Jennifer I must say you are a very good teacher for new cooks.
Thank you so much.
New to your Video.., I like 😊
Not sure when you posted the dinner that your son wanted a mango… so it was not rip. When ripened it will be red and yellow and resale sweet and juicey😊
Sweet
In response to the mango deal… your mango was not rip. When rip it will be red and yellow with almost no green. It will be sweet and juicy and soft. It will slice easily. Slice in quarters . Happy eating. New viewer…I like 😊😊😊
It doesn't matter if it's the same old recipes/meals....we just love watching you cook.
I appreciate that!
Hello Jennifer,
Tip of the day
If you peel potatoes don't throw away the skins
You can season them with salt and pepper and cook in oven until crisp
Use them with a dip of your choice.
Scrunched over a salad. ❤
Don't worry Jennifer I have used soap and water on cast iron for over 40 years and it never hurt yet. I just dry really well on the burner and wipe a smidge of oil on with a paper towel after. That's the way Mama taught me and she's 75.
Same..
Same here!
If your pan is well seasoned, you definitely can use soap. If you are just developing a great seasoning, it can cause issues. I too dry my skillet on the stove
Oh that mango Lol, just cut as close as possible to the pit top to bottom (along the flat side of pit. Then cut again the strips left along the edge of the pit. We usually score it and scoop out each side with a spoon. And use a small knife to get the flesh from the smaller strips. Incidentally, we don’t waste a drop, we suck or gnaw on the pit(a bit savage I know) but there’s so much good bits left on there! Mangos are delicious with Tajin!! Try it sometime 😊
I get the same way when my husband is out working in the workshop and he doesn't come in when he says he will. Inevitably it is in the middle of making dinner, so I turn everything off on the stove and run out there to make sure he isn't stuck under a car or something. All the meals look yummy!
Exactly!!
Jennifer,I like how you make do with what you have a lot of times. I raised a big family too,and I know it can get challenging a lot of times to get everyone fed. But your meals always look so good. I sure enjoyed the video your husband made recently. Farming looks like a HARD,but rewarding job. You take care.
That mango had me chuckling. Every one should be able to remember their first time cutting a mango, pineapple, and avocado. It’s an art. But CZcams it!!
The pizza looked absolutely delicious! I’m always very impressed with your pizzas. All of your meal choices were awesome! I now have many ideas. I’m loving what you are teaching us!
Thank you so much 🤗
Great recipes, as usual. I need to get some apples to make that bread. Pizza this week too. Love that you make the dough and use it right away. Love Joe sneaking in with a big smile!
Great video, Jennifer. I loved the 'Mango VS Jennifer and Peter' segment, haha. That's one of those fruits that are delicious and I don't mind paying for someone else to prep. I love getting to see the meals you make for your family even if they are things you've cooked before. It is such a sweet reminder of times when my kids were little and the simple pleasure of getting everybody fed. When you are 'in the trenches' and busy with your family you hear people make comments like that and wonder what it will be like when you reach that stage of life or at least I remember thinking that. Who knew I'd be homesick for crazy-busy dinner times and hangry kids, haha. And I actually have another batch of your honey whole wheat bread rising right now actually. Hope you had a lovely weekend.
Everything you said is so true. I already find myself missing the chaos of more than 4 kids in the house. I think you're the one who mentioned the honey whole wheat bread which spurred me to make it again. Everyone was so happy!
We love watching you cook... you are great and so fun...
I use soap and scouring pads on my cast iron as well. I've used the same ones for 50 years and there are times when they need soap, but I always dry them very well and oil them afterwards.
So glad to see the pizza again! Going to try it this week.
Hope you like it!
Lodge sells a chainmail scrubbing pad in two sizes (the inside of the pad is silicone) - the smaller blue one is sold alongside the cast iron pans at Walmart. I got the larger rectangle at Meijer. I also have a chainmail pot scrubber that is like a metal washcloth - think I got that at Bed, Bath & Beyond. I don’t like it as well as the pads. 🤷🏽♀️ I use them for our cast iron pie irons (we love campfire cooking!), my skillets, and cast iron griddles. I can scrub without worrying about taking off the seasoning. Love that they don’t rust! 😍
Hi Jennifer. I am going to try the cast iron pizza-great tip about putting the corn meal in the hot oil! It is always a good day when I can spend it with the Brockmans! Hugs and blessings.
Let me know how it goes.
