He’s the epitome of “That friend who was just kinda there, and nobody noticed them until they were gone”

This is depressing, I knew a guy exactly like him. Just sat silently drinking wine. When he passed, his sister found notebooks full of sad poetry written by him.
Any of it good?

I mean I can Understand Marge being shocked and Mad and Homer and His friends for not knowing Larry better but she fail to see if Larry really wanted to open up about himself or if Homer and His friends are more in their comfort zone than Knowing others in the Bar as can't always Know everyone in are home town
@@comicbookreviewer4856Yeah. Maybe he showed signals that Homer and the others just didn’t notice or maybe he didn’t. Marge kind of has a point but you don’t make friends by sitting in the dimly lit corner saying nothing.

@@WWII_buff ahhhhh, look at all the lonely Larrys
Larry the barfly, along with every other Simpsons character, died somewhere in the late 90's/early aughts when the show turned into shit. The character that died in recent days was simply his zombified corpse, I am glad for him that he longer has to be tormented in that awful show. I only hope that the rest of his friends at Moe's, along with every other resident of Springfield and the fictional universe it is in, are about to enjoy a similar fate.

As sad as this scene was. I love that this is a Yellow Submarine reference. One of the best animated films ever.

Even Barney had it better than Larry. Even at his lowest points, at least Barney had his friends.

@@Cruddy129 I feel if thats wasn't a modern Simpsons. they would made it that Homer and co. would be genuinely upset, of his passing. That quiet guy, who the men liked, Larry be at the bar laughing at their antics. But ofc being Modern Simpsons it cannot tell a sad story without trying to joke.

isnt it funny that in the last 34 years, no one gave a damn about Larry but the moment his death is now canon suddenly EVERYONE wants to remember him like he's as iconic as... well Homer or bart
yeah i get it, he's been around for all this time but calling him beloved or iconic sounds like such a cop out, no one talks about him UNTIL his death, its a classic case of "you dont miss something until it is truly gone"
Larry had a friend with a hat, they all currently still don't give a shit about him.
@@sws212 They actually tried to but they couldn't fit making an entire personality and background for that guy, also do that funeral, and y'k.. already hard enough to give larry an "Personality" plus the timing was rough so it would have been an eh-
When I first read the information about this episode before it's aired about someone in Homer's life passes away I have no idea at the time which characters is going to die but I never thought to be a background character like Larry.
Man I thought Moe's life very sad but Larry he literally dies alone
As opposed to figuratively dying alone?
No he literally didn't, he died in the bar with people around him just not caring about him
@@connorhealy1562 Yeah, that's called literally dying alone. No one actually cared about you until you're gone, which is funny how that works.
Rest In Peace Larry
What would be really funny and meta would be if you still see him again in later episodes to show how he was so forgettable that even the animators forgot they killed him off.
They already did that joke with Dr Monroe. That they flip flop on whether or not he’s dead or alive.

I would love if they incorporated the other barfly Sam into thier shenanigans to show that they don't want him to go out the same way as Larry.
Poor Larry. I hope they do better with his fellow lonely barfly, Sam.
Damn, this was surprisingly heartbreaking!
Love the idea of them doing something with this 34 year old character who's always been there, but never got the spotlight. However, they should have included Sam in some way. Even as a throwaway joke, it just feels wrong when the OTHER 34 year old background character is not even mentioned.
Especially when they're almost always together in scenes!
To be fair when you've been using background characters for over 30 years, you're bound to forget a few along the way, as their only purpose is to fill in the spaces and nothing more. Although if they had an episode that's specifically made for them then yes, they could've included someone who they knew on a personal level if they wanted to.
He was always in the background. And when they finally decided to give him a big role, it was on the episode he passed. Pretty sad.
Nobody in the world should go through something like this 💔
0:30 this hits hard
Gotta be honest, modern Simpsons have been pushing some very good concepts lately
Yeah, despite in my opinon mediocre writing and jokes, modern Simpsons has a lot of good and experimental concepts, can’t really say the same for family guy
Dude I literally associated Eleanor rigby with Larry the barfly and then I found this
still do LOVED The Simpsons the show still is getting better
That's a huge lie lol
What’s your favorite?
Seasons 1-8 are gold. Season 9-13 are decent. Tree house of horrors usually still hold up because they were more so just entertaining than nonstop laughs
Sorry but no, no, nope 😔😔😔
Yeah, people are going to still hate on it for no reason. To have usually 2 episodes a season that stand out as being pretty good and interesting when you're 35 seasons in isn't easy. Appreciate the talent and people working currently on the show because they're in the industry. Simpsons fans don't have it nearly as bad in comparison to something like spongebob.
This is my new favorite song
why does this sound like Eleanor Rigby by The Beatles
Because it is a parody
The music video for Eleanor rigby is extremely similar to this as well

