Woo! J Mascis! I never thought I'd see a Dinosaur Jr reaction.đ Y'all made my day.
Amen.
Too bad it was this song đą
No one would be more surprised than J! Lol!
This song is easily understood. Like when people talk to you about their problems.. sometiems you can empathize, other times you don't care.
âThe Lungâ, is probably my favorite Dinosaur Jr. song.
I think you are right on point there Brad. Us Gen Xers grew up feeling deeply, with a strong conscience, but sometimes those feelings get overwhelming to the point where the again typical Gen X defence mechanism kicks in and the cynical walls come up and we "feel nothing". We are a moody complicated bunch but we made some CRACKIN music from it.
Incredibly cool that you reacted to Dinosaur Jr.! Jay Mascis is an awesome musician. Great reaction. Thank you!!! Brought back so many great memories for me!
I can't say enough about this band. Loved them back in the day! Often overlooked but really helped to set the stage of early grunge. The Green Mind CD, although old, still really smacks. "Wagon" and "Puke & Cry" were two of their first I ever heard that blew my mind. "Little Fury Things" is also an awesome really old one. But, they've gone through a number of stages since then, and have tons of songs from later albums. "Out there" from the Where you Been album is also one that's really good. Edit: Brad totally caught the meaning.
@@SecretAgentBeans thanks, its a totally good song! kudos to you for liking them so long ago.
@@SecretAgentBeans those are three great albums! love the Thrasher story.
đ This is older alternative , indie rock. They were at the same time as Nirvana, Pixies, Sonic Youth, Jane's Addiction. '80s and 90s. Loved all of these bands those years growing up.
Amazing guitar work by this band.
Wow! I never imagined you'd do Dinosaur Jr! :)
Dinosaur Jr on the channel, happy days. How about some Sebadoh next? or even fIREHOSE đ
Listen to I'm Insane and Watch The Corners. They are both by Dinosaur Jr.
See, Lex, its like this: Sometimes its you that delivers the perfect truth and insight into a song. And then sometimes, its our man, Brad!! Knocked this one out of the park, sir! (or off the green maybe lol) Love it :)
yeah I find it so funny and it's usually mutually exclusive, Brad doesn't get the message of the songs Lex understands, and Lex doesn't get the songs that Brad understands. But together they are the perfect team.
Yea we were definitely mental in the 90s
Great observation with the intent of the lyrics, Brad. Empathy. Numbness. Then goes crazy.
So glad you got to this. I knew Brad would love it.
Brad nailed it! Its' feeling pain for other people's mishaps and feelings. He also loves indie/alt/alt rock and Garage punk. No shocker. lol. Lex kinda does at times, but throws her for a loop lol. The musical structure, punk influences, vocal style, etc.
They were an '80s/'90s alt/indie rock band. Garage punk. College rock. Played often on college radio stations and alt stations. Music videos on alt night on MTV. 120 Minutes, Alternative Nation, Cutting Edge back in the '80s and '90s. Beavis and But.thead shows too.
Early alt rock band like REM, Dinosaur Jr, Replacements, DEVO, B-52s, Ween, The Cure, Meat Puppets, Smithereens, Flaming Lips, Violent Femmes, Eels, XTC, RHCP, Nada Surf, B Hole Surfers, Pixies, Pavement, Nada Surf, Husker Du, etc. Gen X alt/indie music . Again, we need another '80s/'90s alt/indie rock stream! lol Been awhile now.
Didn't really start in the '90s, Brad. Really in the '80s. Moody. Especially alternative music.
Also bands like Dinosaur JR, Pixies, Sonic Youth, Radiohead, Husker Du, Nada Surf, etc populurized the dynamic shifts (slow mellow to quick fast upbeat, back and forth) in vocals/music. Which became popular in the late '80s, early '90s and beyond. Bands like Nirvana, other grunge bands, post-grunge, alt rock, Built To Spills, Weezer, shoegazy bands like Deftones, Smashing Pumpkins, My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, in future years were influenced from this.
Dinosaur JR had other great songs/videos yall should check out. "Take It Back", "Freak Scene", "Start Choppin", "The Wagon", The Cure cover "Just Like Heaven", etc
That was a very exhaustive breakdown. In a good way. Kudos to you.đ€
Dinosaur is my absolute favorite band, I hope you check out more of their music, especially you're living all over me
The best!
Mine too!
@@Sasquatch10 What's a favorite song on there? I pretty much like them all but Raisans gets me pretty good Everytime.
@@mm37too Raisans is mine too, followed by In a Jar. But like you said, the entire album is phenomenal.
@@Sasquatch10 That's too cool! Heck yeah! They all pretty good really could name every song pretty much..the Lung, Sludgefeast, in a jar, yeah it's a bad ass album!
Dinosaur, Jr.? Yay! More more.