Loved the clip of mangling the mango. 😂 The first time I cut a mango I had to google it. Pizza looked delicious. 🍕Thanks for including the Sweet Apple Nut Bread recipe. I put it on my to try list of recipes.
I use soap on my cast iron pans as well. Then, once I dry them, I spray a little bit of oil on them and wipe it off with a paper towel. I never have any problems with rust at all. We love breakfast for supper, and that is what we had tonight. We had bacon, scrambled eggs, hashbrown patties (I cooked them in the air fryer), toast, and peach preserves. It was great and so little work! Your pizzas looked amazing! I need to try that method soon!
We make Salisbury steaks about once a month. Always a hit with our family. We do usually have mashed potatoes and green beans as well. I usually add a bit of saved bacon grease into the bottom of my great bean pan. Takes the flavor up a notch. And I usually take a shortcut and just bake some Rhodes rolls😊. Your videos are well put together and real and fun to watch!
Bacon grease makes everything better for sure. I'm out of it right now and missing it. I guess I should fry up some bacon today.
I wish I had the planning and ideas you have for dinners!! I did meal plan for the week but had so many cancelled items in my grocery order that I am literally missing 1 thing for each meal. You inspire me to figure out how to make it work with what I have!!
Love new recipes we can always need new recipes.😍
I wash my iron skillets in dish soap rinse well and dry on stove. Best way to season a pan is cook bacon in it. Slick as a whistle after washing and drying. That's the way I was taught. Love pizza in cast tron . Made a good one when we had an ice storm , Used my pressure pot trivet in bottom and greased. pizza pan as my lid. Worked great.
We will eat breakfast for any meal, any time! Breakfast food is our favorite. I could never get tired of watching you make breakfast foods! 😉
I clean my cast iron the same way, soap and hot water. I heat it on the stove to dry. I also cook from frozen. At least there is a home cooked meal. We only get one take out pizza per week.
Absolutely love the meals of the week videos. It is great menu inspiration. Thank you for sharing your ideas with us, it is super helpful!
Delicious, rustic, family-pleasing meals. And I love breakfast meals. 😁
I clean my cast iron pans in hot, soapy water. If they are grungy I use a scrub pad too. I rinse well, dry right away and then spray with cooking oil, and use a paper towel to wipe the excess off and put it away, done! Like you said, don't over think it! Great meal ideas, thank you!
Thanks for sharing!! Sounds perfect to me.
Sure like your Miraculous Medal, what a blessing. Thank you for sharing the recipes and helpful hints. Take care and God bless 🙏❤️
Oh boy, what a super video, I enjoyed it so much! Your breads looked heavenly as did all the meals you prepared! Hi, Joe! I love your videos!!
Thanks so much!
Everything looks delish. I love watching you in the kitchen.
Hi Jennifer! I really enjoy watching your cooking videos. I love watching people's different perspectives and what they use for their ingredients. I always learn some new tips abd tricks along the way, which I'm always thankful for. I'm also targeting your pizza, lol. I can't wait. Thanks.♥️☕
Thanks for sharing your meals….it all looks so good!
I love how the kids help out!
Just got my cookbook! I'm so excited to try ALL the things! Love your channel!
Hope you enjoy it!
Wow , great job on the pizzas , I always add mozz cheese and onions to my frozen pizzas it makes a lot of difference they taste so much better . I always love your recipes we have similar taste . We just ate hamburger steaks last night , one of my favorite meals with a brown gravy potato's and corn .
I was going to make apple fritter bread but I think I’m going to try it apple bread instead. Love this type of video because it gives so many ideas. And what I also love about your meals is they aren’t super complicated, which is my down fall most of the time. I feel like I need to make all of these fancy side dishes and you just cut up some veggies, throw a jar of applesauce out and my favorite is when you just cut up lettuce with dressing for a salad. I don’t need to be fancy just feed my group of boys. Thank you!!
I use soap on my cast iron too. I dry it well with a towel then I put it on the stove turn on the flame for about a minute. Works every time to keep any rust from forming.
I always clean my cast iron with soap and water, then I put in the oven to dry it. then I’ll wipe it down with lard and the put in back in the oven for a few minutes.
I'm so glad you mentioned the Panko container shrinking. I've noticed it with quite a few products. I tell people and not sure if they believe me. You are my WITNESS!! Lol Pizza looked really good. :)
I believe you!!
