  • This is a review of the Camojojo Bird Feeder with the HiBird Camera installed.
Pre-Release. I was provided with this camera in exchange for my review and feedback.
Discount links are provided by the company.
    Amazon Affiliate Link: amzn.to/4a6x8gs
I have tested and reviewed several birdfeeders with cameras in them. Most recently with a Blink Camera in stalled.
The HiBird camera has its own rechargeable battery (usb-c) and lasts a very long time.
The audio and video quality from this camera is better than the other cameras I have here (Blink, and Arlo) for near distance recording.
Outstanding Audio Quality - You will hear everything, even distant bird calls.
I was impressed by the wind reduction when exposed to 40-50 mph gusts recorded March 10th during our weather event.
Best audio of any wireless cameras I use.
Not just for the bird feeder. In my opinion, the camera by itself is worth the price. You have options available in the app. I purchased the Nature Cam in the past for close-up video captures of mice, and other bee-related activity. This camera is larger, and a better lens system as well as the ability to capture nuanced sounds.
Mounting, the camera can be mounted and removed without tools.
There are 1/4 - 20 threaded brass mounting receivers on the back and bottom of the camera. Added diversity.
Still images can be HUGE but my emphasis is on video.
You can save files to the CF card, or use your Wifi to link the camera to your phone. You can connect to the feeder cam and LIVE view, or check the stored video captures.
SECURITY CAMERA - Because it's in a Bird Feeder, I think it's also a great way to use the feeder as a security system by facing it at your walk-way, front door, or storage area etc. You control the sensitivity and LED lighting option.
Yes, I recommend this feeder/camera system.
NOTE: If something I receive for a review does not work as designed, I do not post the review, I return the product. I'm keeping this one.
Black Soldier Fly Larvae will boost spring nesting success with Bluebirds. Also brings birds to the feeder that don't normally visit bird feeders. This is an affiliate link to the larvae I'm using in this feeder: amzn.to/49MkUdN
Wild birds can benefit from both mealworms and black soldier fly larvae (BSFL) as a tasty treat, but here's why BSFL might have a slight edge:
Calcium Powerhouse: The biggest difference is calcium content. Mealworms are a good source of protein, but lack calcium, a crucial nutrient for strong bones and eggshells. BSFL contains around 50 times more calcium than mealworms! This is especially important for birds during nesting season.
Nutrient Rich: Besides the calcium advantage, BSFL offers a comparable amount of protein to mealworms. They also boast a healthy fat content and a good amount of phosphorus, which helps birds absorb calcium.
Easier Digestion: Some sources suggest that the chitin in mealworm exoskeletons can be tough for some birds to digest, while BSFL might be easier on their digestive systems.
The Sustainable Choice: Black soldier fly larvae are being touted as a more eco-friendly insect feeder option. They are raised on organic waste, which helps reduce waste headed to landfills.

My father would feed meal worms to the bluebirds. He made bluebird boxes by the dozens. He would attach them to fence posts along the roads. Brings back some good memories. Thanks Fred.

Black soldier fly larvae really boosted bluebird nesting success last spring. More calcium than meal worms.

Thank you for sharing. I didn't realise that the birds flew in snowy and windy conditions.

Hi Kennith, when they come in to claim their nesting areas this time of year, unseasonal snow storms can really impact them. That's when they need feed the most. The Bluebirds are a great example since they don't generally eat seeds, and need access to worms and bugs they find in the grass. Feeders bridge that gap :)

They sent my us one of these to review. I was supposed to install it this weekend so we could review it, but hey I was busy, maybe next week.

I think you'll find it easy to use. It was nice to be included in the review group. I've turned down all of the other Smart Feeder designs this year, but this one stands out.

What a great camera! By far, better than Arlo, Blink, and Wyze. Thanks for the review! Did the camera trigger every time the branches blew, or did it only trigger with the birds?

    • @FrederickDunn
      @FrederickDunn  Před 6 měsíci +1

Branches didn't set it off, I had the sensitivity set low.

Could I attach this model to a window sill? As a blind person, I'm heartened that there is voice guidance on the camera. Thank you for your detailed descriptions. I'm eyeing this product now.

If you are comfortable putting screws into your window framing, you "could" do that, I think I'd rather mount it to a post or something else so you're not doing potential damage to your water barrier flanging that windows often have around them.

*Hi Fred, Thanks!* Nice Rig, Great Views, even in lower light. Shade is one of those deals Logic 'sneaks' in at times, perhaps transparent area in Roof, Or Paint underside lighter color. (since roof's Specially attached) And of course, eventually Leaves will grow, so feeder is shaded mounted on Tree, 8|} sorry, don't mean to cast shadow. haha
tho - Never Fear, Squirrels will bring all their 'glory'. ugh.
Clear panels reflect some light, wonder if Aluminum Tape strips added, or under Roof help? - _may look 'tacky',_

    • @FrederickDunn
      @FrederickDunn  Před 6 měsíci +1

I think that a clear roof would not last as long in the weather, and add expense. I did put it on the side of an evergreen tree with full branches above. Out on a post with no shade, it will show much more bird detail. I was just avoiding heavy snow/rain on the unit. Squirrels don't care at all about it with black soldier fly larvae in it, but if I put sunflower seeds in, they would be there in a blink :)

@@FrederickDunn Great to Know, Thanks! I agree about the length of life, re: material. Then another thought - corrugated fiberglass Translucent Panels, [type in Greenhouses, etc.] Yes, getting carried away, but ...
Heads up to Squirrels, i'll have to Read up on larvae to see what birds here will partake. I'm losing against the squirrel detail. Cheers!

Frederick, thank you so much for your excellent and impartial video review. This is the best that I have found on the Camojojo Hibird Cam and I enjoyed it so much I bought it and installed it here in the UK yesterday. I am delighted with it - did have an issue with it not detecting at first and I believe that was because the camera was angled slightly too high (ie just a little of the feeding tray visible). Now angled down more all is good. I have ordered a solar panel (Camojojo do not ship their solar panels to the UK and they are silly expensive on Amazon ie 10x the price of an equivalent). However, once again, massive thanks for your review it is exceptional.

I wonder if there are other compatible solar panels that you can hook it up to? If you find a good one, please share your experience with it :)

There are a lot of these camera feeders out on the market. I'd even say the market is getting flooded. This is the best one I've seen. It's well constructed, and the extension perch is very unusual. I hope yours works out well for you. The ones I reviewed last spring are still holding up too.

Tried to order one. Only indicates that it’s sold in the Us and in United Kingdom.
Anyone from Canada succeeded in ordering? Thank you
Update for buyers in Canada. Sent a message to the company and they answered back. You can now order from Canada. They are in expansion to offer to different countries but their web site did not reflect that
    Hope this helps someone…??🤷‍♀️

BUT I contacted support and they just told me that they are selling them through the Amazon Canada site, not through their own site, which I checked, they are now on AMZ Can.. yesterday I checked there and no listings.. Amazon USA has it but will not deliver to Canada... so grab one off of Amazon Canada if here... stock could deplete and backorder soon. I could not find one anywhere after looking for many days and not getting support help either, but they came through late but satisfactory.. as long as Amazon fulfills my order lol, will let you know here if they do not..
