This game on Switch is running at 30fps with drops. There's no reason for that. I recently got Doom Eternal on Switch from LRG and that game is running at a smooth 30 with no hiccups that I've noticed so far and it's rendering A TON more stuff than this game. So that means there's no excuse this game is 30fps and stuttery.
I totally agree, yesterday I played on the switch, they should focus on the game running smooth even if they have to sacrifice graphics a little bit. Also I felt very strange the controls, normal bullets hit Me and was hard to avoid. I think there is something strange with the controls.
I played it on Switch and ps4 and the differences were very noticeable. Most of which were frame rates and input lag along with some audio issues as well. The input lag on the switch is very noticeable though. I would be amazed if the performance on the ps5 was less than that of the ps4.
Theres a lot of people disagreeing with his views, i totally agree with him. I played through the demo on the PS4, and the hiccups and freezes are sadly there as well. They only show up in STORY MODE, but during the vertical climb, I can count 4-5 times I would start a jump and the whole game would hiccup/freeze and I'd end up dead since the jump was off.
Hit box is off as well, especially with the flame thrower weapon. I had the same issues with input lag or no response that caused some deaths. The game looks really good though.
My first impression of the graphics in the game is that it looks like one of those typical mobile games that aren't worth your time. Wish they stuck to 2D artwork

Unreal Engine 4 games on the Switch are notorious for stuttering and sudden chugging frame rates for no particular reason. The Link's Awakening remake is a notorious example of this. I'm not sure what engine this game is using but I wouldn't be surprised to find out that is what is powering it.

RGT is right. Something very wrong with framerate / frame pacing. It fills like 30 fps + delayed controls. The game is unenjoyable on the switch. I don't think that they can ever fix this.
I wonder if the graphics are compromised on the Nintendo Switch, like the new MK1's graphics were. I'd be more up for a review on Steam, Xbox or Playstation. I do agree the graphics could be better in this day and age. Like modernising it in the style for Streets if Rage 4 or keeping it retro like TMNT Shredder's revenge or Blazing Chrome. Ps. Ha!, Smelly gamers are a thing, back in the 90s I def had to plug my nose if front of MK2 in the arcade machine.
That seems more like a freeze than a frame rate issue. Also I still can't understand why four years later Zelda Links Awakening Remake drops to half the frame rate every minute or so.
I was so happy to enjoy Contra on Switch, and like you, I couldnt play 30 seconds in those atrocious conditions! Damn when I think of Contra on MD and SNES, Konami went down like never

