Awesome review. You said everything I need to know and be able to level my expectations.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I enjoyed the review and your honesty.
Bamda Seven Thanks for saying so, I appreciate it!
Hi Chris, you came off as sincere, down to earth, informative, summarised and realistically review. The part I like most is sincere feeling. keep it up and thank you.
Thanks very much for saying so! Appreciate the feedback
Thanks for the review
Thanks for a no-nonsense review - much appreciated.
Arthur Hjorth thanks for saying so!
This review was super helpful to me. Thanks for creating it.
Thanks for the feedback Fran!
Hi, nice review. I have had mine now for about 6 months and (pretty much) love it. Quick question: Can you charge it via a wall charger? How about via a power bank?
The "roger that" bit legit made me laugh, good review
Haha thanks a lot
Excellent format for this video
Thanks Harry!
Hello, and great review. If you don't mind my asking, how did you get your Gear Fit 2 to control your Google Play music streamer?
ThankYou!! (You have no idea how many raving tech nerd reviews of this thing I had to sort through before I found your real review)
Edit: I've read hear and there through the comments of the reviews that the GPS on this thing is highly inaccurate. Thanks for the
confirmation!
It's Garmin, Suunto and Polar for the real athletes.
Haha, I'm still a tech nerd, just tend to rave a little less than some others! Cheers for the comments!
I just picked up the gear fit 2 and my biggest complaint is the Heart Rate monitor. you need to pause to check your heart rate. Your heart rate is not used as a factor in calculating calories burned which makes absolutely no sense why Samsung would do this
oh.. really?!
Great video, exactly what I needed to know to make a decision to not get one of these! Really informative and appreciate your input!
I run with the Nike Guided runs on the app and really enjoy it. Is this compatible with the gear fit 2 pro somehow?
How do you create music
Playlist?
Can it measure distance ran or walked in feet?
So you can stream Google play or you can not?
That was a great review. I had exact same doubts about my running stats which doesnt seem very efficient.
Also has anyone tried gear fit on an actual marathon race? i had it 100% charged but then it completely ran out of juice around 3hr15min.
I am wondering if the heart rate tracker is more accurate if you place the watch slightly further up your arm instead of soo close to your hand. On my arm if i had it so close to my hand the heart sensor
it would be raised abit off my skin. Great review! Still buying it! I really want GPS and beable to store music on it and i can't find anything as cheap as this thing thats as good.
missman2106 yes, it should be worn higher up
Great review and + "The Man Comes Around" by Johnny Cash. Hopefully they'll follow Garmin Connect and update it to make things easier to find.
Great review!
I've recently got hold of a gear fit 2 via a phone contract.
I'm a bricklayer by trade, and have always wanted to know how many calories i burn doing the job as i find it very difficult to work out my daily macro intake as its far from sedentary job!
But with the inaccuracies you point out, how reliant should i be on the figures given by the gear fit?
Good question. I'd take it with a pinch of salt, which is pretty true of most of the trackers really. Acts nicely as a guide, but not something you'd swear by! Also, after using it for a few weeks, you should be able to tell when it pulls some odd results from time to time! Enjoy it!
Love it til this day
I got mine for 122$ on Amazon and almost full capability with my Iphone. Can't complain!
Nice!
Honest review.
Would you review the the new Gear 2 Pro?
I used a Gear Fit2 for a year or so as a regular smartwatch. If you're just looking for the convenience of getting notifications on your wrist and tracking steps, floors, heart rate and see the weather it's a damn good deal. You can find them refurbished for around $100. I would hold out for a fit 2 pro because it has much higher water resistance. The regular fit2 is just sweat resistant and shouldn't go under a few inches of water.
I just ordered a refurbished one of these from Best Buy but now I see that the Vivosmart HR (not the plus) is on sale from 102.00 to 109.00. Which do you recommend. I just want it for regular use to try and help me become more active and fit. I do not run but do walk around 2 to 5 miles a night at work and would like to track my steps and hearts rate over time. I can leave or take the GPS and am more interested in doing this for my own personal record instead of making it a social affair which is why I have narrowed my selection down to either the Gear Fit 2 or the Garmin Vivosmart HR. I also am trying to be budget conscious. Any advice would be much appreciated.
It's a really good question. I've not used the Vivosmart HR, but from looking at it, the GearFit2 does look to have a nicer screen, looks nicer and has basic application support, so honestly I think I would go down the route of the Gear Fit 2 still. Based on what you've said, both would work, however I think the multi-functionality of the Gear Fit 2 will be more enjoyable to use and be 'future proof', so if you did want to use it for more in the future, you could. Hope that helps!
Chris Gower That does help, you make a very valid point about the gear fit 2 being more future proof. Plus really the only thing people complain about that I've seen, is the band coming loose and the device falling off which is a moot point now. Thank you so much for taking the time to respond to my inquiry. :-)
can this send text messages using an on screen keyboard or is it only the quick messages?
