Great recipe! I used kiwis instead of pears and it was very tender.
I don't know why, but I keep watching cooking videos before going to bed now.
Yeah likewise, strange huh?
Dan NZ same with me
slash slash Maybe we all have delicious dreams :)
😂😂😂 me too
TheLobstersoup That's me 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Hi, everybody, thank you very much for your encouraging comments!

💖
Super
@lingaseb at a Korean grocery store. Check the recipe on my website. Written recipe, photos, and tips are posted. Thank you!
@lilswtangel My friend bought it for me when we went to a Korean festival event in Toronto 2 years ago. It was under $3.00! Check either Korean grocery store or Japanese store.
Hi Maangchi! i just made this for my family tonight. It was marinated overnight, and the taste is heavenly!! we all agreed no more korean restaurant Galbi for us. It's much cheaper to make this at home :) Happy happy. Thank you for your recipe :)
Thank you so much for your interest in my videos! Cheers!
@lilswtangel Thank you very much! 2 years! I'm sure you checked my website. : )
I provided the most delicious marinade recipe for Korean bbq that I have developed so far, but as I mentioned in the video, you can grill, pan-fried, or broil and charcoal grill. Charcoal bbq is the best. You can do some experiments. Come to my home on the internet and talk about your questions and thoughts with my other readers!
@TheMochaProductions yes, check out my website. I have posted a few rice cake recipes on my website.
yes, I think most pears would work well as long as they are soft ripe.
Are the pears making the short ribs tender? I did mine without adding the pears. And it came out tough. I bought the ribs from Korean supermarket. Any suggestions on how to make it tender?
I made a version of this today
1/3c mirin
1/3c soy sauce
1/4c brown sugar substituted for the honey I thought I had and didnt.
black pepper
2 teaspoons sesame oil
2 small pears
1 onion
8 cloves of garlic
a chunk of ginger
a pound and a half of top round roast sliced 1/4 inch
I let it marinade for about 4 hours then grilled it over a charcoal hibachi
I didn't have all the side dishes soi made due with Jasmine rice, some grilled mushrooms and green onion. i used sambal sauce and wrapped it in romaine lettuce. it was amazing even though it was pretty much improvised. I could only imagine how much better it would be with the full on experience.
@EvannRachel in 3 weeks! I know how you feel now. Keep in touch! Visit my website and meet others who love Korean food. Check the forum.
@oekakinin This marinade could be used for bulgogi, too. Can you slice your flank steak thinly? If you use thick steak, it may turn out too tough.
if you rub a little vegetable oil on the sides of your measuring cup, the honey doesn't stick. It just pours out ^_^
Wow you are really clever!
Non-stick spray it basically just oil.
^_^
Or if you measure out sesame oil first? :D
I like her finger better!
I make this about once a month, my family loves it!! I just need to get your cookbook. Next I'm going to make your Kimchee. I love watching your videos, they're very easy to follow. Happy New Year!!
+Teresa Thompson Thank you, my friend! That's a great idea to make your own kimchi. Good luck!
My recipe is on my website now! Thank you very much! Leave your questions under the recipe on my website. I will answer you as soon as possible.
@ninja3014 My friend bought it for me when we went to a Korean festival event in Toronto 2 years ago. It was under $3.00! Check either Korean grocery store or Japanese store. Thanks!
Making this for the second year in a row for our Korean BBQ party tomorrow for New Year's Eve. Thank you so much Maangchi for being such a huge part of my life and cuisine!!!!
can you remake this version for 2020? maybe a maangchi meat series?
ok, I will keep your request in mind!
Thank you! I am such a big fan and have been watching for years. There is nothing wrong with the current videos but I watch your videos sometimes because I miss home and I just want to feel like my mom is closer. It would be great to have your current editing and video quality to some of your older and very important work. I just moved to a city with very little Korean food so these videos have become so important now! Thanks Manngchi!
Yess i want too!!! Please remake it 🙏🙏🙏🙏 i really enjoy itttt somehow :))
@pinayvacavilleUSA The small grill was given to me by my friend. You may find it at an Asian store.
@jqncrr Yes, mince onion, garlic finely. Fresh garlic is more tasty. Good luck with your cooking!
I love how easy u make it. When i go to my local korean bbq restaurant i have the beef galbi with the vegetarian bibimbab. Thank u for sharing
When I was about 5, my father worked for a Korean family in NYC. We were invited to a feast I still have pictures of. They graciously gave him a recipe for Calbi. It's been about 30 years and we make it every summer.
Buckwild 65 and
@chunkatty LA style beef short ribs are cut thinly, so they are very tender. Use your grill, no problem. Mine is disposable. It's already gone. : ) I broil my LA galbi and it always turns out delicious. Charcoal bbq? It's the best! Let me know how your bbq turns out.
Winner…good kalbi!!! I made this and cooked it at the beach for picnic lunch…..that was the best tasting food along with kimchee and rice ball thank you. You are the best!!!!! I love your personality…very meaningful and respectful to your cooking….
Yay, I'm so happy to hear that! Continued good luck with your Korean cooking!
Wow! Made these tonight. Best short ribs ever! 11/10. Thanks, Maangchi
@MURA1243 My friend gave it to me. Check out Asian grocery stores in your area.
@riyankie02 The marinade can be used in bulgogi recipe.
Actually I've watched this video so many times and I've tried also so many times the way Maanchi shows us to marinate the beef for babecue and believe me it is sooooo delicious. Thank you Maanchi.
I just finished getting my galbi and bulgogi marinated, following your recipes. I can't wait until tomorrow to eat everything 😋! Thank you!
Exciting!
@@Maangchi Mine came out tough, it was good meat from Costco too.
I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed this recipe! Cheers!
Hi, that's for dipping sauce. Check out the recipe on my website please. More photos and how to eat Korean BBQ with lettuce and ssamjang(soybean paste dipping sauce) are posted. Happy cooking! : )
Watching this makes me so hungry
Where can I get that specific grill? What is the brand/model?
@hellokitty01ify My friend bought it for me when we went to a Korean festival event in Toronto 2 years ago. It was under $3.00! Check either Korean grocery store or Japanese store. Thanks!
Thank you for sharing your story about LA galbi! Nice meeting you through my CZcams channel!
Oh wow, Korean BBQ beef is one of my favorites but I never knew how it was made. You are such a good cook, I'm sure that you have a very happy family if you cook like that for them, and I knew that you would bite into the pear core as that's what I would have done too. Thanks so much for the great post :-)
Such a nice woman, thank you for your videos.
You made my day! Happy cooking!
sooo tasty!! this is my second time making this LA Galbi.
All my family is enjoying!
Thank you so much for your receipt!
great choice of tango in the background !!
Excuse me, you know what's the name of the song?
Made this last night and homemade is best just like Maangchi says!!!! So so delicious 🤤
👏
@momo1123 I'm very happy to hear that! Cheers!
Thank you! Happy cooking!
I'm actually making this again tonight. It was such a hit last time with my family! I have the meat marinating right now.
+EvilValenStrife Hope it turned out great again!
Maangchi OMG! It was sooooo good!!!
+Maangchi
I am really hungry 😢
Maangchi!!! where did you found that grill?
@montybeth thank you, now I'm smiling while reading your comment!
yes, any ripe pear will work well. Check out my most recent recipe video "baesuk"(steamed pear). I am using a bosc pear.
Just bought some Korean beef short ribs thank you for sharing this awesome video I will try the sauce💜💜🙌🏽👍🏽
Good luck!
Hi Maangchi just want to know where can i buy the grill you used for this segment? Thank you...
she mentions in the decription that you can use a pan but i'm sure a normal grill will also works fine, just buy some sort of grill mat first so the meat doesn't fall through. If you really want to use what she is, you should be able to find it at a large asian grocery store like H Mart.
i love the way she cook
Bulgogi is beef sliced thinly, marinated, and cooked. LA galbi is LA style cut beef ribs, marinated, and cooked. Both use the same marinade. So you can use this marinade for bulgogi. Check out the recipe on my website please.
I love this woman.
I just so happen to have these marinating away in my fridge right now. I'm cooking them after I get back from the Jazz Festival.
So glad I found your videos! I love this recipe!!
great! Thank you for the update!
I made this today, it was very tasty! I had a lot of sauce left over; can I use it for other dishes? It seems a waste not to reuse it.
it could probably be used with other meats too but i'd worry about contamination if left alone too long. you could even try it with vegetables.
Maangchi, what is that song I keep hearing in the video? I think this would make a fantastic song for dancing while the ribs chill in the refrigerator.
JiraiyaNoSannin I want to know too. I think the artist is Casker.
Song: Casker - Doll (캐스커 - 인형)
I tried it and my friends liked it! Thanks for sharing this simple recipe!
The LA style galbi was a hit with the family! The marinade for the short ribs was really easy to make and delicious, but I have to say that the ssam-jjang was particularly tasty. During these times when we can't visit our regular restaurants as often as we would like, it's been great to try out your recipes. I would say that they are better than restaurant quality!
Wonderful news! Happy cooking!
Maangchi, you didn't show me how to make the sauce, pls 😭 i'm going to make this with my friends this weekend 😍
The recipe is here. www.maangchi.com/recipe/la-galbi
Senda Guérif
Maangchi I love your videos
Senda Guérif hi
Hi it's me again my ex sister in law used to put red hot chili peppers instead of the Korean pear I loved the spicy kick!😁
@casinohijack Thank you very much for your encouraging words! Happy cooking!
That was awesome!!! I enjoy how you aren't afraid to put your hands right in your food when you are cooking and also not afraid to eat on camera. You are very entertaining and I enjoyed very much!
So good! We just had it for dinner. I used pork steak instead of the ribs. it was delish and my family loved them! Even my daughter who is not a fan of meat. Yum.
maangchi,i think you are the double of jang geum in jewel in the palace..
I love that show too much....
@muddywaters1980 hope it turns out great! let me know the result!