Also I felt very strange the controls, normal bullets hit
Me and was hard to avoid. I think there is something strange with the controls.
I played the demo on Switch and PS5. I didn't notice any difference.
Glasses my friend I also played the demo on both and was nice on the ps5
I played it on Switch and ps4 and the differences were very noticeable. Most of which were frame rates and input lag along with some audio issues as well. The input lag on the switch is very noticeable though. I would be amazed if the performance on the ps5 was less than that of the ps4.
Say sike please
Ran really well for me on the Switch. Docked as well.
I ran the demo on an overclocked switch, still does not run well. I don't know how you say it runs well.
@@caliburnblade7895 I recommend blazing chrome as an Contra alternative.
Finished the demo on PS5, man I am too young to remember properly to the OG Contra games, yet it felt so nostalgic 😅
Theres a lot of people disagreeing with his views, i totally agree with him. On the switch, the demo suffers from lag in hand-held mode, and platforming doesn't feel good, you are not being harsh l would say pretty accurate description of this laggy crap, on switch hand-held demo anyway, ill try it on ps5 if theres a demo
Wow. This is a shocker. I downloaded the demo and I loved it. I cannot wait to get my hands on the physical copy.
Well, it just goes to show that you can’t please everybody. RGT, you’re entitled to your opinion. I’ll just enjoy the game on my own. But thanks for sharing your thoughts. 🙂
Litterally change the clickbait negative title. I just played the Demo on Switch and didnt have a single issue. Played flawlessly
It plays at 30 fps locked, that is a major issue and a broken game period in 2024
@chiquita683 Hard disagree. Go get on your PC Master Race console. While I enjoy playing this game in a car, on a plane, out camping, etc etc etc
I played through the demo on the PS4, and the hiccups and freezes are sadly there as well.
They only show up in STORY MODE, but during the vertical climb, I can count 4-5 times I would start a jump and the whole game would hiccup/freeze and I'd end up dead since the jump was off.
I hope the final version is fixed was looking foward to this one
frame rate karen smh
Framerate is essencial.
Hit down and do it loudly enough that the button press is audible and then look at the screen whilst doing so. What you’re seeing is input lag
I wish they would have done good art. 2D or 3D is not the key issue. Key issue is that the art / design… is bad. Just horrible
"So... which one of you is Contra? Is it me? Am I the Contra? Oh, I hope I'm the Contra!" ~Dorkly
Sounds like you added Auto-tune to your voice at 7:39 when you said "I'll update it later" RGT 😂
Good looks RTG! It was one of the few games from the showcase that actually peaked my interest and now I know I’ll just wait and see what reviewers say about this game upon full release and maybe wait to hear how it fairs with any new patches.
BREAKING NEWS! :
- Hi-Fi rush is coming to PS5 on March 19th
- at a cheaper price than the Xbox version WITH a physical copy (Xbox closed their physical gaming department)
- Xbox players basically Beta tested this game and barely anyone on the Xbox side bought the game
- the complete patched version of hi-fi rush is coming to ps5 with haptic feedbacks and later on VR capabilities!
- more games coming to PlayStation/Nintendo faster then we expected!
- grounded and pentiment announced on Nintendo switch direct
I thought there were weird delays as well. I hope the actual game doesn't have these issues 🤞
Unreal Engine 4 games on the Switch are notorious for stuttering and sudden chugging frame rates for no particular reason. The Link's Awakening remake is a notorious example of this. I'm not sure what engine this game is using but I wouldn't be surprised to find out that is what is powering it.
Its Unity (I worked on it)
I am disappointed in RGT. I may unsubscribe. I just downloaded the demo on my son's Nintendo. I noticed when I play normally, I got the stutters but on Game Mode on my modern Samsung 4K tv it runs flawlessly! Stop misleading people RGT! Shame on you! I will definitely buy it on the physical cartridge by Limited run.
It runs flawlessly on Game Mode on my modern Samsung 4K tv. I just played the demo. Zero stutters! Lies. He may be playing on regular tv mode. I played the Switch demo.
This is one of the very few times I dont agree with you. RGT you are wrong about this game. The game is fine the problem is you.(I do know nothing is perfect and things can always be improved) Try looking at all the controls before you review a game, which obviously you didnt do this time.
Thats how they prone in the original game...
Is this actually stage 1??? ... Or is it the first three stages combined into one for the demo???
Can somebody answer this???!!!
Well its a long stage...it combines the first 3 bosses from Contra1...so yea your kinda right.
Does UP UP DOWN DOWN LEFT RIGHT LEFT RIGHT B A START still work? 🤔
There are frame rate issues but nothing that really has ruined it for me. I agree that with games like hollow knight, Metroid dread, or prince of persia running so well, wayforward can do better.
But you know what isn't a disaster, old faithful RGT
Did you play pop the lost crown?
I don’t know why people buy things on the switch still. I feel like that’s the console the developers are always like “eh; it “works”. Send it.” I get it’s portable but just never worth it.
Because we like our NSWs and don't have the money to own other consoles. 😛
I use the switch for retro gaming mostly, but you're correct. It's always a joke here.
I downloaded the demo while watching this, and played through the story mode and didn’t experience these problems only 1 hiccup. I was thinking did they patch the demo?? Then after beating it went over to arcade and bam all the problems. Weird how story mode runs mostly fine and arcade doesn’t of the exact same level
I'm an OG Hardcore Contra Fan... I'm buying this game I don't care if the controls suck lol... I'll manage...
RGT I know you talked about it before. Would like to see you do a review on the Tomb Raider game.
I can tell you now the ducking animation has already been improved, it has that extra frame you are asking for.
I was watching Regular Show earlier, and I realised that RGT reminds me of Rigby. Is SpawnWave Mordecai?
RGT85 are you doing a video on battlefront
The title should be
“Angry man identifies as smelly old woman who hates Switch versions of games” 🤣🤣
Everybody's favorite Nintendo CZcamsr
Switch Struggling with a 2D game 😬
Thanks for saying this! I was reading all but misleading reviews and comments… gosh good to see I’m not the only one.
The frame rate that just him hating on a demo because I play the demo and I didn’t have the frame rate Issue on my switch
Do you play the demo because he’s really bad at video games and his opinion is irrelevant (he is literally losing in the first minute of the game) There’s nothing wrong with it go played for yourself
@@michaeldietz2648 I played the demo and completed it on my first run. Besides the frame rate, it feels like a cheap mobile game
@@BetoZayasGaoking is the general look of the game. It feels cheap. Blazing Chrome is still better than any other modern Contra after SNES
Is this game getting a physical release on day 1 or digital only?
Physical on Limited Run Games, preorder starts tomorrow. I just heard digital only in a box day one but not sure which retailer will have it.
@@-RH80- bummer, i hate limited run
@@JBird401 yea, the game release digital next month, so their physical copy could take around a year for the standard version and 2 years for the collectors edition.
@@-RH80- Limited Fun

