In response to the mango deal… your mango was not rip. When rip it will be red and yellow with almost no green. It will be sweet and juicy and soft. It will slice easily. Slice in quarters . Happy eating. New viewer…I like 😊😊😊

    Hello Jennifer,
    Tip of the day
If you peel potatoes don't throw away the skins
You can season them with salt and pepper and cook in oven until crisp
Use them with a dip of your choice.
    Scrunched over a salad. ❤

Don't worry Jennifer I have used soap and water on cast iron for over 40 years and it never hurt yet. I just dry really well on the burner and wipe a smidge of oil on with a paper towel after. That's the way Mama taught me and she's 75.

Oh that mango Lol, just cut as close as possible to the pit top to bottom (along the flat side of pit. Then cut again the strips left along the edge of the pit. We usually score it and scoop out each side with a spoon. And use a small knife to get the flesh from the smaller strips. Incidentally, we don’t waste a drop, we suck or gnaw on the pit(a bit savage I know) but there’s so much good bits left on there! Mangos are delicious with Tajin!! Try it sometime 😊

I get the same way when my husband is out working in the workshop and he doesn't come in when he says he will. Inevitably it is in the middle of making dinner, so I turn everything off on the stove and run out there to make sure he isn't stuck under a car or something. All the meals look yummy!

But your meals always look so good. I sure enjoyed the video your husband made recently. Farming looks like a HARD,but rewarding job. You take care.

Great video, Jennifer. I loved the 'Mango VS Jennifer and Peter' segment, haha. That's one of those fruits that are delicious and I don't mind paying for someone else to prep. I love getting to see the meals you make for your family even if they are things you've cooked before. It is such a sweet reminder of times when my kids were little and the simple pleasure of getting everybody fed. When you are 'in the trenches' and busy with your family you hear people make comments like that and wonder what it will be like when you reach that stage of life or at least I remember thinking that. Who knew I'd be homesick for crazy-busy dinner times and hangry kids, haha. And I actually have another batch of your honey whole wheat bread rising right now actually. Hope you had a lovely weekend.

Lodge sells a chainmail scrubbing pad in two sizes (the inside of the pad is silicone) - the smaller blue one is sold alongside the cast iron pans at Walmart. I got the larger rectangle at Meijer. I also have a chainmail pot scrubber that is like a metal washcloth - think I got that at Bed, Bath & Beyond. I don’t like it as well as the pads. 🤷🏽‍♀️ I use them for our cast iron pie irons (we love campfire cooking!), my skillets, and cast iron griddles. I can scrub without worrying about taking off the seasoning. Love that they don’t rust! 😍

I use soap on my cast iron pans as well. Then, once I dry them, I spray a little bit of oil on them and wipe it off with a paper towel. I never have any problems with rust at all. We love breakfast for supper, and that is what we had tonight. We had bacon, scrambled eggs, hashbrown patties (I cooked them in the air fryer), toast, and peach preserves. It was great and so little work! Your pizzas looked amazing! I need to try that method soon!

We make Salisbury steaks about once a month. Always a hit with our family. We do usually have mashed potatoes and green beans as well. I usually add a bit of saved bacon grease into the bottom of my great bean pan. Takes the flavor up a notch. And I usually take a shortcut and just bake some Rhodes rolls😊. Your videos are well put together and real and fun to watch!

I was going to make apple fritter bread but I think I’m going to try it apple bread instead. Love this type of video because it gives so many ideas. And what I also love about your meals is they aren’t super complicated, which is my down fall most of the time. I feel like I need to make all of these fancy side dishes and you just cut up some veggies, throw a jar of applesauce out and my favorite is when you just cut up lettuce with dressing for a salad. I don’t need to be fancy just feed my group of boys. Thank you!!

I learned from your videos how to make dumplings for ramen noodles, sounds good, just flour & egg, but also notice how Peter has a great interest in cooking! He watches closely, pretty good! If he's interested in tropical fruit you could always buy frozen, probably less work. I think it's great for boys & girls to learn basics of cooking, as you do with your family.

The poor mango. It looked a little underripe but also you usually cannot twist it, you just cut it off center trying to miss the pit. I think it is great the kids want to try a new fruit, it is a great "treat". My mum did that when I was a kid, every week she tried to bring home a different fruit or veggie for us to try which was pretty hard because it was a long time ago and there wasn't always a great selection.

Mangos can't be cut like that. The meat sticks to the pit so you have to Simply peel it from the outside and just slice it off down to the pit. Love watching you try it the other way though! LOL

And so he would cut would for us and to sell during the lay off. If he wasn't back within the hour of when he said he would be, it would scare me half to death!

I also use soup on my cast iron, I then put it on the stove upside down and turn the burner on very low so it dries all the way and then oil and put it back on the stove upside own, this method seems to work well for me. The western burgers look good, I bet my husband would love them, I will give them a try. Jennifer! I Love Your show! You are all such a wholesome family. I rarely watch tv anymore, when I can see what is new or watch old faves of A Country Life! I have watched this one on repeat! The grocery hauls are my fave. I love them all! You have a beautiful family! God Bless You all! I ordered floral rhubarb. It sounds like it will smell nice. Awesome that You like it so much!

Hello Jennifer thank you for sharing your vlog much appreciated by us all
    Tip of the day
If you are making a chicken pie
And take chicken breast from frozen
Grate the chicken breast and put it in a bowl
    It will thaw quick.
Give it a try Jennifer. ❤

Love your recipes! I am going to try the pizza, I also use soap on the cast iron, it feels too yucky if I don’t! Love Becky from acre homestead, she has also shouted out your channel too!

For the mango there are a few ways to peel it. First, instead of cutting hotdog style, cut it hamburger style. And then twist.
Or you can cut either side of the pit off then crisscross score the flesh. Pop the inside out and cut the cubes off.

I’m 59 yrs old I have my grandmas cast iron skillets I wash them every time I use them! They are 100 yrs old an a sunny side up egg will slide right out of them! After you season them if you will put them in a hot oven for 10 minutes they will be fine

Your pizza looks amazing. One thing I like to do is add garlic butter to the crust instead of butter and garlic powder that way you don't get to much garlic powder in one spot. I've done it your way before and had my lid pop off and had ruined some of the pizza so I don't do it that way anymore.

So I used apples in your cranberry bar recipe, I had some going south quick and wanted to use them up. Oh, my goodness!! It turned out so good I did add 1 tsp of cinnamon to the mix! I sprinkled the top of the bars with powder sugar. My family loved them!

Chef tip from my husband. Green mangoes are not ripe they need to be red. So look for ones that have more red than green!

Lodge says you can use mild dish soap. I just don't understand why you would given it's to remove oil/grease which you add back to the pan anyway.
