Living on boats you learn what you actually use and what you think you will use……if I don’t use something after 3 months it goes. You learn to cook smarter and organize smarter……You’re very efficient
That 3 month rule is such a good idea!
Hi Cass- Great video as usual. I'm sure I've mentioned this before but I really appreciate how genuine you are. No fake fun, no false energy . Just you and what you really think. A huge departure from other presenters on CZcams. Glad to see you are still going strong. Keep going!!!
I'm so glad to hear that Brad, thank you very much!!! I try to just have fun with the videos and really glad they come off as authentic.
Love your videos, you give the best presentations. My heart warms up everytime I see Jasper's reflection in the mirror. What a sweet pup! Your kitty is adorable too!☺️ Looking forward to seeing your new videos with the truck camper. Happy Camping!
Thank you!!
You need a food grade water spray bottle for rinsing soapy dishes instead of running faucet water. Works incredibly well. Saves a ton of water when boondocking.
Great tip, thank you for sharing!
If your planning on buying a trailer to vacation or live in you have come to the right place!
Thanks for watching Mike!
Love your Revere-ware 😍. I have my grandparents (including two of those tiny pans) as well as the set my grandma gave me when I got married in 1989. It’s a great way to carry your family with you on your travels.
Love that you have your grandparents set! Amazing how long that stuff lasts for. Have you ever found any use for the tiny ones outside of butter melting?
@@TailsofWanderlust nope, butter melting is it, lol. They’re so stinking cute though!
Hahah! They are too cute
Hi from Tennessee. Great video. Thanks for the tour of the kitchen. You gave some good ideas. Thanks for sharing and have a great day.
Glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching Patricia!
That was an informative little video, thank you. Thank you I have been trying to find one of those pots. Now I know they are "Revere Wear"!
Thank you Tails of Wanderlust!!
You are welcome! Thanks for watching!
Wow, very efficient. I also have a cast iron pan. Two years ago I bought a 8 inch dutch oven. Useless in fire bans but enjoyable other times.
Enjoy your reno on the truck camper.
Thank you!
Thx for the detailed kitch tour. I totally agree w/the cast iron pan suggestion. My go to is a cast iron wok. Love mine.
Thanks for watching!
Love the design of that little trailer. Great layout and really like all the front window area to see out of when you're inside. Such a cozy little space. It'll be interesting to see how the truck camper compares and if you'll like it as much. Another great vid. Thanks
Really interested to see how they compare as well. Thanks for watching Brian!
Great video!
Thanks Debbie! Appreciate you watching!
Wow! You make a really great use of space! I thought that our Classic had a small kitchen! Probably the hardest thing for me is finding cookware that can fit into the microwave/convection oven combo. It’s so small!
Thanks Eden! It can be so tricky to find the right tiny living stuff at times!
Impressed with how much you’ve packed in that tiny kitchen!
Thanks Sandra!
I like cooking in cast iron, too…at home and at camp. I wanted to save fuel when I use cast iron on my 2-burner Coleman camp stove. So, I bought a LIFE by IKO lightweight cast iron skillet. All of the benefits of cast iron (including the ability to put it in an oven/campfire) but thinner, so it heats up faster. And, definitely easier to handle. I loved it so much, I started using it at home, too!
Oh interesting I didn't know those were out there. Thank you I'll check them out!
@@TailsofWanderlust I forgot to mention, I’ve had my skillet for about 3 years and use it almost everyday at home and everyday while car camping. It’s almost like new! I just treat it like any other normal cast iron cookware. It’s still in great condition.
I got mine at REI. I don’t think they sell them anymore. Which is crazy. I love this pan! But, I’m sure you can find one somewhere.
I tried searching for them online yesterday but doesn't seem like they are easy to come across. I saved it on Amazon so I'll check again later on and hopefully will be able to find one!
Once again Cass love how organized you are. Awesome video as usual. Thank you 🤗
Thanks Wes!
You are welcome Cass. Be happy, be safe 😁
Thanks again Dad.
He's the best!
Very organized! ❤️
Thanks for watching!
Great video Cass, always makes me think I really don't need that much stuff at home but I'm such a condiment and spices addict lol. Thanks for the tip on the knife sharpener too, will get that as I've always looked for a small one!
Hahah I'm with you on the condiments! Most of the door of my little refrigerator is just condiments.
@@TailsofWanderlust I also love trying new ones especially when traveling, do you still do that or less? you know like local hot sauces, spice mixes, etc.?
I'm with you on that! I try to get as much local at the grocery stores as I can in order to try them out
Brilliant video. It makes me want to go get a camper again. Nowadays I sleep light in my Renegade on Scout camps.
Car camping has its pros as well. Enjoy your trips this summer!
I didn’t see an easy-bake oven. for chocolate cake. Good to see you, Cass.
I really wish I could fit an oven in there. I miss brownies and cake and biscuits! Thanks for watching again Ruth.
Saving this one already 👍🏼🙏🏼
Glad to hear it, thanks for watching!
I have Revere-ware, too. You do a lot of cooking in that small space.
That's awesome! Revere-ware is the best.