One of my favorite songs ever, it's instantly puts me in a good mood when I hear it, another great song by Dinosaur Jr that you guys should watch is Out There.
Haven't heard this song in years - thanks!
I will always remember this song from the movie HouseGuest (1995), which starred Sinbad & the late, great Phil Hartman.
Surprised to see Dinosaur Jr - great reaction!
I saw Dinosaur Jr live once and I've never seen so much flannel in one place before
I love that you guys scope out songs most would not think about, but hold a ton of significance for a large group of people. Instead of hitting up the latest video you dive deep and for that I thank you!
This is my Gen .. makes me feel warm and fuzzy! Thank you! â€
Oh wow! I never knew you had a Dinosaur Jr video in the archives. Really good to see! :)
Thanks for sharing this đ
Dinosaur Jr. is a massive rabbit hole, completely worth the time.
The last band I expected to see on here! Been listening to them since the early 90s.
yay more Dinosaur Jr!! đ
Wow... with the Twin Towers in the background đ€
Simpler times.
Dinosaur Jr is a great and underrated band. Grunge before grunge.
Their covers of Just Like Heaven (The Cure) and Show Me the Way (Peter Frampton) are better than the originals.
Their best besides those are
Freak Scene
The Wagon
In A Jar
The Lung
Yeah We Know
I didnât know this video was so amazing!
Dinosaur Jr isn't The most accessible music in the world but they have many great songs
dinosaur jr rocks!!! my fave by them is in a jar
Been waiting for this one to drop. Good stuff, as usual from the legends known as Dinosaur Jr.
Yo transmit, where you been?
Happy dino is making a bit of a comeback
It's just like Sonic Youth blended with Pixies.
A+ analysis, Brad!
This is one of the reasons I love you guys. You don't follow all the others.
Dinosaur Jr have a large discography and better songs. Still happy to see them get reacted to though
I think underneath it all Brad is an Emo. He surprises me with the type of songs he likes and totally gets the meanings. Nice reaction please keep doing more Dino Jr and maybe add in some Replacements, Husker Du, Nada Surf and the like.
This ain't emo, though.
Nada Surf for sure. HĂŒsker DĂŒ too
Sugar is a little bit of a friendlier entry into Bob Mould but yes Husker Du is a must!
Now do Start Choppin'. My go-to song for when I'm aggravated and I just need to thrash something out to feel better.
Amazing band, give Freak Scene and Start Choppin a listen, youâll be hooked after that x
Love this band. Lucky enough to have seen them way back when at both festivals and in small venues. Stupid loud. It was almost like conceptual art. 'We are going to be so loud you ain't going to get the lyrics and will go home deaf' Oh and the solos, well.
Dinosaur Jr are one of the best bands ever, give Freak Scene a listen x
Brad nailed it!
I was an Alt-Rock fan back in the early '90s, but it took me awhile to warm to Dinosaur Jr. Even though I'd been aware of the band for several years prior by name only and schoolmates and friends who were fans who wore their t-shirts, this song was my gateway into them. Well, let's just say that I was underwhelmed at first listen. There didn't seem to be any point to the repetitive and seemingly minimalist lyrics with its message going over my head. So, I dismissed the band. A few years later, I get into bassist, Lou Barlow's side-project bands, Sebadoh and Folk Implosion, not knowing of his involvement in Dinosaur Jr. until one of my old college friends clued me in a few years later when I scored tix to a Sebadoh concert and invited him to be my guest for the other ticket. Some years later, I hear the song again through a new set of ears and in, of all places, one of these 24-hr. oversized warehouse grocery stores. I was working a 3rd-shift shelf-stocking task when this song came on the overhead Muzak PA system (a speaker was literally directly above where I was working; so, the sound wasn't muted by distance, and I couldn't escape it if I'd wanted to), and all of a sudden, out of nowhere, the deceptive simplicity and seeming superficiality of that chorus melted away, and its message hit me like a ton of bricks, and I had to take a moment to get ahold of myself, because I was literally on the verge of experiencing an emotional breakdown while listening to a song while on-the-clock at work. While I did have a spasm of tears overtake me, I didn't have a complete breakdown. For context, this was in the couple/few years after the Great Recession which followed the housing market collapse of 2007/'08. I'd experienced homelessness for the first (but not the only) in my life not long after first going unemployed in those immediate weeks after that recession began. I'd only just gotten that job a cpl./few months prior to this moment with this song and was still technically homeless (although staying with a friend and his wife who were nice enough to let me live in their basement, rent-free, 'til I'd saved enough income from that job to get a place of my own). Parallel to this upheaval in my personal life, there'd been a streak of deaths in my family and within various circles of friends. The family deaths weren't the source of major psychological blogs given that they were both of my grandmothers (maternal first, and paternal second -- about 5 years apart); so, those deaths were expected but still grieved, nonetheless. It's the deaths of friends of various ages that really took a toll on me during those years. Several were cancer-related. A few were substance-abuse-related. Others were accidental deaths. And more than one were suicides. These compounded one on another to the point where before I had the chance to complete the grieving cycle for one loss, here came another one for me to either grapple with while still grieving the earlier loss or compartmentalize away to deal with another time. Added to all of this, I didn't find out about some of these deaths until weeks or even months after-the-fact -- well after shared mutual friends had had the opportunity to go to their funerals, but no one had thought to reach out to me to be included into the community of their mourners. So, with all of this compounding loss and resulting emotional trauma that I'd experienced over a relatively short span of time, I think hearing this song in that moment was an emotional outlet that I needed in order to help me with my grieving process and also dedicate myself to fixing my then-current situation
Luckily for me, it was 2 or 3 in the morning, and I was alone in my aisle -- the handful of patrons and other staff present were elsewhere in the store. After the song was over, I still needed a little recovery time in order to regain my psychological bearings and settle my emotions so that I could return to focusing on the stocking task that I had been in the middle of before this song came on.
