I think Guile would of probably washed dj if they fought but that last fight versus Vega(Bison in usa) was a wash. He whiffed low fierce punch, stand fierce punch, the flash kick and the sonic SMH lmao. Still sf2 movie imo told the SF story the best. The comics are great also. Guile is actually very strong in the comics, more then the games atleast (storyline wise).

This happens to pretty much every single game, just look at the King of Fighters and the God knows how many characters they have. Some are monsters in game but storywise they are just... there.

Hmmmm......I remember when Street Fighter was about Ken and Ryu being in a world fighting tournament.
Then Ryu punches Sagat's chest so hard he almost died and things have been a bit more complicated since then.
I'm glad Guile getting justice though I'm not really a fan of his but he's been buried so much in Street Fighter he is said to be the fourth main character in Street Fighter after Ryu, Ken and Chun-Li but I think Guile was buried since Street Fighter 4 after he lost to Juri in that OVA and he is kinda weak he can't even beat Vega and he got stomped by Kolin in her story they did Guile dirty.
Juri is actually pretty strong though... Claw practically shit himself when he had to face her and he is easily one of the stronger characters that isnt a boss/Ryu/mid-boss/Oro/Gen/etc.

Didn’t butcher Guile? I went through YEARS thinking that his SF2 ending was canon. It wasn’t. He’s been losing since the 90s. Doesn’t fight in the movie, is late to save Chun-Li who beats Vega. Gets beat by Bison. Is a joke in SF4. Loses to Juri. Has a draw with Abel. And in 5, gets laid out by Charlie, fails mission after mission, accomplishes nothing.
Losing to Karin sealed the deal. No wonder he disappears and is never seen in 3. He never avenges his friend. Hell, he loses his marriage and family.
My favorite character. But I had to admit. Story wise? Garbage. Unless you count Van Damme.
Ya they did Guile wrong in SF5. They turned not only him but Chung Li from Hulk bodyslaming Andre in WM3 to Dolf Ziggler being pinned by Otis to no one in the stands. This guy won the World Warrior Tournament in SF2. It was his or Chung Li’s story to defeat Bison. But of course Ryu had to go over.

That wasn't canon. He would have lost to Claw and Boxer. He will never be Dictator tier. Nash and Ken were at a similar level at one point(Ken is likely stronger than Alpha Nash now). So if Guile can't beat Nash, then he has no chance of ever catching Ryu
To be fair, I don't know who has a bigger downfall, Guile or Paul Phoenix. Dude went from fighting Kazuya before losing his half of the devil to a draw and being a badass overall, to losing to Kuma and failing everything else in life at the point he thinks he is the strongest in the universe. Compared to that, Guile has it easier I think
It seems they were worried that if they made Guile to prominent that he should have been on the main roster instead of dlc.
This is sad. I've actually been a huge fan of Guile ever since i saw that 90s Street Fighter movie as a kid. Sad to see how unimportant hes become in the recent games.

I don't know if this is any comfort, but there's a flow chart that says Nash's status of him being dead or alive is unknown. So there's a small chance he's still alive unless Capcom says other wise :)

To be honest, I feel like a lot of things happened with Guile that ultimately lead to his downfall. First they caught fire in a bottle in his very original iteration in SFII, he was "almost" overpowered, he was a strong character with a strong story, and he managed to have cool vibes about him, really. They did a good job.
However, I think he became more popular than they WANTED him to be, in some ways he even overshadowed their intended main character of Ryu. In the first iteration of SFII, Ryu stood virtually no chance against Guile. So, it "seems" to me like they intentionally changed his character for the worse. For one thing, they weakened the literal strength of his moves, they left everything but the low recovery time after Sonic Boom pretty much, and by SSFII they seemingly intentionally gave him(and a few other characters like Sagat, perhaps as cover) a homo-erotic voice which back then would be an insult. They literally never ever gave him a new special move, even though I highly doubt would have made him overpowered or made him render any other character obsolete, and they also gave him one of the absolute hardest to perform super combos come SSFIIT. To say they gave him a hard time is an understatement.
I think capcom eventually believed in him, accidentally made him more powerful than they wanted, started to hate him(they were probably losing to Guile-players in hyper competitive Japan) and while they kicked him out of a few iterations of SF they ultimately keep him around because he makes money, but I don't think they like him very much and would prefer to get rid of him if they could. I think if they felt they could get away with it, they'd kill him off.
Guile is a good character who I still love to this day. He didn't really deserve this shit.
And finally, as you said, they never give him badass feats in the canon. He should be someone who can pwn Ryu in the canon IMO, it would make sense because he can usually pwn Ryu in most of the games, even when he's depowered. (Even in SSFIIT you can just pick the original version of Guile an pwn everybody, I even beat the whole game on the hardest difficulty without losing a single match with that Guile on two separate occasions) and it would be great if he did pwn Ryu once, or at least get a very notable victory from someone on or above Ryu's level. That is what I hate about anime/canon power levels for fighting games, they usually never match up to how good or bad the character is in the game really.
And most of all, as somebody else so perfectly illustrated, they bury EVERYBODY to put over Ryu needlessly, perhaps most of all Guile as I argued.

