Roger, the MIDI Maniac
Thank you for this beautiful interview!
Just bought an MV8800 and must say it’s a solid , respectable machine. Roland made two brilliant machines back then, MC 909 and 8000/8800. Real effects, robust, thought out ones
I got the MV when it first dropped Mike was a huge help cause I was transitioning over from an MPC 3000. If it wasn't for mike I would have brought that joint right back to the store cause none of the reps knew shit about the MV they were all mpc heads one rep gave me Roland Canada's number and I made a call and got an invite to the main office and one of their reps walked me through a few things. I've used the 12/1200 mpc 60 60II 3000, ASR 10 but hands down that MV to this still can do a lot of stuff these newer joints still can't do. Like I said before it's one of the most slept-on machines ever released I actually canceled my order for the new Rossum 1200 and am picking up an 8800 this weekend.
How is the sound of the mv?
@@bangmateo7481 One of the best sounding samplers ive used in years I tried the MPC Live 2 & Maschine Plus didnt come close sound wise .
@@philtyrich1 Well you cant compare an MV to the new MPC and Maschine crap. I would love to know an MV compares to a MPC 3000 or 4k in sound. My fzvorite sounding sampler is my ASRX pro.
Thank you so much Mike, and Roger for making this happen 🙏. Great community knowledge and experience in the chat.
That was Dope, Already looking forward to Part's 2 & 3😀
Thanks and we're also looking forward to it.
@@theMIDImaniac So am I
Thanks again for this interesting gear talk. I actually just got a MV8800 in part because this conversation piqued my interest.
This already epic. And that Mike is talking about thousand stories with Roland was the best.
Thanks a lot! Yeah, great to have him in and to plan another show.

Mv’s vs Sp’s….that’s like choosing between multitrack tape and a shoebox recorder as a songwriting tool.. these days both are good to get a sound that’s unique for different reasons
That was really cool! I remember Mike from the tutorial videos. I also have 2 MV's, an MV8000 and an MV8800. Great machines I use regularly. I'd like to see more of this stuff :-)
@Rogier MIDI MANIAC, great video. 😂👍✊🖖🔊🎶
And thank you for the advice to keep the MV!! Without that, this would never happened.
Awesome!!! Great conversation & insight from Mike
Awesome overview for the MV8800 💯
I have a 8800. It's the most insane machine
MV8000/8800 are great. I think where Roland went wrong was it was difficult to use/steep learning curve. I remember going to Guitar Center and could barely figure out how to get it going, vs MPC which was easy if you had familiarity with other sequencers. It definetly was not something the average person could just go to GC and start banging. Ironically, the sequencer on the Fantom X at the time was easy to use. The MV paved the way with the VGA out and mouse.
Thank you for the video 🙏 may Yahweh bless you brothers🤴
Oh shit. You need 2 of these older machines . Always need a backup
I have the MV8000 & MV8800! Appreciate you guys doing this live!
Man! Another one with 2 machines! So awesome.
Thanks for your comment. Soon part 2 :D
Yes!!!! This is great.
Thanks a lot for being so active in the community!
Very nice discussion. I especially thought Mike’s commentary about the SP series samplers (around 33:20) was really informative. I wonder if that unique timing characteristic is still present in the new SP404 mkii (since it has updated the MIDI capabilities from the older models). Cool vid!
Probably has been updated, Roland seems to lose track of features unless it's the same design team
@@sammadden5540good point!
That part of the convo was fascinating
Great discussion Rogier. Good background info on the MV. Maybe next conversation you can discuss some of the common issues the MV tends to have.
its time for part 2 now ;^)
awesome device. jast wanna to see it mobile. and it so easy to do
This is what’s missing from the Akai force mouse control and hdmi out
I've been looking forward to this for a very long time!!!!
It was indeed so cool to have Mike in this show.
Soon the follow-up where we really dive into the MV.
Excellent episode .Can't wait for the next one .Sorry i couldn't be there lve since it went at around 2am Italian time .
Hey! Thanks a lot!
But wait...I'm in Spain and I start always at 21:30.
So next time you know it :D
@@theMIDImaniac So i must have been mistaken when i set the youtube appointment date because Italian time irs the same with Spain . My bad .I will not miss the next one .
@30:25 MV-30 is what you are talking about
Mike crossed over to Akai and worked for them
i have 2 mv8000's one is used for parts and i have a mv 8800
Damn, I missed a really good session. Also, I’m truly amazed at how much I’ve retained about our beloved MV’s. I hope to catch any future sessions live. 👍🏾✌🏾✊🏾 Btw, the “skeleton” buttons are known by Roland as “stencils”. I ordered two replacements years back, and kept the contact info. I don’t believe they’re available from them anymore. MPCstuff had some at last I checked. I’ve replaced one of two, but need to use the second one now. But waiting for a couple more buttons to break first.
Hi Netm8kr! Thanks a lot for your comment. Soon part two will be broadcasted. We will inform the community in time.
And thanks regarding the skeleton buttons. Those are the white ones inside the unit? The white skeleton combo or the outer buttons?
@@theMIDImaniac Yes, all the white buttons are part of a "stencil". You buy it as one piece. It lays directly against the underside of the metal. Requires total disassembly of anything attached to the face plate to get to them. Not the kinda task you do for one button. You wait until you have a few buttons gone first. (lol)
Someone needs to track down that company that engineered the sequencer
Mike is the MV guru...
can u get mike to do a video about the fantom x6 work flow and in depth detail of prodution with the fantom x6
I have 2 and I am looking for a 3rd right now
That's awesome!
I want to add second one back into my studio as well again
Great vid 👨
1:29:01 Time for a Jim Stout episode on the V-Synth.
Yes please!!!
Let me see if I can contact him through Mike.
You read my mind ✌🏽🙌🏽🙏🏽
MIDI maniac , love your channel , but hopefully next time you could focus more on using the mv
Thanks and that's what we're going to do. We're planning it for the beginnen of April. Stay tuned!
@The Midi Maniac I am looking for a MV-8800 production studio right now, I had one but I lost mine in a house fire few years ago.
Ow...that's terrible to read...losing your beloved goods due to fire is cruel.
I hope you find one soon.
Good luck and take care!
Best of luck with finding one!
I had a 8000 & 8800. Still have a 8000.
And keep that unit!! :D
can that e bay vga replacement work with the mv8000?
send a link and I will look.
thanks... great stuff
Thanks a lot! Soon the 2nd part :D
