This sounds like it'll be like Ys 8 where the actions link takes in the rift will help Zelda in the overworld. Like when going back in time as Dana helped her and Adol's party in the present.

It most likely is just for the beginning but the idea of following link through the rifts at certain points of Zelda’s adventure here is a possibility too until Nintendo confirms whether that rating is just the intro or not or maybe Nintendo will just let us find out like how we found out how big the depths truely was until totk came out.
I think there will be a short playable sequence at the beginning leading up to that scene from the trailer and until that point you play as Link but only briefly the rest is Zelda but maybe Link is used in the final boss battle to somehow no where else though this is Zelda's time
Guaranteed Link is playable. I’d guess that Link is playable at the beginning. Possibly in the middle, and very likely at the end in some kind of powered up version to end Ganon.

I love the DIY ethic for working on one's own toys and tools - whether it's cars, electronics,, skateboards, snowboards, or musical instruments. The ability to work on one's own vehicle is especially awesome. I personally have only gotten to the point of doing some very basic maintenance on my car - the only thing holding me back from doing more for it and is having limited time and energy due to work. It's so much better to have my own hands under the hood instead of someone I'm paying to do it.

yeah its like they've gone out of their way to make him more prominent on the box art. I'd be surprised if they don't play it safe and have him playable in some form

It makes sense, they have done the light world/dark world thing a few times in these games. Especially since this game seems to be in the link to the past Hyrule, it could be a similar mechanic where what’s done in the dark effects the light.

On hindsight we should have known based on the game art shown in the Nintendo Direct. There's link with a sword ready to battle. No point of him being there armed and ready if he just disappeared for good or was waiting to be saved by Zelda.
I kind of got the impression that you'd play as Link for at least the beginning, kind of like how in the beginning of TotK Zelda is there with you. It's mostly just cut scenes, but you do get to play a little bit. Then for the rest of the game you're on your own.
But on a serious note, technically the original Zelda games were linear, the very first literally had the dungeons numbered.. but the world was open, and you could pretty much do most of them in any order. For the SNES yes you had to get the three pendants first before you could get the master sword then do the dark world dungeons, and yes they suggested an order to get those pendants, but you didn't really need to follow that order, and you could do most of the dark world dungeons out of 'order ' as well

I know they aren’t doing that but man that would be awesome! I would definitely buy both lol
Y'know, that's an interesting concept, I hadn't even considered Link would have the potential to be an unlockable character for the story, would be cool to have 2 playable characters, and maybe 2 player online co-op in the future if the game sells well. Hopefully this is the case, cause I'm all for multiple playable characters in Zelda. It's why I still play Age of Calamity.
This is how I wanted Tears of the Kingdom to be programmed, with part of the game played as Link and part played as Zelda. It’s a shame they waited to utilize that concept for this game. I would’ve enjoyed exploring the past Hyrule with Zelda in Tears more than whatever this game is going to offer.
Before I even watch this, I was thinking it would be cool to have a dark world we’re you play as link and switching back and forth to solve puzzles etc
Maybe it will be almost GTA5 like, in that with a hit of a button you can swap between Zelda and Link and wherever they are in their different locations across their different planes of existence. That could be amazing.

Even though I would want your idea of using link and Zelda separately between different worlds, I understood that line as a way of saying that “in past games of the legend of Zelda you used link fighting with sword and shield” not that you would use link in any way, shape or form in this game but again I hope your idea ends up being true
I still not giving up on the idea that, maybe ... Zelda will get a Link Echo in some way. And, he'll be utilized like Gooigi in Luigi's Mansion (allowing the player to summon it and interchange between player control and CPU).
I bet you they're going to pull a Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Play as Link to "defeat" Ganon in the intro, then once you beat the game as Zelda you unlock Link Mode. Bonus if Link gets corrupted and you have to fight him to undo the brainwashing.
I play Zelda games to be Link with a sword, not a girl with a wand. A lot of fans who don’t like the new direction of the 3d games were holding out hope for a new, original 2d title. This game looks like a 2d botw without Link…no thanks Nintendo, you keep it.
I think that the Link portion could simply be the beginning of the game. You play Link leading up to Ganon, fighting him in the beginning of the game with Link at his full power. Then he will fall into that void in the beginning of the trailer, then from there you will play Zelda in the other 99% of the game.