Rip Larry 💖
Despite appearing in dozens of episodes, people still remember him less than they do Joey Joe Joe Junior Shabadoo.
This guy did not deserve death. He spent years in the background harming no one, and was never given any character development.
I disliked Marge's attitude in this episode. She shamed Homer, Moe, Lenny and Carl for knowing nothing about Larry. Thing is, that's not their fault or their responsibility. We all know Larry is just a random background for Moe's tavern so his relevance for the show is unimportant, but for Marge's scolding of the 4 for not hanging with Larry, it was really Larry's choice to not get involved with them. He was a barfly. Just there to drink his sorrows. He had no desire to geting involved in Homer, Moe, Lenny, and Carl's shennanigans. Perfectly content just watching them talk and do things from his bar stool. The guys may not have not noticed Larry but that was fine with him. He still considered them his friends even if they knew nothing about him.
Not the case. Homer interacts with everuone in the Tavern except Larry and Sam
You Villain.
When you know something's up then you should act on it. Just because someone's drinking silently you ignore the guy. One major sign to tap him on the back or just say hello once in a while might help. This was a sad episode and a scary one at that.
I feel that when Marge shamed the group, she also shamed us as well. I mean, we never even cared about that character that was since the beggining, Im sure 90% of us we didnt know his name.
Thats why It felt that their words were heavier, be because is actually a case we, as viewers can relate to.
In the first season when no one other than the simpsons was sure to become a recurring character Homer mentioned Larry to Marge and told her about something he said. This is before even Lenny, Carl and Barney had their names mentioned I believe. In-univers he and Sam were supposed to be as much part of the boys as the others or rather they were all barflies and some of them got their character expanded. "Out-universe" the writers decided to not use them and when the staff changed they went with the status quo
Great version of Elanor RIgby from Yellow Submarine
So they really did a good and original episode again? In 2024? Wow.

Rest easy Larry, I did remember you.

Me too, man. The only person who notices me is my landlord.

Well they got rid of the character, but i think the lesson is that loneliness is just part of life and we have to handle it by found other things in life more than friends or family, something to keep going, even of we are born alone this wont be forever.
The Eleanor Rigby parody's kinda cutesy. They should've used an existing song with a similarly melancholy tone, like "Fourth of July" by Sufjan Stevens or Ryan Adams's cover of "Wonderwall."
Great episode
I can relate to Larry here, I don’t go to bars a lot, but when I do, I hope someone can at least try to speak to me(yeah I’m a bit shy if you ever saw me except when I say hello, but that’s it)

I've had a Larry in my life before. A woman named Tracy, worked for the local supermarket my whole life. She really never spoke to anyone she worked with, apparently. She passed when I was 17, and I remembered who she was, but nothing about her. Nobody did. She was a life-long bachelorette, and completely childless. I felt badly for her.
Jeez that's sad. Why was she so invisible?

@@nolanlemmon8180 Well I hope you reached out to her, at least. But thanks, you gave me some motivation to change.

It's up to each of us to include ourselves. You can't expect everyone to come to you.
It kinda goes both ways. It's not your job to include others. But it's a nice gesture to try here and there, some aren't very good at making friends.
There's a certain point people give up trying to include themselves in anything, I don't think some people willingly chose to isolate themselves but their efforts to reach out for connection continue to go in vain to the point they eventually lose any will or confidence to try anymore
@@Ducky_LuckyIKR? You can build your side of the bridge and just be left waiting. 😢
I fear this may be me in the future. I frequent a bar not far from my apartment, and I always order a coke. I dont drink alcohol. Id like to make friends, but I don't really know how to talk to people there. It always seems like they're in groups or family or something, no fellow lone strangers I can approach to talk to.
I'm not good at advice so I can just say lots of strength to you, dude.
Hope you end up finding someone to talk to.
Why The Simpsons made me sad for a background character!?
The Simpsons - Giving us laughs and way too many things to think about in life.
I really really like what The Simpsons have become in the last 3 seasons. Way to pick themselves up again. Sure, it’s not as funny as it used to be and it probably never will again but it tries so many new different things that I hardly care. I'd rather have episodes like that than episodes trying to be funny and failing miserably like… Most episodes from seasons 20-32 (except A Totally Fun Thing That Bart Will Never Do Again, Barthood and Halloween of Horror, those were pretty great).
Still a more memorable character than Colin
God called Larry home.
