing lessons so she knows how to control her voice and how not damage it. By the way she only needs to sing 2 songs. I am Dutch so are Amira Willighagen and Emma Kok so I know more about them what you wrote here. I have been following Amira since she first was on Hollands Got Talent and Emma Kok on The Voice. Both are great singers and fact is Emma racked up 60 million views singing with Andre Rieu in one year. Amira 90 million views singing with Andre Rieu in 10 years. To be exact Amira has 1.5 billion views. Andre Rieu is a great guy giving both Emma and Amira a stage to shine. Andre Rieu also gave Mirusia Louwerse a stage and she now has a career of her own. Andre Rieu is not pushing Emma at all, she only has to sing 2 songs and has the vocal capabality and knowledge to do so and knows how to not damage her voice. She has had singing lessons from a vocal coach from when she was very young. If you really would have knowledge about singing you would hear Emma has a welltrained voice. She has been singing with Andre Rieu over a year now and will continue to do so. She has also been asked to sing on Dutch tv multiple times, to sing with Helene Fisher and she got other opportunities to sing in her own country as well. Andre Rieu he is a great guy. If you want me to fill you in on more information on how both Emma Kok and Amira Willighagen started before The Voice and Hollands Got Talent let me know. I have recordings of Amira where she couldnt sing at all. Emma Kok is so wellknown in her own country she already established a career for the future. Emma rests a lot as soon as the performance is over so she isnt pushed by Andre at all. They also dont do concerts in a row they come back home to The Netherlands in between shows to rest.

@@2012inca- Well i thought about coming back defending Amira’s talents, but i could see that we both have very strong feelings about Emma & Amira. I guess it’s a matter of taste for each person which singer touches their heart and souls, for me it is Amira hands down. There is no doubt Emma is extremely talented and does so affect her fans like Amira does for me. Emma is obviously a determined courageous performer dealing with her illness daily; if you didn’t know her situation, one would never realize how sick she is. Emma and Amira shall be in my prayers for their health and protection, continued success and many more years uplifting our bodies and souls. What is the secret of The Netherlands, a tiny country producing such amazing talent?! Let us all pray for our Dutch ladies, Amira and Emma -
The Lord bless you and keep you:
The Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you:
The Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace. (Numbers 6:24-26)

@@cmlarose50 Emma Kok and Amira Willighagen have something in common not many people see. Most people think if you have to perform for 12.500 people on the square in Maastricht The Netherlands one would be nervous. Amira is never nervous she looks forward to perform for audiences. Vocal coaches noticed Emma Kok is also never nervous while performing, she is very composed. You cant compare Emma and Amira as Amira sings opera, crossover, musical and Emma sings French chansons. It is like comparing apples to oranges. By the way Emma has a new song out with Andre Rieu called Dancing On The Stars. This song was written 20 years ago by a music producer he never released it. He waited 20 years for the right singer to come along and that singer was Emma. Search for Emma Kok Dancing On The Stars and listen to the intro by Andre Rieu. Emma is now going into the second year of performing with Andre Rieu. Both Amira and Emma were born to sing. My favorite are both nor Amira or Emma. My favorite child prodigy is Angelina Jordan. If you dont know her look up her version of I Put A Spell On You (The black and white colored version) She sang this song when she was 9. She won Norways Got Talent when she was 8 years old. After that she went viral and performed on The View in America and for 40.000 people in Asia. When she won Norways Got Talent at 8 years old she had music producers fly in private jets to Norway to see if they could sign a contract with 7 year old Angelina. Even Disney tried to sign a contract with her. Her family declined all music labels to protect Angelina. She was signed to a record label at 14 years old. The boss of the record label said to his staff do everything to sign her. So Angelinas family basically could write the contract and said that Angelina would first have to finish her school before becoming famous. I heard they even built her her own studio. She now has over 200 covers on CZcams and 13 originals. As said look up Angelina Jordan singing "I Put A Spell On You" when (The black and white colored version) She sang this song at 9 years old. She also auditoned for Americas Got Talent The Champions. Her audition has over 100 million views. One of the most watched auditions in the world. She sang Bohemian Rhapsody. The band Queen complimented Angelina on their socials and gave Angelina Jordan the right to record her own version of Bohemian Rhapsody. P.s. Also look up Emma Kok singing "Dancing On The Stars". In 7 days this song has already racked up 2 million views. Listen to the special intro by Andre Rieu and this time also the intro by Emma herself on the same square in Maastricht The Netherlands where Amira first sang with Andre Rieu. By the way did you know Andre Rieu is the 6th best selling artist in the world in a lineup of Taylor Swiftt, Rolling Stones etc. Andre Rieu is a great guy always giving young talents a chance. He made Amira, Emma and Mirusia Louwerse famous.

This beautiful aria with music by Ennio Morricone from the film “The Mission,” and lyrics added by Chiara Ferraù is about an imaginary world of peace and harmony. I presume the implication is that this is the fantasy of the missionary which provokes enormous irony. The “mission” of the missionary is to persuade the indigenous people to abandon their cultural traditions and superstitions in favor of the missionary’s culture and superstitions. Europeans generally regarded indigenous peoples to be “savages” in need of “salvation.” So the fantasy is presumably about a world of European culture and superstition, rather than of any sort of diversity or inclusion.
The first 2 minutes is another Ennio Morricone composition called "The River" with the voices of the Mzansi Youth Choir, then Amira comes on stage for Nella Fantasia.