Because of the healing that culminated from hearing this song in that moment, it is now one of my all-time favorites from that era, and every time I hear it come on my Bluetooth speaker at work (not 3rd-shift grocery store shelf-stocking) via random shuffle play of whatever playlist I pre-selected, I sing along to that chorus, and really belt it out, because I seriously have felt the pain of everyone, and then when I've reached my maximum capacity for feeling empathetic and sympathetic pain for others, I feel nothing -- and that's OK
Y'all gotta check out some more Dinosaur Jr.
Potentially the most underrated band from the 80's/90's.
Finally people are reacting to this amazing band
You guys are doing some great gen x bands. Notice the lyrics.
Some great shots of the world trade centre.
They did a cover of Just like Heaven from the Cure. The live version from the Norwegian Wood fest is the best. LIke it almost as much as the original.
I love jr.
Brad schooling Lex and right on point! This world is completely upside down these daysđ€đđđ
If you like Dinosaur Jr then I would suggest checking out Built to Spill
Western Massachusetts, it's cool fool.
I tried to learn the guitar to this while housesitting. I was much better letting the dogs out
As an empath, this song has always spoken to me.
Hi you have cool reactions good luck in the future. listen to this song =C-Block - So Strung Out=
Hi guys have you done Iron Maiden Where Eagles Dare? I loved it as a teenager in the UK. â€
I could swear you guys already hit this song. Great song though.

Great song
Gotta say I'm impressed that Brad got it before Lex this time. No shade, I love Brad. But that's usually Lex's wheel house. Dinosaur Jr. are disgustingly underrated. Thanks for giving them some love.
Please do wicked games by The Weeknd!!
Finally..
Forget the Swan
I feel the pain, and it hurts, this song hurts!
I DK if it is because I just smoked, but that shit lit
Whatever's Cool With Me
This song is about capitalism. Empathy is used to control the masses/blue collar, middle class. Consume or be consumed.
90s was a replica of 60s woodstock hell we even brought back woodstock was a drug infested eror loads acid going around with every other drug and drugs were cool till you soberd up life was a party
Classified - Powerless. Incredible meaning to the song on something that needs to be talked about.
Can you react to chasing cars by snow patrol
Did you guys like the music? You only talked about the lyrics. To me the guitar riff is the best part
Listen to Get Me by Dino Jr.
Wowww... sorry for the question guys? but you like all this songs or just react to random great song in the different music styles?.... thank you!
As a band who writes lyrics and people react to. He feels the pain of his fans to his music and he feels nothing. Not one or the other. Both. If you have ever performed on stage more than twice, you can maybe understand.
i dislike many of his takes on music, i agree with him on this one, at last
Yâall definitely arenât gonna get his voice lol
Lots of un-diagnosed mental health issues in Gen X.
Yup, and they raised the little psychos we have running the streets now.....
I wish you guys would go back to reacting to classic rock songs from the 70's and 80's, there are still many more great songs to check out.
Dinosaur Jr started in mid 80's. And Martian Boogie isn't better.
@@transmit13 I'm just saying they were reacting to the great classic songs from popular bands before the 90's but not lately, you are probably too young to appreciate music from those days.
@@ralphfiligenzi6180 I know what you mean. I was born in the 70's.
East coast Garbage Grundge. I saw Jay's layout in Guitar Player magazine. He uses a lot to sound that way. Ugh!!!đ
I just wish you would listen to the song instead of watching a video.
I'm with Lex, just didn't do anything for me...
Such a great band but this song and video are a terrible representation of them
This songâŠ.đ€Šđ»ââïž Didnât like it 30 years ago and still donât.
This is not grung and has nothing to do with it. These groups think playing fast is cool and talking slowly is cool but it really didnât work.
Boring song bro
Who tricked you guys into listening to this crap.
''EH''
This song is about heroin.
This one is very mostly Brad's perception.