Well it looks like you start out as Link and do that battle with Ganon. But it would be cool if they team up at some point. Maybe he's trapped in the rift and only she can move between worlds, but he gets to help her with bosses in the rift.
I am very excited about Echoes Of Wisdom, and it might make me buy a Switch Lite just for the Zelda edition. You probably play as Link at the very beginning of the game like we saw in the trailer.
That would be kind of effed up, no way it's going to happen. I think there will short segments with Link as the playable character, helps with Zelda summoning play style not getting stale.
i think i knew right after i was done watching the trailer during the direct that you will be able to play as link but like in the trailer i think you’ll be able to play as link at the very beginning of the game and then after that little boss fight in the trailer that’s when the game switches up on you and goes straight to zelda gameplay and now zelda’s gotta save link
It would be so nice to have the possibility to start the game again and completely redo the adventure with Link, I think I will directly download the save from someone who has already finished the game to start directly with Link. Even if it bears the princess name, Link is the true and only face of the Zelda games so I could never do without our favorite Hylian protagonist in a game from the main saga.
Just a theory- you play as Zelda in normal hyrule, and as Link in the rift/dark world? Link perhaps beats the rift areas to clear the path for Zelda on her side?
I mean yeah you see you are Link at the beginning of the trailer doing the usual fight against Ganon in a dungeon. It's possible you can play as Link in the other world he has fallen into but I think the game is majority you playing as Zelda. There was fan speculation from the TOTK trailers when Link and Zelda are separated, that Link would do his thing on the surface and we would occasionally control Zelda in the underworld she fell into... maybe they took inspiration from that, but reversed character situations around for this game.
One thing I see no one talking about that looks pretty obvious to me. Think back to link's awakening and a game feature that didn't really hit the mark. The dungeon maker. It sucked that you only had preset rooms to connect. Now look at this games main mechanic. Placing items/furniture/enemies. They could easily update the dungeon maker to where you can actually play as zelda making the dungeon and then use Link to play it.
I like the Ocarina style... it's linear but honestly not that linear. You need the bow but you can kind of slip to water or fire afterward. Technically didn't need either to do the Shadow dungeon... but need a lot of things to do the Sand dungeon. So if you replay the game you can do things in different orders... there's mild exploration in the world between all the dungeons and it feels like there's a balance.
So it makes sense to hide this some, think about TotK where the Depths was NEVER mentioned or showed until release, I said from the first trailer I bet there will be more Link than what was shown. I am very excited for this game!
I like that idea - while you're above ground with Zelda, Link in that dark dimension fighting and maybe it can be a kind of thing like an area that's blocked because of something with a rift, gets fixed when he does something allowing Zelda to pass an area that's blocked.

This game probably starts playing as Link, but it wouldn't surprise me if you get to rescue him somewhere in the middle of the game and then have the ability to swap between Link and Zelda.
You will probably play as link in the opening seconds of the game. I don't think the Ganon fight in the start of the game is just going to be one big cutscene but instead the tutorial.
Maybe you start out as Zeldq buy then at certain points you will take control of link to help zelda solve puzzles and help clear the way forward for Zelda and vice versa.

I read the Link statement as a comparison that in other Link games, you shoot arrows but in this game Zelda has X abilities.

I think Link has a 50/50 chance of either being a side story or a summon, if he is an Echo we likely need an echo for his sword and shield as well.

In these rifts you could play as Link and fight previous bosses like ALTtP... Phantom Gannons from OOT... bosses that all you need is a bow and sword... but I guess we'll see
Even though I would want your idea of using link and Zelda separately between different worlds, I understood that line as a way of saying that “in past games of the legend of Zelda you used link fighting with sword and shield” not that you would use link in any way, shape or form in this game but again I hope your idea ends up being true
I still not giving up on the idea that, maybe ... Zelda will get a Link Echo in some way. And, he'll be utilized like Gooigi in Luigi's Mansion (allowing the player to summon it and interchange between player control and CPU).
Maybe Zelda can throw important items into rift for Link to use so they can help each other to progress.
I bet you they're going to pull a Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Play as Link to "defeat" Ganon in the intro, then once you beat the game as Zelda you unlock Link Mode. Bonus if Link gets corrupted and you have to fight him to undo the brainwashing.
I play Zelda games to be Link with a sword, not a girl with a wand. A lot of fans who don’t like the new direction of the 3d games were holding out hope for a new, original 2d title. This game looks like a 2d botw without Link…no thanks Nintendo, you keep it.

