UK Coronavirus Lockdown!

  • April 1st, 2020, life in the UK is very different to what it was a month ago before the ongoing Covid-19 Coronavirus outbreak. There are restrictions on travel with the advice to travel only if you are a key worker or if it is essential. Stores, pubs, cinemas, restaurants, electrical stores and pretty much any place where people gather are all out of bounds. Public transport has been scaled back and the situation is expected to get worse.
This video shows how it looks out there in the streets at the moment.
    Stay safe!

I can remember there were only about 30 cases found in UK a month ago.. Nobody could have imagined the current state at that time.

Same here in Italy, things went from "it's just a flu" to critical in a week or so... especially here in Bergamo. We live in strange times...

I went for a walk around my town, the high street is always congested but today there wasn't a single car on it.
Also in my local Morrisons, my friend said there were two people physically fighting to get the last pack of 4 toilet rolls. That is the same with the hand soap.

I've been staying indoors mostly now for about 3 weeks as I've got pre-existing health issues. Finally had to get out from my 4 walls for a bit of mental relief yesterday (Tuesday) and decided to go out for a 30-60 minute drive. Left around 5pm which would normally mean sitting in endless traffic on any of the roads here. Instead it was so empty that I ended up putting some 40 odd miles on the car by the time I got back. The only time I've seen the roads quieter was 2am on Christmas morning!

The economic damage caused by this is a self inflicted wound with the potential to be fatal if the 'lockdown' is allowed to continue on. COVID-19 isn't something anyone wants to catch but then again, nobody wants to catch Tuberculosis (millions more deaths than COVId-19). And we haven't locked down against that. Life is for living, not merely existing. And as this superb video shows, what we have here ain't living. Sooner we rid ourselves of the fear and the paranoia, the better. The original health advice still applies: don't get too close to strangers, and don't stay in the company of another individual for more than a few minutes unless they're in your family. Though I love Morthren's videos for the way they chronicle the sadly desolate on the brink of vanishing forever, let's not have today's self-imposed desolation taking entire communities over that same brink. It's time for Society to ghrow up. Not keep hiding away. Posted May 20, 2020.

A great video as always and just shows how the country has changed so much in a short space of time. Sadly too many plebs are still going out as if nothing is wrong and meeting up with mates and stuff. It' like they don't care or don't have the brain cells to realize how dangerous this thing can be not only for them but anyone they come in to contact with even indirectly. It's only been a short time since the lockdown and people are already trying to go back to the old ways of driving around and stuff yet this thing hasn't even started wiping out the thousands it's likely to do in the coming weeks. Stay safe stay home.

Thanks for echoing the views from across this nation. I hope we can resume where we left off, but sadly I think a lot more biz will have hit the wall by then, and those of us who pay our taxes will be asked to dig deeply for even more to help get our country out of a hole.

What you showed, pretty much describes it over here in the States. I'm now noticing food being stocked more and paper products becoming easier to get.
Same for all soaps and sanitizer.
Still no idea, when all this ends.
I have a feeling the lockdown will go on for at least another no th or so. But, people need to go back to work. All types of business nerd to open. Many types of businesses, are closing for good. What a mess.

  • @liftrailphotographyinnz3992

Nice video. New Zealand is currently in lockdown too, you also have the queue outside the supermarkets and keep 2m apart, certain supermarkets here have put restrictions on certain items to ensure everyone gets their fair share. Have supermarkets in the UK out restrictions on items or done something similar? Stay safe!

    • @PabloGarcia-hc8xq

Elderly population, lockdowns only delay the inevitable, high nosocomial infection, inaccurate reporting of Covid deaths, other countries being nowhere near as thorough with their figures. Turns out Sweden appears to have got it right. In my opinion we must never ever lockdown a country again.

  • @liftrailphotographyinnz3992

    • @morthren
      @morthren  Před 4 lety +1

That's good to hear. They are easing lockdown in the UK with a phased opening of different types of businesses. I think it may be a bit too soon though as the infection and death rate is still quite high.

@@morthren I think the NZ Government made the right decision to go early and declare a lockdown when we only had around 100 cases, NZ being put into lockdown early helped stopped the situation from getting out of control over here.
