Football Manager can be an overwhelming game to jump into and it’s not just knowing how everything works. There is a whole way of understanding the theory of how to play FM that you just pick up through hours and hours of getting beaten up because your tactic is not balanced enough. That totally didn’t happen to me and I am not recounting a personal experience.
This video is designed to make you better at that theory part right now, so that when you finish watching it you will open up FM again and be better than before. There are so many parts of FM that won’t be in this video, but that is so I can make this video like 30 times and it will still be effective at helping people every time.

Based on experience, if the report says "they have a problem in dealing with long shots" and "they are the best team in the league against crosses", you will start your attacking midfielder with 18 long shot and have your tactics full on long shots while avoiding crossing.
The result: the player you started because of long shot will score a header after a cross in front of their best defender(in my case, my 16 years old wonderkid scoring against Virgil Van Dijk...)

In terms of finding out if someone's concerned about their playing time, I like to look at "Happiness" on dynamics page. It's colour coded, easier to spot at a glance who's pissed off about playing time.
I'm shocked that Zealand does not use that a lot more. Like that's exactly how the player feels about their playing time, not just looking at 2 lists and guessing if they'll be upset.
As soon as you set training to double intensity it’s almost like a cheat code… your average players get much better, unrealistically better in fact… it’s almost like the rest of the teams aren’t aware of it

Playing time agreements are the bane of my FM existence. It’s not that I can’t balance it out, it just eats up so much of my time, constantly checking dynamics to see who’s concerned about their playing time now, which sub-par, highly influential player I need to put on the pitch before he ruins my club by complaining to teammates, etc. In addition not all “concerned about playing time” indicators are the same, sometimes if the player is temperamental or distant with you, they’ll just constantly be concerned about their playing time, no matter what you do. Fortunately it doesn’t seem to do anything, but Ben White and Lokonga are giving me anxiety lol
@Jack Rhys Smith Huh that's weird, I never had any issues with Tierney, and this is my second Arsenal save lol (lost my first on a dead laptop). In general it's a fun save though, lots of young talent, not quite at the top yet so the players you sign really feel like club legends by the time you win the league or the UCL. Have fun!

Hey Zealand I have a great idea for a series for you. You should buy a mystery football kit and based on what team you get you should do a save with them so you could have an easy team like Man City or a hard team from a Thailand called Police Tero (that was definitely not a kit I got from them) and think it would be very interesting to see how thinks would go and even if you wanted to you could do it within a season deadline where you have maybe 5 seasons to try get as much success with a team and then after those 5 seasons buy another shirt and then try get that job or something like that I don’t know it’s just an idea but whatever team you’re playing with you have to wear their kit or else there will be consequences

Hey Zealand! Can you put your Dorfing tactic in some other place than Steam for those of us that didn't bought the game there? Because I heard that even if you press subscribe (actually I did it), it appears in your game tactics, you don't have the option to dl it, and since steam doesn't recognize the game if you bought it in some other place, well.. you'll never gonna find it in your game tactics.
If they can't fit into the squad by 20/21 years old then just be brutal and get rid, chances are they may hit potential at another club and be bought back. Like for instance I got Konate for cheap cause he was not being played at liverpool. Had him for a season and sold him to Real for 40 mil, they barely played him and got him back in Jan for 25 mil. Same happened for Roko Simic the croat striker. Can game the market and make a profit for your club while retaining the players you want
I play in Romanian championship. There I have a under 21 rule . I suppose to have 2 players under 21 in my first 11 . Is it possible to remove that rule ?

A tip is go through the list of players the top teams release and offer them all a trial a few might have some stars who'll play for you. Look for an affiliate to get some free loans.
Been playing fm for 20 years. Have never took over training. Probably never will. Thats what my coaching staff is for.
It’s actually insanely important. Definitely a grind to learn and set up every week of training, but the differences are massive, especially with youth development, so many of my youth products have seen an improvement in form, and I haven’t even instituted the youth development training Zealand recommended (yet, I’m still working on learning how to set up training for one squad, 2 or 3 would be way too much work, but someday. .)
Have you ever done a video on match load? I constantly get players come to me saying they should be playing more when its not physically possible to do so. If I play them with heavy match load they might get injured or mostly they just play bad during a game.