Quick messages that are preloaded.
Runners Beware - very happy with my Gear Fit 2 Pro for the last 12 months but it didn't stack up for wear and Tear - Sweat appears to corrode the joint between the straps and body of the watch - mine fell to pieces.. am I training too hard? Have no idea where to get it fixed and Samsung want to charge me $36 just to raise my problem with a technician online - That's disappointing.
you can turn the wrist gesture off for the screen go to settings and then go to device and select wake up gesture and turn it off
+SYMzoid (Austin Brown) thanks Austin, I did that for a while, but then missed the function (when not driving)!
Chris Gower I usually just turn the gesture off when I'm driving or while at work cause I've noticed that when I'm at work the gesture kills the battery fast
hi there, it works only with Samsung App(at the smartphone) o can i use it with runastic, runkeeper etc?
Runtastic and Runkeeper! smartwatches.org/fitness/top-4-fitness-apps-smartwatches/
Marcus Vinícius Also works with Mapmyrun as well.
Well I got mine for free, so I cant cry about it xD
SirReiken Central were did you get it from?
@@vivid213 probably a bet
I'm really upset because it says I only run a half mile wen I run a full mile and it says ive only biked .54 miles when I biked two. also, the gps tracks my route but the whole map doesn't appear. is it because I live in the middle of nowhere? pls help...im wondering if I should just send it back!
Did you have your phone on you at the time?
What do you think about the Garmin vivoactive HR?
While I'd love to try it out; I've not been able to get my hands on one. The only thing that worries me is in an effort not to eat into their Forerunner series, they may limit the Vivoactive unnecessarily.
is it possible to use or sync apps like runastic, mapmyrun and strava with this?
+Marcus Vinícius hi Marcus, no to runtastic and strava at the moment but MapMyRun has a nice app that syncs with the main MapMyRun ecosystem
thanks for answer so quickly.. i like to share stats with friends who have that type of apps, its kind of hard to find any gps smartwatch that can do it
Nice review! Maybe you can help me with information if is compatible with Xiaomi Max phone. Thanx forward!
Hey Elod - thanks a lot! Gear Fit 2 is compatible with Android 4.4 and above, and it looks like the Xiaomi Max is 6.0 - so it should be!
Nice review I subscribed u
i got it spicifcily for running. im having accruacy issues too. i. pissed
Do I need to carry my mobile every time I go for a run? Is the device sufficient enough to track the activity I am involved with?
+Sudip Kumar Mondal hey Sudip, you know I tried it without my phone recently when I was also testing the Gear S3. The distance it reported for a 3 mile run was wrong by about one mile. It seems it really needs the phone for accurate GPS etc. So, while it claims it can run without the phone, I wouldn't recommend doing so unless you had to.
Aah that sounds bad. :( Maybe sticking to a Garmin/fitbit device would be the best option left.
I tried the gear fit 2 out for a week. I didn't use it for notifications, just tracking fitness stuff and used the music player on runs. The battery life was horrible. Start out at 100% at night when I went to bed and by the time I would get ready for bed again, the battery was at 18%. You have to charge it daily with hardly anything running on it. If they could fix the battery life to hold up like the Garmin products, this would definitely be the tracker to buy.
The Auto Wake Gesture can be turned on and off in "settings" and "device." Also, mine does not "time out" either. So, I'm not sure why yours has these issues. Mine is great. The mileage tracker is extremely accurate, but the HR monitor is not. My husband wears the Garmin Approach X40 and on a hike, his kept gaining a ridiculous amount of mileage, while mine was much more accurate. I love my GF2. I'm in the US.
That's pretty funky. I know the Gear S3 has no issues with the wrist 'on and off' function. Could be either an upgrade (I''ve since sold the Fit 2) or mine was more sensitive, perhaps? Either way, for the money I still think the Fit 2 is a great fitness tracker!
The auto wake is a feature you can turn on and off. Go to settings and hit Device and "Wake Up Gesture" and turn it off!! Simple fix. Then it won't come on whenever you move your wrist!
Hi, i wonder if it will last a marathon in one charge.
Hi Dennis - if you are using it purely in tracking mode it should last around 6 hours, which should be enough time for most people to run a marathon! If you are streaming music from it, I'm reading around 3-4 hours, which is between Boston Qualifying time and what could be considered a good time for an amateur marathoner to finish!
I’ve got a gear fit2 black never crashed and I’m a kid and I look so cool 😎 when got it on
Kids are not supposed to comment but ok?
what are you going on a about
punk rock? bad religion and nofx? I'll subscribe just for that reason.
Best reason I've heard!
nice one
good review. I recently purchased one. I've noticed that the step count is incorrect. Anyone else have these issues?
Thanks a lot! Mine synced pretty accurately with my phone's daily step count (before I started using the Fit 2) so you could have a faulty unit?