As an old school Contra fan, I was hoping for redemption. Konami should have hired Treasure.
download the demo on ps4 or 5 or PC still have preformance issues ?
PC demo runs fine, no issues that I noticed
Played the demo on switch and ps4. There is a noticeable difference. Not only frame rate issues on the switch but I also had some obvious input lag on the switch. It's still playable but the experience was a better one on the ps4, for me at least.
I thought it was very irresponsible that they gave you a flamethrower weapon while the jungle was on fire...
I did have drops on mine, caused me to die a few times at the waterfall part. I’m excited for this though but might get on PlayStation.
Tetris, Mario, and Contra were the games I started with as a child
i played this on steam earlier today, same results, the stutter/janky screen, the sprites, etc, it feels a lil mobile like kinda like contra evolution back in 2010-11, while that was fun, its the same exactly feel. im gonna buy this game but theres alot that needs worked on in the future.
I'm confused. Yesterday you were hyped about retromania, and that looked way worse than this game.
RGT is right. Something very wrong with framerate / frame pacing. It fills like 30 fps + delayed controls. The game is unenjoyable on the switch. I don't think that they can ever fix this.
Runs smooth as butter on Steam Deck.
There's no reason for this not to run at 60fps on Switch.
It looks like this on all platforms
I have no issues at all. Play like contra
That seems more like a freeze than a frame rate issue. Also I still can't understand why four years later Zelda Links Awakening Remake drops to half the frame rate every minute or so.
"A smelly old woman such as myself"- RGT 85 2024
I was so happy to enjoy Contra on Switch, and like you, I couldnt play 30 seconds in those atrocious conditions! Damn when I think of Contra on MD and SNES, Konami went down like never
Thank you for the Nintendo news on your Nintendo channel.
DUDE you watch rgt too?! Haha
Should have went with a pixel art style with SNES or Genesis graphics. The 2.5D style just kills the Contra Vibe.
Not the biggest fan of this. But this is 22 years old. And looks better imo.
czcams.com/video/TpTKlVJ1cBU/video.htmlsi=zVjfF9uxYoY_aQpS
Very different style. Anime stylized. Still AGAIN looks better than this new game. And again older.
So for me they simply totally messed up the art direction in this new one.

PS5 demo does not have these issues, stable smooth framerate and no frames missing when crouching.
Had the same experience. No excuses anymore after seeing how well Prince of Persia ran and looked on the Switch. Clean 60fps even in handheld. I mean if they (Ubisoft) can port that game so well why can't Way forward so the same on this? Fingers crossed the Demo was just a 2 week beta and the release is at least 2x better!
They should just give it the streets of rage 4 animation treatment with inhanced explosion and sound effects.
