  • Here Marlin Czajkowski from Marlin Crawler performs his famous "Walking the Crawler" technique in 13th gear. Yes, I said 13th gear. He has done this many times over the years since 1994 but this was the first time anyone ever got it on video. Filmed August 25, 2007. Location: Big Bear, California

    It's interesting that you mention Unimog because the only truck we've ever seen on the trail that is slower than the Crawler Truck was a 2,300-something-to-one Unimog. It had 44" tires and when at the time the Crawler Truck had 35", the Unimog was just barrrrrrely slower but still slower. It was very impressive. I believe he had a very low brownie box or something, I was very young at the time. The lowest we've ever had the red Crawler truck was 2,159:1 back in 1996. Thanks! BigMike

    Yes, Marlin has had Triple Toyota Marlin Crawler Transfer cases in his Red 1980 "Crawler" Truck since 1995. You can see more of his truck on his website at Marlin Crawler.

    Thanks for the comment! Marlin has done this a lot and so far has not injured himself :) It's easy to do when we're going to slow. Remember, he is in 13th gear in this video!! Wow! If he was in 1st gear @ 1,372:1, then his truck would only be moving at 0.06 MPH!

    Marlin has NEVER claimed to be the one who came up with the idea. But I guarantee countless thousands of people credit Marlin for putting the Toyota minitruck back on the map, and that was his dream when he invented his MC01 dual case adapter back in 1994. Thanks for the comment!

    Thank you for your questions! It is very simple to build & install. What year and model is your truck? 4, 6, or 8 cyl? Basically there are two routes you can take: Double your low range section of your transfer case, or you can replace your stock low range gears with Marlin's 4.70:1 gear set. It really depends on your application in terms of what is available to you. I highly recommend Marlin's adapter since it is made in USA and his gear sets are made in Japan! Best quality and reliability!

    It's nice to see people getting along on you tube once again. LOL. I love the stuff you guys have done with Toyota, but Marlin is slacking when I order my stuff. I just think that the customer should get their stuff in days not weeks. But then again, who else sells that stuff!

    PhalanxSDA, if you would rather open/ close blinds than wheel, why do you post vids of 4runners on the trail? You're right, they are toys, albeit very fun toys, and wheeling is not for everyone. However, something about this vid perked your curiosity, or you would not have watched it!

    Drove a rig with aw4. R&p 5.38. in it and atlas 4 speed gearing made for 150-1 on paper the converter made it more like 300 -1 the only thing it was good for was walking along side it as it was...useless...on a trail...this 1000-1 shut has to be the result of too many Ben h racing sessions over useless build ideas...lol...I made upper helldorado waterfall on 39.1 ...this thing would need need the cable .

    • @bigmikemr2947
      @bigmikemr2947 Před 8 lety

      +yerwrng Thank you for the comment. A 150:1 final drive ratio with an automatic is very nice. We have a local customer with a K5 Blazer, 350 V8 with TH350 and our Dual Ultimate Marlin Crawler Toyota transfer case system making him 145:1 on paper. That thing is very impressive for an automatic! It is difficult to bring to a stop with the brakes in drive! After Marlin popularized multiple low ranges for trail use in 1994, Peterson's 4-wheel and Off-Road magazine published an article about it in I believe 1995 stating how an automatic lower than 80:1 is needed for the new term Marlin called "Rock Crawling". This red truck has ran Helldorado in Moab a few times over the years. I would have to ask Marlin if he was winched each time, I'd assume he was, but either way, something that steep and loose certainly cannot be Crawled! Shifting up and using some throttle as you did would certainly be the way to go!

    an Atlas 4 speed is more practical and stronger.

    • @JJ-wp5yn
      @JJ-wp5yn Před 8 lety

      Just because something predates something doesn't make it any better. And thats the problem..with the marlin crawler being purely based around toyota you've limited your marketing, the atlas has been retrofitted and nearly perfected to suit many different applications including toyota marine,street and off road..even our military uses them in the humvees as well as militaries around the world. So far the the only worthy competition That the Atlas has is the hero case, and even the hero. As for practicality, let's talk about gearing; out of allllll those gears, 13th gear was wayyyyy more gearing than you'll ever need.. I mean shit sure it sounds cool in a conversation but I can achieve the almost the same results with an nv4500 with a granny low 6.37, an 11.70 gear reduction from the atlas, and 5.38 gears.

    • @JJ-wp5yn
      @JJ-wp5yn Před 8 lety

      +Marlin Crawler and as far as I know, the Marlin doesn't have front axle disconnect or rear axle disconnect allowing for front dig. The Atlas does, making it much more sought after with seasoned and professional rock crawlers. 80% of the transfer cases used in King of the hammers, and baja 500/1000 are Atlas's

    • @dacookiemonster5458
      @dacookiemonster5458 Před 8 lety

      If I could buy an Atlas that would bolt onto the back of my Toyota Tranny for the same price as a Marlin Crawler adapter, I would. That is simply not the case.

    • @JJ-wp5yn
      @JJ-wp5yn Před 8 lety

      you can. you just need the adapter and you'll have 10x the strength of a marlin crawler. Well worth the investment.

    • @dacookiemonster5458
      @dacookiemonster5458 Před 8 lety +2

      10 times the strength? Bullshit. Atlas 4 speed+Toyota tranny adapter for the same price as a Marlin Crawler adapter? Bullshit. I wholeheartedly agree that the atlas is a badass unit, but it's apples to oranges. Also, I do feel that Marlin Crawler should develop their own transfer case design to compete with the Atlas.
