It’s very difficult to find videos where people work on lunging pushy horses and this has been a godsend to find! I took over an extremely pushy 18year old green horse and training him has been a pain in the !!!. Will definitely be using what you did in this video, thank you so much for the insight!!!
Glad I found this video. I had to get on my mare’s case this morning after she not only got pushy, she threatened to run me over. That didn’t work out too well for her.

Can you offer suggestions to my stubborn mare? She lunges beautifully but did this about three times and now is refusing while acting confused. BUT, I think she thinks she is fooling me like a five dollar fiddle! It is a refusal. However; sound, chasing the rear end, and my whip means nothing to her. She is now refusing to even go out on the circle. I do not want to scare her and certainly do not want to tap her bottom to get her moving. How can I break her out of this funk?

While lunging my horse she got too frisky and took of cantering around me. She was going to fast I couldn’t get in front of her to stop her. Are there other ways I can get her to stop?
Honestly when this happens just let her get it out, she will get tired eventually and slow down
When I try to start my mare on a lunge she backpedals and just gives me both her eyes but never starts the actual lunge. What else can i do to start her off? I’ve tried to use an extension of my arm, but nothing seems to work. She will just back pedal and back pedal
I know this comment was three years ago but I just found it and my young horse does the same thing did you ever find an answer?
@@kennedimann9033 What I do with my horse, who has similar problems (now, you may have already tried this; this is just what works for me), is first attempting to send her off. Then, I pull her in close and try to push her out. I don't really know how to explain this. I grab near her halter and just pull her forward in the direction in which I want her to go. If she still backs, I start walking her around in a circle to kind of try to tell her "hey, this is what I want you to do." After we walk a circle, I stop her and ask again. This is on a very short lunge (maybe 4 feet, if that). All of this is when I'm applying pressure as well. If she still backs, I'd try to apply pressure to her shoulders. If, by then, she's not moving around me, I take a break and walk off before trying again.

My horse does not stay with it, stops , walks slower, into the circle....

It was actually very realistic. It's good to see training sessions with horses that aren't already perfectly trained. And if you focus on teaching just 1 thing, like standing, before moving on, especially for youngsters, they wouldn't be trained till they're 20! 😆
Stop fidgeting, stand still and stop moving the horses hindend. All you are doing is teaching the horse to fear you more. He moves around too fast with no real direction,mindless movement.
