"In my opinion" mezzo sopranos have always been underestimated because sopranos rich more impressive higher notes, yet like in this case Frida's voice is absolutely beautiful and powerful too. Part of Abba's magic was those two gorgeous different voices combined.

I have much disdain for the cocky, self-important, shamelessly pretentious, so-called "rock purists" who criticize ABBA. Those critics have no self-awareness. Much of the three chord, angst filled punk rock of the 70's was complete garbage compared to the sophisticated chord progressions, melodies and production value of everything ABBA produced. Even today's poor excuse for music doesn't come close. The music of ABBA is and always has been a wonderful breath of fresh air and a beautiful ray of sunshine in a dark, angst filled world. ABBA Forever!!

Any ABBA documentary that does not highlight the magnificent Frida leaves me empty. I adore Agnetha. I never was one of those people who found a competition between the two singers. I understand they both wanted to sing leads, that is only natural. But they clearly love each other. But Frida is second to no one. Frida is magnificent both is talent and looks. A classic beauty. Agnetha is very sensual, no doubt. Both voices combined is what nails ABBA for me. The remarkable songs, arrangements, interaction between Frida and Agnetha and instrumentation makes them unique and powerful. I will always love this group. Long live ABBA

@Generation X Frida was full of fun all the time. She drew you into her as a person you could actually hang out with and laugh with. She is adorable, funny, beautiful, kind, generous, and aware of what is going on, working to save the planet and animals. I am sure Agnetha is kind, generous, sweet, loving and aware too. They are both wonderful. I love them! Thanks for writing. Stay safe

Both girls had successful solo careers with multiple #1 hits in the Swedish charts before the creation of ABBA. In a way ABBA was a Swedish super-group as Björn and Benny had had succesful careers in two of Sweden’s most popular groups, Benny in the Hep Stars and Björn in the Hootenanny Singers. Anyway, I hate the discussion of which girl was the better singer. They are both brilliant, but different. Agnetha is a soprano with a razor sharp precision and clarity, Frida is a mezzo with a rich warm voice. They’re both excellent, but when they sing together you add another dimension. Their combined voice is greater than the sum of their individual ones, and their individual ones are amazing to begin with...

Don't forget to take into account that all these touching, fantastic lyrics were written and sung by non-native speakers of the English language. This on top of the impeccable melodies and harmonies. They have always been great, but weren't fully understood by many during their active time. Nowadays they are shown the respect they deserved then. Time has already told that these weren't simple songs to be forgotten a couple of weeks later, but that they will remain forever as a significant part of the musical history of mankind.

Which is why ABBA is my favourite group hands down. They brought joy to the people at the time when there was gloominess and cold war etc. In a way, they acted as therapeutics to the mind and soul. Music "not standing the test of time" was just something music "journalists" invented in order to discredit something that no longer fitted a trend they were trying to hype. Truly great music is eternal which is why ABBA, Buddy Holly, Elvis, Bee Gees, Kate Bush among many others will forever sound wonderful. If someone tells you that they think a certain music has dated, press them as to exactly what they mean by that because usually it will be a cut and paste argument not derived from their own feeling.