What is the best way to start converting dominance? So many times i will out shoot a team by double or more than double but still either struggle to win or lose the game. Is it just FM being FM where i can have 24 shots to their 8 and draw 1-1 or is there a key way to change it? i have tried tactics, roles, training etc. and it doesnt seem to help. I batter most teams i play, especially at home but rarely am sat at 3-0 feeling comfortable i'll get a result.

@@defeatstatistics7413 i have switched from attacking to positive and now balanced over the course of 4 seasons. I’m doing well and win most games in the end but stats wise feel i should be a lot more comfortable or winning the games i draw
It sounds like you’ve already tried a lot, but it could be your players, some are just more clinical than others, and likewise some roles are just more effective in terms of shots per goal. Same with tactics, you could have Lewandowski up front but if you’re feeding him poor opportunities, the chances you get aren’t going to be high quality, well, maybe with Lewandowski, but most of time they’ll be low xG shots.
@@Flash4ML yeah makes sense. Its just frustrating to watch at times. My striker will score 4/5 goals in a 6-0 win and then next game i’ll treble the other teams shots, have more possession an xG of 3 and scrape a 1-0 or draw 1-1. Not sure if its just the way the game goes at times or if i can improve it. See a lot of times too where i’ll have 20 odd shots but 5 on target. Not expecting to win every game but would like to be a bit more comfortable in games.

About playing time one piece of advice: NEVER, for any reason, set STAR PLAYER as a playing time. That will mean that the player expects to be playing in every single game. Yes, even if he's unfit.
I guess so, unless the player is unwilling to sign for you, if he isnt considered a star player and the transfer is very important for the team
@@claytonhentschel9859 Even then, just promise him star player, then as soon as he arrives change it to Important. New players rarely kick up a fuss. Or wait until next summer if that fails

It’s an important thing to keep in mind, especially for players who don’t do smaller clubs, rising through the leagues and watching their star players become ineffective in a few seasons. Nothing wrong with emphasizing it, personally what he said about youth development is making me reconsider my policy of only signing foreign U-21s with 4.5 stars of potential and looking more in depth at the players’ personalities and such. When you can only sign six foreign U-21s a season you have to be choosy, so previously I was only going for the 4.5/5 star potential players

Quick question regarding individual training!
Can I train a group of similar players, such as CMs and CFs the same, but ask them to play different roles in the matches!
For instance, all 4 CFs train as Complete Forwards/Attack, but are asked to perform as either DLF and/or AF in matches? Same with CMs, they train as Centre Midfielders/Support, but are asked to be any number of CM roles in matches!
My thinking is that more is covered in training and may produce a wider range of individual improvements! And hopefully producing more flexible players!
Yes role training can be different then role selection for matches. Role training simply emphasizes the highlighted attributes more
When I go to data hub and next opponent I only get an overview of how they’ve done against top half of the table teams and bottom half I don’t get the tactical stuff
This is probably because you have few or poor data analysts.

Why does my 24 yo striker says he has 5 star potential despite him never leaving the 4 star potential for over 2 seasons? Am i doing something wrong? Or his stats just aren't good enough?
I bought the player for 60 million, i thought he was insane, but he has scored goals and can't pass through the 4 star potential