Chris Gower ok. I'll have to keep a manual count to check the accuracy. I do like it. again...great review. best review I've seen so far.
The Auto Wake Gesture is a feature that can be turned on and off (where you move your wrist and it comes on). Mine does not "time out' either. The mileage tracker and step counter are both accurate, but I will say the HR monitor is not very accurate, but then again, wrist monitors will never be as accurate as chest straps.
You can turn off the gesture settings it's not hard
great vids
Thanks a lot!
How do you know the Garmin is accurate?
Sammy Danko it's the industry benchmark - and I ran four marathons between 2010-2012 with two different Garmins, as well dozens of smaller distance races from 5k to half marathon and my pace, time and distance always matched the official stats released after each race based on my race tags 👍
Is this review after the latest update
+Nidal Arabi hi yes this was after the late November/early December update that added auto-pause etc
While driving just turn on the power saver. That should be helpful.
The running watch-face does look unhelpful. Is there any hope for modifications? I am desperate for a watch/tracker with GPS+Music, I've ruled out all the others :(
I wouldn't count on it to be honest. If you can find it cheap, it may be worth getting to see if you could live with it and return it if unhappy?
Hi Chris, have you tried this? Looks promising! uarecord.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/115000290543-Samsung-Gear-Fit2
Hey, that does look like it could fix the issue actually ! Great find
I wonder what your review of a fitbit charge 2 would be in comparison...
+LinkLeoSF not had a chance to use a fitbit yet, but would like to compare it for sure
I bought this and tested for a year.
To be honest, Im disappointed with the capability of capturing accurate distance. I ran along with another device (phone) to track the same workout, turns out the result was so inaccurate.
Hi everyone this is a solution of GPS activation first of All go to gear setting then go to connections and find last one gps on and other other thing is connect Samsung mobile if you don't have Samsung mobile just Gear disconnect from mobile and your GPS is working 100% after your any activity finish then connect your mobile device and sync your data on Samsung S health app
it's able to take phone calls????
+Riyad Gani you can answer phone calls (as in pick the phone up) by swiping the watch, but you have to talk and listen using your smartphone
Chris Gower hmm so with Bluetooth headphones or a speaker it should work.. then again most bluetooth headphones have a answer button.. without call display though. Very professional review and insight!
I drink that coffee too!
Cafe Bustelo is good stuff!
Turn on do not disturb
GPS and running features DO NOT work properly if you have bluetooth headphones comnected and the music player turned on while you are running and measuring your run. I had mine taken to service 4 times. It's not getting repaired because it's a hardware bug. After months quarreling with Samsung (and not having a watch at all) they gave me a new one now. A gear fot 2 pro, but I will not use it. No trust!! Not anymore. I bought a garmin!
The GPS tracking is not accurate even if you're not using bluetooth headphones. I've tried both, multiple times, comparing the distance and pace tracking with various fitness apps and my phone GPS. Jogging without bluetooth, it's consistently behind about 0.1 mile for each mile while with bluetooth the measurements were all over the place. The only way I could get a bit more accuracy is to install Endomondo premium (you get a free 12-month premium membership as promotion right now). The pace and distance are still wrong as you run but when you come home to sync the data it will somehow get adjusted and you can see the final numbers. It still doesn't help if you want to train using the GF2. I just don't think this gadget has such capability at this point.
thanks for saving me $
don't buy this , I got incorrect step counter, only resting heart rate, it falls down during weight training so many times, battery sucks. Go with apple watch or garmin fenix
ROGER THAT 😂😂😂😂
I own it and the battery life is so nasty.
runners are fine! but for everything else :
czcams.com/video/LD3PcPx-aeg/video.html
I have one I love it there's no reason to get smart watch
simply saying is it is bad but I like it cause it is cheap
I'd disagree with that summary. In the same way that I wouldn't expect a $300 point and shoot to live-up to a $1000 DSLR, the Fit 2 is great as long as you don't ask it to outperform a full smartwatch or a dedicated running watch (both which cost a lot more). Perfect for casual users
Yes. That is why I brought one several days ago from Costco with 130 Canadian dollars.wow
Good Gawd! He looks like a zombie from the Walking Dead!!!!! BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
edit : did you know you have a twin czcams.com/video/ji0f4c8IR7U/video.html
ugh, you really can't lock it on for running. I keep reading the gear fit 2 gps isn't accurate...
Garmin 230, here I come.
Hey thanks a lot for the heads up - I have reported it. Also, for running, I do still swear by Garmin. I'm actually going to be going back to Garmin after my S3 (made another review of that on my channel) as, over time, my old Garmin is still more accurate than that
We get it...you run. We get it you love your Garmin, hahah
Sell me yours lol
Well you know these orientals. There probably working on the assumption that when you drive you would hold the wheel properly and not cross your hands over.... Just saying like..lol