ABBA is a god-group with sounds that revolutionized the world of music and certainly my world. My first crush was Agnetha! LOL As a missionary kid in Indonesia, I used to listen to Aussie radio and heard the ABBA songs playing. I’d buy every Album on the Indonesian black market (sorry!) and couldn’t wait till the next one came out. I literally wore my cassette tapes out and would have to buy them all over again! Later, there was Queen, Foreigner, Journey, etc. but I never lost my love for ABBA music and to this day those songs take me back to a wonderful time when I was dealing with many of the emotions they sang about - being a love crazed nut, sneaking out at night to meet my first girlfriend ever, climbing a Papaya tree near her parent's walled property, jumping from the papaya tree to the wall, making the sound of a tokay (gecko) to let her know I was there, jumping down from the wall to meet her behind the tall hedges in the moonlight, holding her hand for the first time, kissing her for the first time. It was a near carbon copy of Sitting in the palm tree! Songs like She's My Kind of Girl, Kisses of Fire, Honey, Honey, SOS, Gonna Sing You My Love Song, Lovers, Does Your Mother Know and lyrics like my girlfriend wanting her "man after midnight" come to mind as songs that captured the passion of young love. Then, when I went through losing her when their family had to leave the mission field, it felt like my soul had been torn from my body. What pain we feel when we're young! What strong emotions! Songs like Dance, While the Music Still Goes On, My Love, My Life , Disillusion and Our Last Summer made me cry in secret! Then, she'd send letters about what was going on in her life, pictures, even one of her in a bikini! I dreamed of seeing her again, getting married and living the American dream or perhaps doing missions ourselves. In my mind, she was The One. The commitment just didn't seem to be the same for her as it was for me. She started seeing and dated others and by this time she thought of me as more as a friend than a lover. It felt like every line of her talking about her dates was another dagger in my heart. I'm not going to lie, it hurt. It hurt alot. The song The Winner Takes It All was perfect for how I felt, just perfect. Finally, I couId take it no longer and stopped writing. It was just too painful. As distance cooled my heart, I then began dating others too, but mostly as friends, not lovers. it just was never the same with other young women. I began dating a young lady in my church and things kind of got more serious, but somehow I knew I had to find a love like I'd had before. The girl I was dating was more like a freind than a lover - a friend wiht the benefits of holding hands and kissing to be sure, but we both seemed to know deep down that we were saving ourselves for others. College was right around the bend. My old flame lived in Florida at the time and I lived in Alabama. It never occured to me to go down and see her. To me it was over long ago. In high school, my health began to go downhill and I found out I was in kidney failure and needed a transplant. Lots of people I'd known and loved offered a kidney to me, including my then girlfriend! It was an emotional time. My girlfriend stayed by my side the whole way. My mom's kidney mathced the best and it was decided she'd would donate a kidney. Then, out of the blue, my old flame and her parents showed up at my home unanounced! It was a shock! I was not well with the kidney failure and about to have a kidney transplant. I was embarassed for her to see me like that, but she acted like our relationship had never ended. She'd found out that I was sick and got her parents to bring her up to my home in Alabama so she could take care of me! In her mind, once life was settled down more and she was older, we were going to get back together somehows and it would be like old times. She wanted to donate a kidney to me too. It truly was a beautiful gesture, but I felt I had to remain loyal to my girlfriend at tha time. So, one night, I sat with her on the couch into the wee hours of the morning, knowing I had to tel her goodbye. It was gut wrenching. As we talked I felt so torn. Here was the woman I'd dreamed about for years and yet, here I was with her again and it felt like I was with a stranger - a beautiful strange. I also really cared for my girlfriend and couldn't fathom the thought of just dropping her after all we'd been through together. I was torn. As we talked, reminisced and laughed about the days I'd made the sound of a gecko to call her out, I don't know what happened, but we ended up passionately kissing on the couch! Still, I couldn't just drop my loyal girlfiend and so, through salty tears, I pulled back and told her that we just weren't meant to be. I just didn't think I could handle another emotional round with her. I loved her too much and felt like it would be just another emotional drain when she returned to Florida and her own high school, I don't think I could have taken it. At the end of my high school year, my girlfriend and I parted ways amicably, agreeing that since we were going off to different colleges, we should be free to date others. So, in college, I met an amazing young lady at our welcome to college dance. She was with another guy and I thought, "Dang! How in the world did he manage to get a date with that knockout!" I figured she was off limits, but a few days later, as I went into the library to study, she just happened to be going into the library too. I held the door for her and she smiled up at me with those gorgous Angel Eyes! I was a gonner. I invited her to study with me and we studied eachother for hours, getting to know one another, etc. It was amazing to me that a girl that pretty and smart would even talk to me, let alone want to be with me as her boyfriend. She kept telling me how board she was going to be Friday night at her dorm all alone. I was so dumb! I didn't realize she was fishing for a date - with ME! I was elated and that's how it all started - a date Friday night and we fell deeper in love with each week, month, year. It was every bit as passionate as my first relationship, maybe more. We did everything together - tutoring inner city kids, dances, dates, everything. This time I knew she was the one. But my old flame wasn't giving up so easily. After a year at a university in Florida, believe it or not, my old flame shows up to break up yet another relationship of mine! She'd been plotting all along to eventually get me to change my mind and somehow she found out I'd broken off my relationship with my girlfeiend at the start of that year. So here she is, now attending college with me and determined to break up my relationship with my college girlfriend. Once again, I told her I was flattered and would always treasure the memories I'd had wiht her, but that I wasn't interested. I was in love already and in no way was I about to get involved in a love triangle! So she eventually gave up and moved on and I married my college sweetheart. My old flame is also happily married now and I'm so glad for her. The guy she married is a friend and great guy. Well, that's my story. The music is now and will always be a huge part of my soul. I’m a tough guy who rarely ever shows big emotions, but I remember “The Winner Takes It All” made me cry. Very few songs in history moved me like those songs. As I grew older, songs I knew suddenly touched me anew. With four wonderful kids and watching them grow up and leave home, “Slipping Through My Fingers” suddenly became reality for my wife and me! I played ABBA so much that my kids are fans.
