It's sad that he never have spoken one word or any quotes from the whole show but I remember his friend Sam does talk twice in the fx simpsons promo commercial clip
After his death, i searched "Larry the Barfly Simpsons" on youtube, and this was literally the only video about Larry the Barfly that showed up. Most of the other results were about Larry Burns.
Yeah, I saw “Simpsons kills off beloved character,” and I was immediately like, who the hell is Larry? I have never seen this character before. A quick google search shows me he only had two spoken lines in the entire series, and here they are.
He is the definition of a background character well him and sam but hey at least he made both of them memorable in some way because of his death people will always remember him and hope that the same thing doesn't happen to sam
how tf is he iconic this is his best moments and he is barely in the video i think nostalgic feeling just hit people too hard sometimes tot he point it clouds their judgement
So now they can still use Larry, and claim that it was the second Larry, so all the pretend butthurt's who get a boner from being apologized to, can go screw.
Even though Larry pretty much had no background or depth to him, he was a character that I was glad to see remained on the show after all these years. RIP Larry you deserved better.
When youre a regular at a local pub... and the barflies pass away... you notice it. I miss you Micky and your sarcastic flirty behaviour towards us women. You were always ready to hand treats to all our dogs too. 🙏
That joke where he points at the camera but he's actually talking to Barney is similar to the ending of "Who Shot Mister Burns Part 1" when Dr Hibbert looks into the camera and goes "....Can You?" and Wiggum answers him.
If I remember correctly, the Hibbert bit was a jab at the short-lived show The Cosby Mysteries, which was on around that same time. Of course, Dr. Hibbert IS a jab at Cosby, anyway.
Knowing how bad The Simpsons has gotten since going HD, I bet the only reason they killed Larry off was because they were THAT desperate for an episode idea
We are not Homer. We are barely Kirk or Gil. No. We are Larry and Sam. No ones. Nameless faces that people instantly forget, in a bar, alone, waiting to die.
Why does it have to be Larry. I loved this character so much. I made a Tier List a while ago, where I ranked the characters about their chance to get killed and I put Larry on the second lowest Tier together with characters like Seymour Skinner... it hadn't aged well R.I.P. Larry Dalrymple
There's another clip I wanted to include, where Apu imagines Larry losing his money to the Kwik-E-Mart's cigarette machine; but the version that had it got blocked when I uploaded it. It's at 19:17 of Simpson Tide.
RIP Larry. I grew up watching Cheers with my Dad so every time I saw you or Sam in the background of Moe's I admired all of the cool stories you guys were sharing with each other and imagined you guys reminiscing about good ole times you have shared together. It might be hard to believe but you barflies were some of my favorite characters. Thank you for the memories!
What the heck? They really killed him? Must have been recent. Such a sad caricature of a hopeless regular that got ignored by the writing staff IRL. This cuts deep. We're all Larry in a way. This makes me slightly depressed enough to use it as an excuse to go buy a really cheap highly alcoholic substance, which I actually already did 30 mins ago. Here's to Barry! I love you Gary! I'm gonna be sick.
This is a strange character to kill off because unlike Maude Flanders or Krusty's father, he didn't do anything except hang out in the background but he also kind of stood out in a way so that you would notice that he's missing. I know a lot of people who watched this show are going to miss him on some level but nobody is going to miss him more then Sam because those two always sat together.
Dude did I get flashbacks because of those clips. The old episodes were the best and it’s so sad that they changed a already perfect series. They way they portrayed alcoholism (specifically in those episodes) is so shocking but it’s the only way
hard to believe, Larry has been part of the show for 34 years since the very first episode, and he's hardly ever said a word to anybody, and now he's gone, at least he had Sam who was just like him
This is unrelated, but Moe in early seasons was genuinely charismatic and down to earth. While almost all the Simpsons cast eventually got flandarized one way or another, I always liked how early Moe served as Homer’s confidant.
What surprises me is when the video was uploaded, considering he wasn't talked about as much if at all until recently. Also that part where Barney had yellow hair threw me off guard. I'm guessing that was his original hair color before they went with brown.
@bentaylor1617 Bro it is just a joke about the fact that there is two of him in the scene. It really is not something you need to take so seriously. Come on now man.
@@snnnaaaaaakeeeee4470 ok my bad I really didn't take that into account I assume you were talking about the guy in the green hat who he always sits next to
There's two Larrys at 1:34. Definitely how they're going to justify tacitly bring back Larry in future episodes. The seed was planted three decades ago.
I had this idea that I wish I wrote down and sent in to the producers. It would be a day in the life of Larry and Sam, voiced by two huge guest stars, and we see them through a sequence of events wind up saving Springfield. No one would ever know or believe them. The show would start with them at the bar and end with them at the bar.
The writers deserve some props for Larry's death episode. It's a real eye opener how there are some people in life that you just never pay attention to until it's too late.
I just don't understand. I've watched the show my entire life and never once did they do an episode focused only on the barfly's Sam and Larry. To kill off the characters without giving both of them chance to really show them as people. Not just background characters saying one sentence ever.
hard to believe that both Larry and Sam have been seen at Moe's Tavern since the very first episode, because it's a bar where everybody knows their name just like Cheers, though they never talked much, and now Larry is gone
In loving memory of "Larry the barfly" 1989-2024