@@Maangchi tqvm..Maangchi

I like ur grill machine. where did u buy this?
easily found on Amazon using "Korean bbq grill", you might have to scroll down a little bit to find something that looks similar or you could go to a korean grocery store like H Mart and try your luck there.

Good idea I will make it with mango . I think pineapple would be great tooo
stay healthy maangchi!! i so love your recipe.. thank you!!
Great recipe......You are very clean when cooking...Good tips!
Can I use regular apple instead of Asian pear?
Yes you can , and it taste great
Abdullah Hafiz You can, but carbonated sodas or a kiwi would make it even more tender because of the acidity
Some korean folks i know in usa just pour 7up on it instead of fruit juice
I recommend you to use Kiwis instead of Pears. Both make meat tender.
Maangchi! It's so nice to watch you cook, thank you for uploading videos on youtube. Your spirit and excitement makes it fun for me again. :) Thank you thank you!
@dayumonica yes, of course u could use blender.
Your recipe is the BEST! Thank you! 👍
Your recipe s simple, easy to follow and combines a fantastic set of ingredients. I taught in Korea in Kang Nam Ku for almost two years and this is one of the BEST recipes for me thus far......! Well done Ajumoni!

One of my friends gave it to me. I think you can get it Japanese or Korean grocery store.
I don't use any oil when I grill it but if you want use cooking oil. No butter.
Loves all of your recipe Maangchi ❤