That was like a guided home invasion . 😜
I'd like to tour someone's rig when they're not expecting it , see it in its lived in state . 😜
Haha! Definitely was cleaned up. For me at least, if you check out the day in a life it’s a bit more accurate reflection of normal state.
Fun!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks so much, Cass! A little sad watching the tour knowing the Basecamp has gone. :-( But you'll just have to do a new kitchen tour of the truck camper! I love cast iron, it's my go-to as well. Have a great weekend.
What happened to the base camp??
Just found the IG post that she sold it - such a cool rig! Looking forward to seeing the progress on the truck camper!
I definitely will! Hoping to use a lot of these learnings and really slim down what I carry in the truck camper. Enjoy your weekend as well!
I just sold it. Will have a video out on that in a few weeks!
Thanks Rachel!
Great vide
Great video thank you
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching!
We will miss the basecamp.
I'm with you, I'm missing it already. But really excited about the truck camper!
love the old revere ware was made close to my home
Oh too funny! We must be from a similar area then
@@TailsofWanderlust Yup good old CNY
That's the one!
Hi, I just love that intro music and want to hear the entire song. Any idea who it is? Thanks!
Hi Clif! Sadly I don't. I built that intro on a website service a while ago and I'm having a hard time finding it again
Hydroflask makes a wine container. It could help so when you travel wine bottles are not subject to breaking.
Ahh I'm going to have to look into that. Thanks Shekhar!
Then enters the tail...LOL
hahaha! Did you see him staring at the door? He just couldn't wait to go out on our hike.
@@TailsofWanderlust 🤣 Like my pup does!
Hi Cass - I enjoy your videos and have incorporated some of your tips in my own Basecamp. Have you ever tested out any of the power coolers on the market…like the Dometic portable cooler, to augment your food storage? I’m considering this for additional freezer space and wonder if you have any opinion on these units. Thanks, and keep the videos coming!
Hi Doug! I just received an IceCo cooler (in all transparency for free) and am testing that out. I never found I needed more cooler space in the Basecamp but think I will with the truck camper. Reason I agreed to the IceCo cooler is they have great reviews online, and are about half the cost. They have one on indiegogo right now (JP40 model). I've only used it a couple of times, but so far really enjoying it. It's keeping it on via a battery that I haven't quite figured out yet, or how much power it will pull in the long haul. I have a few friends with the Dometic cooler and they absolutely love it.
Wait - only one cup of coffee per day??? Just found your channel and I'm enjoying your adventures - thanks!
Welcome to the channel! Appreciate you checking out the videos!
Ok Cass, I have to ask. How in the world did you take out a chunk of thumb using the wine opener. I've got the same, or very similar one and have never gotten hurt. (that's not a judgement btw). Did you somehow get it caught in the teeth as you were prying the wings down? BTW, I think it's a brilliant idea using the bowl to catch gray water. But I never knew that there were places you weren't allowed to dump any water. Good to know. Thanks. The tuner, toner, knife thing 😍 is just a "sharpening rod".
You got it! When I was pulling down on the wings, somehow the middle of my thumb was pinched and took out a nice big chunk. Still have a big scar in the middle of it - crazy!
So unless you know something I don't which is entirely possible, I was always told you can dump grey water from bins or bowls but not from tanks. Bins and bowls are what campers use to wash their dishes etc. The problem with tanks as I understand it is they get stagnant and grow bacteria and smell as well as accumulate lots of gallons of water which can cause erosion, but from what I was told by the Rangers in Cali, and Arizona was you are free to dump bowls of water. Now if that is not the case how do you find out where it is OK and not OK?
You have that right on the bacteria growth and such! Although I have camped at some places which are very strict and have signs posted stating absolutely no water can be dumped. So I keep an eye out for those every time now.
I knew a boater who thought it would save fresh water to use his gray water to flush his toilet. It stank up his boat so bad he switched the plumbing back while still at sea.
What's your opinion on the propane cook top versus an induction cook top?
I've never used induction, so it's really hard to say. But I do love cooking on gas and using my cast iron. I don't know if the cast iron would work on induction?
@@TailsofWanderlust I had to google it. Cast iron does work on induction. The rule of thumb is: if a magnet will stick to your pan it’ll work. So aluminum pans won’t. Induction is also supposed to be far more efficient than electric cooktops. And I like that they don’t get hot, which I think would be good in small spaces. Especially for scenarios like taking the pan off and put a cutting board right on it for added counter space. But I agree that cooking with flame is my fave. 👍
Interesting! Very good to know, thanks for digging into that one!
I had a neighbor using induction and it worked great but when I looked into it I found it can't be used around my Pacemaker
@@raymondclark1785 Fascinating. I never would have thought of that. Thank goodness you researched it before using one.
Didn’t you sell the Trailer
I did. However, I'm taking a class for my Master's degree right now and don't have time to film. So on my last trip, I filmed ahead about 8 videos so I could just edit while I'm in class. Once those are done, I'll have a video on why I sold the Basecamp.
So is every video going to be sponsored now 🤔
Only until the end of April. Then the sponsorships will be over for awhile.
yo~ you made usefu lcontent,Tails,📽
Glad to hear that, thank you for watching!
