    One of the surprises for me was the energy it takes to navigate places you don't know, whether that's different city streets or different supermarket aisles! So on the positive side, I can't live on automatic pilot and on the negative side, I can't live on automatic pilot!

    I have lived/travelled in a camper with hubs and my dogs, and I have lived in a 1100SF cabin on a lot of acreage. I loved living that way! Living in a small space allows only the things that are truly important. It is odd how quickly you don't miss things. I still live on acreage with my horses and dogs but now have a 3600sf house with elderly parents and 65 years of their things! After living small it is very overwhelming to go back to large house, multiples of everything, and boxes of STUFF! Really, living small is a form of Swedish Death Cleaning and Minimalism combined. Don't be too hard on Jasper. Boys will be boys.

    So I am in the planning process of moving to and RV and letting go of most of my things and only take what I need. So at 62 I have a lot of stuff and being a cheapskate, do not want to pay rent for an apt or storage locker. You kinda told me what I already knew in regards to stuff we keep but seldom used.
    You have Michael's home to fall back to when a trip back to convenience land is called for. My plan would be to visit my 4 kids in different areas of the country as well as friends who I am sure would be happy to let me crash at their place.

      They are Mondetta brand. Sadly they don't make my specific legging anymore. It's a simple legging, so no fancy extra seams making it more comfortable. I picked most of mine up on Poshmark. I'm now trying a pair from Woolx, and if they hold up, may be switching over as I start to get holes in these leggings.

    Enjoy your adventure while you can. I am a generation older than you and I retired in 2014 and sold my house and started my adventure. First, I moved to Johnson City, Tenn. because there are 25 trailheads to the Appalachian Trail within an hour of there. I hiked everyday! I got good at that then moved to Colorado Springs to summit some 14ers. I spent 2 years there too and made 4 of the big mountains. My point is do what you love and you will look back at this when you are old and thank God for your chance to do it- at least I do.

    I miss my buddy, Gracie, a cocker spaniel, who passed away last July at 14 1/2 years old. Her farts used to clear the room and she would wag her tail. It's funny how living the van life or in an RV can change your life. I'm going four months of living in my van and I love it...freedom to move about. I used to be a "dresser" but now I wear black sports pant and black tees, slip on Skechers, no socks. What was once a full walk-in closet can now fit in a dresser drawer. Doing laundry costs me $4.25 and one hour of my time. I should have done this twenty years ago.

    You found your passion, ran with it, and are making it work.....that's happy living !
    I'm surprised you don't encounter more animals, but that may also be a good thing. I do a lot of exploring from home in FL and go out into wooded preserves where have a lot of deer and wild hogs, which my Rhodesian Ridgeback will go after, so I have to leash her up in advance. And in the wetlands I'm always on alert for alligators and snakes.....and yes, see/hear many. So, while I have never RV-lived, I just imagined you would always be surrounded by animals.
    Yes, the silence is amazing, especially when you couple that with visual stimulation and physical exertion ie hiking/biking.
    Ahhh, dog-farts.....yes, good time to head in :-)

    With regard to wild animals, I'll be honest I was a little anxious my first night in a national forest (near Cloudcroft, NM). No one was anywhere near me and there had been mountain lion sightings recently so I got so in my head about it but it ended up being a beautiful, silent night.

    Anecdotal, but I remember visiting National Parks in the 1970s and there was a LOT of wild animal life. In 2010 I went to all of the NPs in continental USA and saw very few. I believe only those few animals that learned to co-exist with humans have survived. The rest are just gone. :(

    Kitty farts aren't much better. But doggie farts do make your eyes water. Ah the things we put up with from our kids. Great points on your "Dave's" top 10 list. Even when I was working from home during the pandemic it was great to just dress comfortably. Unfortunately I was laid off, as my boss was carrying my load, plus his, due to my below the knee amputation or BKA. Finally there came a point, where he really had to concentrate on his job, so another person was hired to take over my former position, as I still was not ready to come back to work. So for now I'm looking for a remote position until I can become strong enough to manage my prosthetic leg, or I get my wheelchair; so that I can work onsite. Recovery will take about another 6 months at a minimum but I have options at least. Once I get my prosthetic leg, and I'm comfortable with it, I'll be out on the trails getting stronger, until I fully recover. Being a contract PM (Project Manager or Program Manager) Project I have the flexibility to move around from company to company. Right now I'm working on my PMI PM Certificate, which should help me in the future. I wish you a wonderful holiday season. I look forward to your upcoming videos. Thanks

      So sorry to hear about all of that Brad! I hope you are able to recover and grow stronger quickly. The PM Certificate isn't easy, so good luck and wish you all the best. Happy Holidays!!

    Very useful info for starters Cass. My only problem is when I am planning a trip with my rv, you have to think of and organise tons of small things/jobs. And every single time, on the way, I have forgotten one or two things, I wanted to take with me or should have organized . And I hate going back even if it is not that far.
    Any solutions??😉

      Checklist! I have a list on my phone of items I bring into Michael's house that I have to remember to bring back out of the house when I leave.

    Dog farts are the worst, but then again, some people's farts rival them, so I don't know. Great video Cass.

    Would Lesson #11 be - Make sure Napoleon have a fireplace to chill by?

    • @TailsofWanderlust
      @TailsofWanderlust  Před 2 lety +1

      It might be! It would be make sure Napoleon has something warm and snuggly. If I put a Sherpa blanket in the Basecamp he wraps himself in it and lays there for hours.

    If you could do it all over, would you stick with the 16 or go to the 20? Or what would you choose if not one of those?

    • @TailsofWanderlust
      @TailsofWanderlust  Před 2 lety +1

      I wouldn't tow the 20 with the 4Runner. So with what I had, I would buy the 16 all over again. If I had a larger truck, would love to have the 20.

    Are you ever concerned for your safety? I’ve found that having less is really kind of a relief. When you’re boondocking what do you do for internet connection? Dog farts aside Jasper is a really cool dog!

    • @TailsofWanderlust

      I'm always on alert for safety and there are a few precautions I take, but overall I feel very safe traveling and boondocking. For internet, I use cell hotspots. Here's the full setup if you are interested: czcams.com/video/qL-92YB4JOg/video.html. Thanks for checking out several videos Mark!

    Great list! Dog farts…so funny. Have been sitting with 3 pupperonis this past week and have been forced out of my office on more than one occasion. They are so cute, though. I think it’s just their way of telling me it’s time for a break to go outside and play.

    I have for a few years been viewing these CZcams videos of people living in vans, Rv's and motorhomes. I believe that when one is not staying in the safety of campsites etc with the infrastructure provided then one is in survival mode.
    When not in a camp then water, dumping, power supply and being at risk of the nutters roaming
    out there are the challenges generating much unnecessary stress.
    I guess boondocking on the odd occasion when circumstances dictate is acceptable but no more than that.

    • @TailsofWanderlust
      @TailsofWanderlust  Před 2 lety

      I boondock 95% of the time, and many of these things are very manageable, especially with the proper planning and equipment.

    Have you ever been afraid for your pets?

    • @TailsofWanderlust
      @TailsofWanderlust  Před 2 lety

      Not at all. I keep them close and only let them outside if I'm with them.. There have been coyotes nearby but I make sure to keep an eye on them, and Jasper scares them off so they don't get close to Napoleon at all.
