- Right after a couple inches of rain in the summer gar become very active in search for food and often stay up on top in the newly flooded water. Catching them with topwater lures is a challenge but it is tons of fun! I personally think this is a lot funner than bowfishing and the fish get to live! I live in the Netherlands and we mostly fish here for northern pike and carp but damn man what do these fish look cool. Its also funny to see the different styles of gisting between countries. Anyways , your videos are great :)
Gar are almost like an unnofficial symbol of Texas fishing, they're everywhere down here ;) Honestly would love to travel to Europe one day to catch monster Pike though

My grandfather caught the big one as the one like your first hit. I've never seen it drag his line to other side so quick which I was like "Seem not possible a bass" which it something else. Of course it's a 8 pounders gar.

The Dream Catcher your talking about 2 different gar species. alligator gar and then the needle nose gar. alligator gar get the largest.
you don't normally see them that big cause idiots normally kill them before they can get that big for no reason at all.

Wisconsin BassFishing it's against the law here to release them as well as bowfins they're considered invasive if u catch one you're supposed to call wildlife management they will come get it if unwanted.... also here all grass carp must be released back to the water immediately I don't follow that I cut them up for Cut bait for catfish at night carp eat up all the good cover for bass and crappie

i was wondering the same thing, la centerra is pressured but the bass in there are decent for a pond and cinco ranch lake seems promising. mary jo peckham park is decent for catfish.

How is it possible to catch anything in these strange drainage ditches or tiny waterways? Here in Canada every water is big water. It is very hard to catch anything! I am speaking as a very experienced fisher woman!
The fish are more clustered so they are more oftenly coming across bait, and in texas almost any waterway has fish whether it be a bass or a suckermouth catfish
