The dismantling of David Mitchell's sanity by Bob is the best side plot in British tv history
SIDE plot? It's the main reason I watch British panel shows!! It's one of the funniest things I've ever seen! I swear if I ever meet Bob Mortimer, I'll find a way to be his guest on WILTY for the "this is my..." segment so we can drive David crazy! It is one of my favorite things in life!
The best side plot in British tv history is Mr. Beans car driving/parking but Bob might be 2nd.
This and the carrot in the box saga are the funniest shit on panel shows đ€Ł

After the first couple episodes I saw with Bob when I realized he was on Leeâs team each time, I wondered if they decided to keep it that way because of the hilarity that ensues when heâs pitted against David. I really, REALLY hope that thatâs true too because it definitely makes it funnier đ any other recurring guests typically alternate teams even if only one or two times⊠but nope, Bob is against David eeeeevery time, and itâs genuinely funnier and funnier each time. I love how after a while David starts explaining to any new team members how they need to be careful with Bobâs stories and he cautions them and everything, to the point that the new guests get equally ramped up with David đ
"I won his appendix in a bet" is the most Bob Mortimer sentence ever, which is saying something after what Bob has said before
The unsung heroes are the ones who wrote Bob's lies like that one and the Chris Rea egg in the bath. They sound so on-brand for Bob.

@@mikiivancsics3852 A few of his stories have been lies. They're typically way more straightforward an believable than his true stories, but he's been caught out when he's tried to make up some detail when the opposing team has an expert on that subject.

Well, USA feels pretty relaxed in other countries backyard. That is probably why. If you enter without invitation, you can say you are a local there. Most of us feel like you are some guy sleeping in our flat but is too strong to kick him out. And he is the police at the same time. And worst thing off all is that it's the USA police.

One of the things I love about Bob is his generosity. When Lee or David makes a quip he loves it and laughs so naturally. It's a lovely characteristic.

Everytime I watch compilations of Bob's tales on WILTY the more I am convinced he's actually a Discworld character who got displaced to Earth. đ
The first clip shows a new kind of Mortimer storytelling: throw us off with a lot of unbelievable but superfluous details and then offer up an ending just anti-climactic enough to be perfectly plausible. This should drive David ever more crazy. (Also, BTW, David was the only one who thought to make a pun out of "still" in Still Barry. Not even Lee thought of that.)

I've gotta say, I've watched Bob Mortimer's WILTY clips enough times to memorize most of them...
I appreciate his ability to tell stories and entertain the people around him more now than before somehow. He's such a gem.
One of my favorite things about how he tells his stories is that, particularly when heâs telling the truth, he always says/does these little things that make it seem like heâs having a hard time pulling off the lie. Whether itâs because of David having way too good a question and heâll kind of stumble over the answer, or heâll pick the card back up halfway into the questioning to âdouble checkâ what heâs supposed to be talking about, shit like that. With almost anyone else, it would be a genuine response because it is in fact a lie, but NOPE. Bob does it on purpose whether itâs true or not, and he does it SO. DAMN. WELL!! Heâs a freaking genius

Many years ago I was a manager in a tech store in Kent and Jim Moir [Vic Reeves] and Bob came into the shop. Both were in bouyant mood and Bob was kettle buying. He handed over his credit card. My administrator asked him the name on the card [there was a bit of a security issue going round] and he replied in a quiet but serious tone, "Mr Robert Mortimer." Everybody burst out laughing. He didn't find it funny at all [and why should he?], but he looked around and Jim was giggling and people were leaning against counters and shelves or doubled over. Eventually he giggled too. Then he looked back at the administrator, and she had kept her straight face until his wide grin sent her over the top too. NIce memory.
I watch these episodeson a regular basis because Bob makes me laugh every time I watch him, his delivery is so very funny.