I learned from your videos how to make dumplings for ramen noodles, sounds good, just flour & egg, but also notice how Peter has a great interest in cooking! He watches closely, pretty good! If he's interested in tropical fruit you could always buy frozen, probably less work. I think it's great for boys & girls to learn basics of cooking, as you do with your family.
The poor mango. It looked a little underripe but also you usually cannot twist it, you just cut it off center trying to miss the pit. I think it is great the kids want to try a new fruit, it is a great "treat". My mum did that when I was a kid, every week she tried to bring home a different fruit or veggie for us to try which was pretty hard because it was a long time ago and there wasn't always a great selection.
Hi Jennifer, I used Dawn dishsoap too. I can not see not using it. I also use the Pampered Chef scraper too. Works awesome. And also the green scrubie too. Then I rinse in hot water and put on medium flame to dry. Then cool and hang up. 😎
Mangos can't be cut like that. The meat sticks to the pit so you have to Simply peel it from the outside and just slice it off down to the pit. Love watching you try it the other way though! LOL
Good to know!
Soo looking forward to watch this!🤗🤗 Your meals ALWAYS look So Tasty and Flavorful!😋
Love Cast Iron I too wash my with a touch soap.
I have the same plates and bowls as the plate that you shredded cheese on!! I think I got it for a wedding gift 40 years ago! Still have most of it! I know what you mean about the husband saying he will be back at a certain time. When we were young, first married, my husband would get laid off in Winter.(Dump truck driver). And so he would cut would for us and to sell during the lay off. If he wasn't back within the hour of when he said he would be, it would scare me half to death!
I HAVE to try your skillet pizzas. They look fantastic, seriously. I love a crispy crust, a simple topping with seasoning. Really looks delicious 😋.
I also use a drop of Dawn but right after I wash it I put it on the low burner and wipe it with some coconut oil.
Perfect timing Jennifer, I'm waiting patiently for delivery of my cast iron pan, so thanks for the advice on how to maintain it!! Love all your video's don't care what order they come in 💕🇨🇮
Leave your cast iron on your stovetop to remind you to cook with it. Once you get the hang of it, you'll love it!
@@acountrylife OK will do, it arrived this morning so I'm literally just seasoning it. ❤🙏🇮🇪
Thank you for this video! Tell Joe I said hello! I love him. My grandson Toby is special needs & he is dear to us. 💕
I also use soup on my cast iron, I then put it on the stove upside down and turn the burner on very low so it dries all the way and then oil and put it back on the stove upside own, this method seems to work well for me. The western burgers look good, I bet my husband would love them, I will give them a try. I buy crispy chicken strips also but make mashed potatoes, top with corn, and then the crispy chicken strips (kind of like a KFC bowl). Good ideas for dinner, thank you for another great video.
Talking about shrinking products-I told my daughter that I wish I had a roll of toilet paper from when I was a kid and compare it to today. Thanks for the great recipes.
All your meals look delicious!
Everything looks delicious! A tip for the pizza is to melt the butter and add the garlic powder to it then brush it on the crust
All of your meals look absolutely delicious! I just learned a few new things! Like, I never thought to put beer in with the Brats! I also never thought to put French fried onions on a burger! Delicious! Love the pizza! I too follow Becky on Acre Homestead and plan to make some of her pizza sauce this summer! I love making quick breads and just made a yummy Hawaiian quick bread, with bananas, coconut and pineapple! It was delicious! Can’t wait to learn more regular bread baking!
I found one of those Pampered Chef fingernails in my utensil drawer today. I'll be sure to use it to scrape the cast iron skillets as well as my pizza stone. Thank you for mentioning that.
Your dinners looked amazing! Watching from New Zealand 😊😊😊
Hello Natasha from New Zealand!!
I use soap on my cast iron also. I also learned how to restore them with kosher salt and a potato.
Great meals! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for your cast iron education, I appreciate it.
I just love your videos they are just so homey your food preparation is wonderful everything looks delicious!
Love your pot holders that brings up memories who made yours
All meals looked amazing!👍❤️
I am also a soap user on my cast iron :) I have just added chicken & gravy to next week's meal plan and am off to mix up a loaf of the Sweet Apple Nut Bread it looked delicious!!!
Lol the mangled mango ! 😂😭😂 omg Tks for the gut laugh.
Really appreciate you baking on a diff video series on your channel, I don’t bake :/
Stay well Wisconsin friends ! ❤️🇨🇦
Glad you enjoyed!
so many great ideas for dinner. Thanks You fr sharing them with us.
