    I may have a chance at one of these for about $300 usd. For that price or maybe slightly more I will pick it up for field use. Supposed to be in near mint condition....

    I have shot a couple of these guns , there is a problem with the long flash hole to the bottom barrel , it gets blocked easily and can be noticeably slower than the top barrel . International muzzle loading clay shooting is a single shot affair , so the guys I know who shoot these competitively only shoot the top barrel . That may be because there can be a problem with double barreled muzzle loaders , the load in the unfired barrel can move forward with recoil with nasty consequences .
    Those Barrel bands can be a bit sharp as well . In saying that they are nice guns and quite unusual in the ML world , but not very well made , although I believe a few high grade ones were also made , and they come with all the kit needed to shoot them . I had the opportunity to buy a new in the box ,one a few years ago but passed on it .
    Pedersoli is owned by Beretta and make a range of nice muzzle loading single shots ( flint and cap) and English style doubles .
    I shoot matchlock , wheel lock and flintlock smooth bores and rifles and I cant be bothered with the new fangled caps

    Another good vid, can you do a review of the beretta 686e? You’ve already reviewed the 686e evo which is slightly older and has extended chokes compared to the 686e which has flush Mobil chokes

  • @karlsailor
    @karlsailor Před 3 lety

    No harm in refinishing or otherwise making it nicer. As for collectors value, it hasn't gotten anymore valuable in the last 40 years, so... Enjoy it for what it is, a plain repro

    • @tgsoutdoors
      @tgsoutdoors  Před 3 lety +1

      Should have made it themselves and it would have been a different animal. Then again, in 1980 beretta were not making the quality of guns they are now.

    Is the UK banning lead shot or something? I don't know a whole lot about shotguns but thought lead is usually used for older guns.

    Very interesting. Having played with black powder muzzle loaders, they are very mucky. Shame it's not better finished but still, little off-season project to find a nice lump of timber for it ? :D

  • @roeng1368

    Very very plain wood, a decent piece of walnut would transform that gun.

  • @JHruby
    @JHruby Před 3 lety +1

    I have to say that gun is not up to today's Beretta standards, especially for a commemorative gun. Fit and finish look like something I'd expect from a Marlin .22 and I'm pretty certain that the Beretta would have cost a fair bit more than a Marlin .22.
    But that is not to say that you shouldn't have made a video of it. A monotonous diet of ABG videos (another best gun) that is handmade out of unobtanium with a price to match, gets very, very dull. Keep showing the interesting stuff!

  • @wholeNwon
    @wholeNwon Před 3 lety

    The only advantages over an old gun are usability because of modern metallurgy and certainty of breech security.
    Otherwise, I'd definitely pass. Really ugly.

  • @davidtaylor2054

    No attempt at authenticity at all, and terrible finish. Just a grotesque pastiche!
