- Does this new solar powered wifi camera and nest box system actually work in the real world? Could it be the answer to not needing to use household power in order to have a camera in a nest box in your garden?
In this video we unbox and show you how to install this new system from UK company Gardenature as well as giving you our thoughts on whether or not this is a solution for people who don't want to run cables around their garden or drill holes through their walls! There's also some footage from the actual box in the days just after installation.

I liked the old one because of the perspective and that you could see the hole with arriving and leaving bird also as unwanted guest.
Hopefully you'll change back to the old view
true, but the old one was a bit too small which probably caused some of the baby birds to get trampled to death. not sure if the floor on this one is bigger though

I currently live in an apartment and I don't think any birds would be interested in nesting on the side of my building, but one day, when I own my own home, I will definitely have a box with a camera in a tree so I can also watch my own little birds.

Birds are making short visits to both the old and new boxes each morning but currently there aren’t any overnight stays.

Excellent video. Will definitely look into the new wireless solar bird house cam. I've been working on different systems where wireless cameras work well, but struggled up to this point with the solar part. Figured technology would catch up. Thanks for your great content. I have several videos up on bird boxes. Have made a live cam squirrel box for this spring, been quite the adventure building making the tech semi squirrel proof.😊

Hello from Canada. Great video I also have a similar setup albeit not solar. You mentioned lacking motion detection settings. That being said what I've used for many years now is software called Blue Iris it has the ability to do several seconds before movement detection. It also has a built in server which you can stream to platforms. Look @ mine. Anyway great job loved it.

Connect a 4 inch or 5 inch long tube the same diameter as the entry hole connected to the entry hole on the outside so the birds can get in and out but nothing can get to them.

I'm very happy because I've lot of blue T, and great T and robins in my bird feeder during this winter. They love sunflower seeds and peanuts. I've build around a well sized mesh fence to repel green parrots (holes diameter around 40 mm or 1 and 1/2 inches). I'm using a wired ip cam but there is no embeded sound on it. I'm recording it on a CCTV DVR and I publish muted videos on my YT channel. I'm streaming on private channel on YT to watche little birds everytime and from everywhere. For streaming I used also OBS but to my mind it is not very stable. Next step, for me, should be to put a camera on DIY nest box. I've bought several nest box in low cost retailler "Action" for only 2,79€. The nest box are good made for blue T, and great T but not so enough wide to put on camera inside.
I wish and I hope, that you'll can share to us plenty of nice videos of blue T, great T and all other garden birds for the next spring. I guess you like also hedgehogs !

Great video. I know you say you don’t have many DIY skills apart from using a screwdriver and you don’t need to do any drilling through walls with this box, but surely you’ve had to use a power drill with hammer action to attach it to the brick wall?
I did put some small rawlplugs into the brick wall with a cordless drill to attach the box and the solar panel to the wall. That’s much simpler than drilling a hole through walls which is big enough to get a network cable through and then worry about making it waterproof.
My camera box has been up for five days and I’m so excited to see if we get a nest started on day 6 - like you did! We also have blue tits flying in and out!
I started with feeder cam, but soon nest cam! I love this. Join me if you like it...

Hi there, thanks for your videos, they inspired me to get one of these! Ive got the Garden Nature wired wifi version.
Quick question, im having issues with the amount recording it will do in a 24 hour period! I.e it stops revording the events during the afyernoon! Once it gets to midnight, the recordings will then continue again!!??
Have you had any issues like this, and know of any fix?? Or is mine faulty?

I’ve always recorded with a mac to an external drive using a free to download application called OBS. There are lots of tutorials on youtube of how to use it with mac or pc

The only real comment is that it would be good to have a camera that also shows a colour picture at night. They do exist and are not expensive.
There is enough light through that hold so the camera can see? Isn't it dark in the box?
are the small birds able to exit the nest box, arent the walls too smooth for that?
Sorry had a second comment on thinking about the frequency, 2,4 or 5 ghz would be good + we just have had fibre insralled and although it runs on both it would (?) interrupt the picture if it changed the frequency. Any reason for not using 5 ghz as well? Otherwise an excellent video. Cheers

One question...the wireless camera is recording 24/7? Or only when detect motion?

Disappointingly there currently isn't any nest building activity in the box that's set-up for live streaming. A nest is under contruction in the wifi box but that's not suitable for a live stream unfortunately.
How easy or difficult is it to clean the box?

Should maybe put a wire mesh around the entrance so the bigger birds can't reach in but the nesters can still get out.
Isn't the hole just big enough for Bluetits, and not bigger birds then?
@@robertneedham6335 the hole was big enough for a bird to eat one of the babies. I'm talking about putting a net around the outer hole so the big birds can't get to the babies inside the birdhouse
no birds were eaten by other birds. The larger birds can't fit through the hole.
Is it the Green Feathers camera that lets you livestream to CZcams or the Garden Nature cameras? Or both? :)
you can stream any camera to you tube but computers are still needed. A camera won’t stream directly on it’s own.

I have a spare CCTV camera with light on it for night vision can I use it
that depends on if it fits in a nestbox and what the focal length ofvthe lens is.
@@nestboxcam-loughborough I was more concerned about the light shining on the birds is it safe for them to have a light or do they need darkness all the time also would it affect the eyesight of the newborns
@@nestboxcam-loughborough the light on my CCTV is not pir it's a hikvision camera with a small led light on it that comes on when its senses darkness
if it”s infra red it’s not a problem. Check on if the camera can focus close up though. Regular security cameras tend to need a few metres from subject to camera in order to be able to focus
I don't think $300 is fairly priced for a $50 camera and solar panel and a $50 birdhouse with a (pretty cool) plastic shelf.

Only works with good WIFI, useless if you have a big garden and the box is out of WIFI signal. Cables more reliable