Hi, Jennifer. I do believe to cut a mango, you slice down the side of the mango on all four sides, trying to miss the pit (so not right down the center but off to the side of the pit). It's a mystery, right? Have a great new week coming up.
I wash my cast iron with soap too 👍
Everything looks delicious ! Thanks for sharing the pizza dough recipe again too
Wow Jen those were all great meals, I want to try your pizza next it looked so delish .
I have 2 brand new cast irons that I've never used because I don't know how to cook with them. Thank you!
Leave your cast iron on your stovetop to remind you to cook with it. Once you get the hang of it, you'll love it! Use some grease\fat and fry up some potatoes!!
Course salt with just a bit of water and rub it around with a paper towel works great on cast iron skillets to get stuck bits off. That apple quick bread looked amazing and would be great toasted a bit for breakfast or an afternoon treat with hot tea.
All looks so delicious!!!!
Patricia- Indiana (Daniel) ♥️♥️
I've made your western burger without a bun. So very delicious.
What a wonderful batch of dinners! Burgers looked great and the bread too!
Becky and you are both great!
Pizzas are beautiful! The mango wasn't ripe and Google cutting/peeling a mango😉 Great job on this video🌸
I bought a Mango, and it was the same way. All that work and you only get a small amount. I never bought another one. The pizza looked wonderful :) Thanks Jennifer, for another great video.
Oh my gosh thanks for the shout out!!
Thanks for the pizza sauce recipe.
Jennifer! I Love Your show! You are all such a wholesome family. I rarely watch tv anymore, when I can see what is new or watch old faves of A Country Life! I have watched this one on repeat! The grocery hauls are my fave. I love them all! You have a beautiful family! God Bless You all! I ordered floral rhubarb. It sounds like it will smell nice. Awesome that You like it so much!
Thank you so much for watching and supporting my sponsors. Have a wonderful Sunday.
@@acountrylife You too! Happy Sunday, early. :)
Hello Jennifer thank you for sharing your vlog much appreciated by us all
Tip of the day
If you are making a chicken pie
And take chicken breast from frozen
Grate the chicken breast and put it in a bowl
It will thaw quick.
Give it a try Jennifer. ❤
Love your recipes! I am going to try the pizza, I also use soap on the cast iron, it feels too yucky if I don’t! Love Becky from acre homestead, she has also shouted out your channel too!
For the mango there are a few ways to peel it. First, instead of cutting hotdog style, cut it hamburger style. And then twist.
Or you can cut either side of the pit off then crisscross score the flesh. Pop the inside out and cut the cubes off.
I do the same thing but, I buy the naan bread from Aldis and they are wonderful
I enjoy watching your channel...Its not easy an yet you make it all seem so easy...great job from another mom in florida
Thank you Laura.
Hi Jennifer it's nice to see you I love watching your videos hi Joe ❤️🇨🇦
I was finally able to order your cook book i have been wanting so badly
Good morning everyone happy Monday and I just wanted to say that your vlogs is sooo good and you are all sweetheart and I loved your vlogs always
Good morning!
Also I love how adventurous Peter is!!
All of it looks so good 💙
I’m 59 yrs old I have my grandmas cast iron skillets I wash them every time I use them! They are 100 yrs old an a sunny side up egg will slide right out of them! After you season them if you will put them in a hot oven for 10 minutes they will be fine
Jennifer easy way for a mango peel with a potato peeler cut slits add lemon and taji
Lov your videos!
Your pizza looks amazing. One thing I like to do is add garlic butter to the crust instead of butter and garlic powder that way you don't get to much garlic powder in one spot. I've done it your way before and had my lid pop off and had ruined some of the pizza so I don't do it that way anymore.
So I used apples in your cranberry bar recipe, I had some going south quick and wanted to use them up. Oh, my goodness!! It turned out so good I did add 1 tsp of cinnamon to the mix! I sprinkled the top of the bars with powder sugar. My family loved them!
They sound amazing. 😋
@@acountrylife They were so yummy! I also made your no fuss potato soup recipe tonight! I made it in my Dutch oven on the stove top. It was amazing, you're a good cook lady!!
Chef tip from my husband. Green mangoes are not ripe they need to be red. So look for ones that have more red than green!
Thank you. I knew something was wrong.
Lodge says you can use mild dish soap. I just don't understand why you would given it's to remove oil/grease which you add back to the pan anyway.
That pizza looked amazing
Excellent!
Everything looks lovely xx
I always spray them with cooking spray after I wash and dry them
