  • I take a look around Pripyat in Ukraine, the former soviet city abandoned following the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant accident on the 26th April 1986. The town began evacuating the following day and has been uninhabited ever since.

    Great footage. Shame you didn't have a Dosimeter. it would have been interesting to see what the background radiation is now.

    I hated the bits where you looked down from the staircase with no handrail or barrier, made me feel very dizzy

      It has been a place I've been interested in for a long time and finally got an opportunity to visit. The staircase was a bit crazy with no handrails.

    Blimey, morthren speaks! Must be affects of the radiation. Skin not turning green, is it? No uncontrollable urges to smash things?
    A tad eerie, those abandoned vehicles out in the woods. I remember the railway carriages from a previous visit.
    Leave it to you to find your way to the lift control room. No riding the tops of the cars today, I'm afraid.
    Were it only the interiors shown, I'd have thought you were in one of Brooklyn's NYCHA houses here in New York. Be well, morthren; look forward to your next posting.

      He does speak occasionally :)
      Visiting places and leaving them untouched is how I like to play it. I don't understand people wanting to smash shit up all the time, particularly such a historic place like this.
      Thanks. I'm hoping to make some more interesting videos soon.

      @@morthren When dealing with places like this I try to follow the old Hiker's Creed: Carry out everything you carried in; carry out nothing you didn't carry in. Leave nothing but footprints; take nothing but memories (and in this modern age, photographs.) And I agree one-hundred-percent regarding some people's need to destroy anything that remains intact in such environs.
      Here in the United States, much of our Southwest contains numerous historic sites that were abandoned decades ago--usually connected to the mining/railroad industries. Many of these sites are now under the jurisdiction of the Bureau of Land Management, and thanks to the desert-like climate conditions these sites hold up well over time. Same cannot be said, however, when it comes to interactions with some of the two-legged visitors. Despite the fact that if caught vandalizing any such site you will feel the full weight of the central government crashing down upon you in federal court, there is still much damage (and sometimes theft) done to these wonderful reminders of our nation's collective heritage. Very disheartening.
      Keep up the excellent presentations, they are always welcomed.

      @morthren  Před 3 lety

      Thanks. They all seem quite sturdy but on the official tours entering the buildings isn't allowed because of that. 35 years of no maintenance takes it toll.

    Many thanks for you video's & the caption's approach as I find 'Voice' & or non electronically well chosen music can distract from the power of the Image/s presented.
    I noted rather disturbingly in this 'Chernobyl' area that even after such a long time those paper ledger/books were not even ruffled? This implies to my thick noggin that the Air & Moisture/Cold would of surely ruined these by the time of Filming? The air must dry things extremely Fast compared with 'Normal' as there seemed to be deterioration in keeping with a Desert like area not one with Pine Trees as a living natural Flora?
    Do you know if the area this is in has the Very cold Weather, even the Black Sea area of Ukraine must be surely affected from time to time by Eastern Winters?
    Thanks Again Morthren keep up the great output.
