    The flaps on the hinge suppose to fold under and there is 2 long elastics that come with the tent and hook into the loops on the flaps holding the flaps tight on the hinges. The front fly awning looks to have the shorter tension bars from the side windows. Put all the bars together and pick the longer bars.

      I add some heat shrink to the 2 longer ones and glued the little caps on the ends. The similar kings version has an awning that has an awning which looking to see if it attaches to the black fly.

    I bought a king one six months ago and I use nearly every weekend and does not let water in on heavy rain.

    Hi, regarding you side awning skirts being out of reach, hence straps being utilised.
    Once you've errected the tent you should be able to open side windows internally and place tension bars in allicated holes at base then hook awning over tension bars, zip window closed. Reverse on pack down.
    That way your windows have full air flow and awning skirt is correctly in place.
    Moving on from that, what stops water still ingressing thru moon roof zipper, I must have missed your resolution to that.
    Also, I just can't get my head around the door access, the awning design is inadequate if water can access bedding when door opened.
    Sorry, I couldn't recommend a unit that has that flaw in the design.

    Looks like a great set up. My biggest concern with the rooftop is falling off the ladder and no easy access to your belonging at night.

    • @NorthOz
      @NorthOz  Před 2 měsíci

      True. I had the ladder setup on a more horizontal angle. I’m terrified of heights and it’s taken a while to get used to but at this angle it’s okay. Keeping anything I need up there for the night was great with room in there but there are no quick night time tent departures that’s for sure

    Every time I camp in a group and someone has one of those fold out style roof tops. They watch us pack up our swags and clam style roof top tents in 2 minutes while they stuff around for another 10 to 15 folding it up tucking and trying to get it zipped in the bag at an awkward height. Every time they look around and say something like. 'Think we bought the wrong tent'.
    Especially on those traveling trips where you are in a different location every night. They do have a shorter profile and more room when open though. Maybe these hard top ones are a bit quicker

      I’ve got it down to about 6 minutes on packup now but like you said, it is more stuffing around to pack up. Setup is very quick though. Packing up a swag is a lot less climbing around but the benefit of the RTT is more space. Both definitely have their pros and cons. If I’m staying somewhere longer than a day, I’d like to have the RTT but I’m happy to be trying out different setups to see what works 👍

      @@NorthOz keen to see how it goes. 6 minutes is pretty good. I've been mixing swags and old kings kwicky pop up tent with kids. Looking to upgrade to 2 arb stretchers with single swags. And like the look of those outback tourer tents. Or bundutop but might have to sell a kidney for that one lol

      @@intimatespearfisherI've sat here biting my lip watching the design of this thing, it is so flawed.
      I'd avoid one like the plague.
      Should you be able, and yes I know they're expensive, but go for the Bundutop, you'll never look back.
      Wife & I went there, so friggin good.
      Pull up, over centre 4 catches (in our case retrieve two portions of ladder off of roof, as that's where we carry ours), push up button for 18 seconds, roof goes up, skirted awning comes out right the way around, climb ladder, switch on light, clothes off into bed, yes all bedding contained within, nothing to do.
      Morning, make bed, stand on ladder (always a good idea to have re-clothed yourself first), push down button, walls fold in, skirted awning retracts, stop about 120mm from closed, walk around checking all canvas away, push down button, over centre 4 catches, ladder back on roof, ready to go.
      If it rains, one piece solid aluminium roof above you, full skirted awning right around, windows X 4 can be down still, only awning skirt gets wet, on closing it retracts in over walls, bedding stays dry. They are a no brainer if you budget can go there.
      We've optioned ours with:
      add a room awning
      Bunduawn 360° awning.
      Installed 12v switched electric blanket
      Installed 2 X dimmable led reading lights
      Permanent mounted diesel heater, no cold nights now
      A swivel bracket that holds ph to roof for watching movies.
      Note: switched out original mattress as wife found it too hard. Also, being memory foam it was very heavy.
      Lighter plusher mattress now.

    Looks great mate 👍🏻👍🏻 I’m getting ideas for the back of mine I’ve been thinking of if I got a canopy made up get it shorter in height so the RTT would be flush with the headboard bar just to help with gravity, aerodynamics, fuel, wind noise etc would like your thoughts if this would compromise the canopy too much having it that low? Cheers

    • @NorthOz
      @NorthOz  Před 2 měsíci

      Sounds like a great plan. Mine sticks up pretty high but a shorter canopy would fix that. I don’t mind it being that high up as the view is pretty good but in terms of ease of use, lower would be better. I haven’t noticed the aerodynamics being worse but off-roading it does tend to lean with all that weight up high. Lower canopy would fix that for sure

    Drifta sell a ladder step mod you rivert on changes the angle of the steps much easier when bear foot. Or you can get the Alu-cab ladder which is so much better.

    • @NorthOz

      I’ll look into that! That sounds very helpful instead of replacing the whole thing. I appreciate the advice 👍

    Can you leave your bedding in when packed down?

    • @NorthOz
      @NorthOz  Před 4 dny

      Nope. I tried with a thick blanket and didn’t work. It folds up very thin so this isn’t possible

  • @davidmilledge221
    @davidmilledge221 Před 2 měsíci

    I guess on a wagon you could have the shower tent or dunny tent underneath between ladder and car

    • @NorthOz
      @NorthOz  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Absolutely. It frees up a bit of room. I have enough room to swing out the canopy door to 3/4 open. Plenty of room to stand and move under it too as you can see I was sheltering myself from the rain with it

      Hi mate, I’m going to give it a go again in the rain with it properly setup and let you know long term how it goes. I like a lot of it’s features and I’m keen to see how it goes again in the same conditions with it setup correctly. I stand by my initial thoughts and sharing the experience that not many other people would have shared on this platform