I think that the Link portion could simply be the beginning of the game. You play Link leading up to Ganon, fighting him in the beginning of the game with Link at his full power. Then he will fall into that void in the beginning of the trailer, then from there you will play Zelda in the other 99% of the game.

I wonder if this will be similar to LoZ: Spirit Tracks, when you played as Zelda when her spirit inhabited the suits of armor.
Well it looks like you start out as Link and do that battle with Ganon. But it would be cool if they team up at some point. Maybe he's trapped in the rift and only she can move between worlds, but he gets to help her with bosses in the rift.

I am very excited about Echoes Of Wisdom, and it might make me buy a Switch Lite just for the Zelda edition. You probably play as Link at the very beginning of the game like we saw in the trailer.
It could be that you get the ability to summon a copy of link and take control of him.
That would be kind of effed up, no way it's going to happen. I think there will short segments with Link as the playable character, helps with Zelda summoning play style not getting stale.
i think i knew right after i was done watching the trailer during the direct that you will be able to play as link but like in the trailer i think you’ll be able to play as link at the very beginning of the game and then after that little boss fight in the trailer that’s when the game switches up on you and goes straight to zelda gameplay and now zelda’s gotta save link

It would be so nice to have the possibility to start the game again and completely redo the adventure with Link, I think I will directly download the save from someone who has already finished the game to start directly with Link.
Even if it bears the princess name, Link is the true and only face of the Zelda games so I could never do without our favorite Hylian protagonist in a game from the main saga.
Just a theory- you play as Zelda in normal hyrule, and as Link in the rift/dark world? Link perhaps beats the rift areas to clear the path for Zelda on her side?
I mean yeah you see you are Link at the beginning of the trailer doing the usual fight against Ganon in a dungeon. It's possible you can play as Link in the other world he has fallen into but I think the game is majority you playing as Zelda. There was fan speculation from the TOTK trailers when Link and Zelda are separated, that Link would do his thing on the surface and we would occasionally control Zelda in the underworld she fell into... maybe they took inspiration from that, but reversed character situations around for this game.
I figured Link would be somewhat playable. It was giving me Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart vibes from the trailer.
One thing I see no one talking about that looks pretty obvious to me. Think back to link's awakening and a game feature that didn't really hit the mark. The dungeon maker. It sucked that you only had preset rooms to connect. Now look at this games main mechanic. Placing items/furniture/enemies. They could easily update the dungeon maker to where you can actually play as zelda making the dungeon and then use Link to play it.
I like the Ocarina style... it's linear but honestly not that linear. You need the bow but you can kind of slip to water or fire afterward. Technically didn't need either to do the Shadow dungeon... but need a lot of things to do the Sand dungeon. So if you replay the game you can do things in different orders... there's mild exploration in the world between all the dungeons and it feels like there's a balance.
The start of the game you play as Link probably, then once He gets trapped in the rift, you take over as Zelda.

So it makes sense to hide this some, think about TotK where the Depths was NEVER mentioned or showed until release, I said from the first trailer I bet there will be more Link than what was shown. I am very excited for this game!
I like that idea - while you're above ground with Zelda, Link in that dark dimension fighting and maybe it can be a kind of thing like an area that's blocked because of something with a rift, gets fixed when he does something allowing Zelda to pass an area that's blocked.

Dude the trailer shows you playing as link. I imagine you start the game with Link and then you play as Zelda for the rest. I doubt you'll get to play as link in the rifts since he's limited to just arrows and a sword... but it would be interesting.
This game probably starts playing as Link, but it wouldn't surprise me if you get to rescue him somewhere in the middle of the game and then have the ability to swap between Link and Zelda.
You will probably play as link in the opening seconds of the game. I don't think the Ganon fight in the start of the game is just going to be one big cutscene but instead the tutorial.
Maybe you start out as Zeldq buy then at certain points you will take control of link to help zelda solve puzzles and help clear the way forward for Zelda and vice versa.

I wouldn't overread what it means to be in the ESRB, it could even just reference the introduction due to how that works. It's not really a leak in that sense.