Mate you said it yourself, he is 24 now, his growth will slow down to almost nothing now.
Stats > stars
If the rest of your team is getting better around him and his stars aren’t dropping, that’s ok! It means he actually is improving!
The stars aren’t important. Pay attention to his stats and how he’s performing in training, what he’s doing on the pitch, how many shots he’s taking, where he’s taking them from, etc. The star rating can be very deceptive, especially if your team is improving, since it will shift according to the top talents in your team. For example, I signed Benjamin Sesko and Lorenzo Lucca and they both scored a goal a game until December, displaying 4 star ratings when at the beginning of the season they were 3-star and 2.5-star players respectively. As a result of their explosive form, the rest of my team declined in star rating, with some 3-star players dipping down to 2.5, etc. They weren’t declining in ability, in fact most of them were getting even better as a result of Sesko and Lucca’s achievements, but in terms of reputation (which is what star rating represents) nothing can compete with scoring lots of goals. And in turn, when Sesko was injured for a few weeks and stopped scoring every game, he quickly reverted to a 3-star player. That opened my eyes to how easily star rating is manipulated and how little faith you should put into it

Can anyone please tell me how to stop losing steam at the end? Playing at Barcelona. Playing really really well. 3 back to back trebles and an invincible season. But I have noticed my players just don't play as well in the 2nd half of the league season. I thought it was just game pressure and too many matches. But after getting off that ridiculous run I have struggled to get to 90-100 points in the league again. Usually get 45-50 in the 1st half and 30-35 in the next. Still a lot of points, but Atletico Madrid have become gods in the league, so this isn't enough. With such a banging start to the save, don't really want it to fizzle out.

@@ryanergo754 this year they nerfed high pressing so it affects your players particularly at the end. Maybe have a low intensity tactic you can switch to if you're comfortable

I desperately wanna start FM after recently discovering Zealand. but fuck. this game is so intimidating and overwhelming just to create a save.
it really isn't, the beauty of the game is that you CAN go into lots of detail but you DON'T have to. For example training and scouting can all be done by your staff, and then you take it over when you are comfortable. Just get into the game, you will enjoy.
Like the other guy said…you don’t need to go too deep to play the game! You can use half of the screens and play, you can also automate chunks of the game by utilising your staff and their roles. Alternatively try playing on mobile or console to start with…it’s basically FM Lite!
Just take it easy and start with what you are comfortable with. I began playing fm20 when it was free on Epic and to this day I still play it. Also, I don't do training for instance because I don't know how and I don't want players to come to me saying training is bad or is too much. Start easy like some teams with great budget and infrastructure like Man Utd or Chelsea and go from there to Ajax or Salzburg type of teams before you try to take some lower league teams to CL glory.
Start with a team your most familiar with in real life and enjoy.their is alot to learn and things to set up but pick one thing to focused on in a game week and get a good understanding
This isn't a specific issue with FM honestly, alot of games take me a good few attempts to actually get into. I think the issue was as I was starting a new file, I opened the advanced setting rather then quick start and my brain just didn't know where to concentrate. I'll get their eventually!! Especially now I have discovered this channel, seems it could help me alot

Yeah when you make an entire series dedicated to training, it makes sense to actually use it to help people out. Because believe it or not, complicated FM systems can’t be summarized in little ten-minute tip videos. He can give out small tips like the specific role training, but to get the full scoop on training you’ll need to watch more videos. How the hell is that “yikes?”

1- Ignore the stars. All of them.
2- Scouting priorities are only required in break glass situations. You'll get reports back quick enough.
3- Your training is no longer the most effective. See Evidence Based FM youtube video on training.
4- An effective tactic would all but nullify any need to look at the data hub on a game by game basis.

1- That’s what he’s saying, that star rating is very much not everything.
2- Not the case. When you only get wind of a possible new signing halfway through the window or when you’re wonderkid hunting and need to scout out their potential, the scouting priorities panel is extremely important. If you’re getting reports back quickly enough then you don’t have many players on your radar.
3- There are so many possibilities with training it’s impossible to prove what the “most effective” training regime is. There are many good training guides, and Zealand’s is one of them.
4- And yet the need to min-max marches on. Additionally, if you’re playing a save where all you need to win matches is a loaded tactic, then by all means ignore the data hub. Some of us just like to, you know, play the game.
5- Not for newer players, who are the target audience.
6- Not sure what you’re even on about here, I’ll let you have this one I guess.
In conclusion, you’re not very good at criticizing, maybe just leave the video if you don’t think the tips are helpful?