SFIV (right, not Super, not Ultra, but Vanilla) and SF Alpha 2 were pretty good in terms of storytelling, though. And the problem with SFV is that it was rushed in terms of everything, so unfortunately, the first story arc (Season 1 & Shadaloo's Fall) suffered from it. But the 2nd arc (Season 2 & 3 Char Stories) is currently looking pretty good, pretty sure the next cinematic story will be a lot better.

One thing you guys gotta remember is how strong and fearsome m bison truly is. I think they captured this in the original sf2 anime neither ken or ryu could beat him alone. Chun li would have fought and lost she was shook of Vega and who wouldn’t be? Guile fought bison off of pure emotion pure anger and got beaten easily. What has really changed since then? In game time you have to remember not very much time has passed since sf2 so sf4 and 5 are pretty much one right after another with sf3 being further in the future so these fighters wouldn’t have really had too much of an opportunity to improve. I love guile’s character his design and stuff I wanted him and Charlie to have a real satisfying conclusion after all this time. I wanted him to come out on top but ultimately that’s just not his place it’s ryus lol
Guile never stood a chance. Moons Dictator is stupidly strong. Not relevant compared to Gouki, Gouken, Gill, Oro, etc, but still far beyond anything a standard SF character can hope to face
Yes, he's definitely not on Bison's level, and I liked the fact Ryu was the one who finished Bison off. He is the main character, and Bison has been SF's core villain for so long.
However, they could've at least have Guile beat up some other characters. First of all, he should've kicked the crap out of the doll he fought, and maybe get held off by a second one or something, maybe even two at a time. Then during the end where he "couldn't make it to Bison", have him fight Balrog or Ed or something. Those two weren't fighting anyone at that time.
There was a lot I liked about SF5's story mode, but the mishandling of Guile was definitely one of the lowest points. At least Chun Li got to beat up FANG at the end (and yes, I know FANG was already banged up anyhow).

Well Street Fighter 2 Movie is non canon but they really drop the ball with Guile he's been a jobber he has a good story but they never did nothing with it he's just use to put characters over and he's not in 3 only Ryu, Ken and Chun-Li the trinity of Street Fighter in 3 if Guile in 6 which will be 3 technically I don't know how he be incorporated with the story cause his story pretty much wrappef up.
The meta of the characters should never override the narrative.

Chun-Li been mistreated in Street Fighter V but she had a better showing then Guile and Cammy they gave Chun-Li another feat but she still been dogged Guile was trashed around is horrible he has a very weak resume compared to that of Chun-Li, Dhalsim, Zangief etc he's basically a jobber.
Well Guile, Cammy and Chun-Li have all got only one victory in SFV and that's against FANG. No one of them has the better resume than the other.

The thing with Guile is, if you make him achieve considerable feats, that takes away some of the spotlight from Ryu/Ken.
Take note that Guile still held his own against Juri, which neither Chun-Li or Cammy was able to achieve in the OVA.
How strong Juri is in the actual canon can be a subject of debate, but the way she's presented is pretty much the way Crimson Viper was--achieve some feats here and there just to hype them up. Guile doesn't need hyping.
It's kinda like how HHH jobs to Batista in the WWE. Batista needs to be hyped up. Doesn't necessarily mean HHH wasn't that great.
You shouldn't just look at feats but also the context.
Guile has ALWAYS been portrayed as an upper mid tier. Piccolo or Trunks comparison could be a better analogy than Yamcha.
Street Fighter 2 V may not be canon but that should show his proper place in the SF in terms of importance.
Though I think he should have lasted longer in the M.Bison fight in the SF2 animated movie.
He does acknowledge the context. He also acknowledges what the character is trying to set to do or be.
Poor Guile....I expected him to be one and among of Street Fighter's most powerful mid-carders behind Ken Masters or Dhalsim....but nope they couldn't at least decide for the sake of consistency on who should be powerful and be in par with.
They should do Ryu vs Akuma and Guile vs M.Bison. Guile should be at least half of Ryu and almost equal of M. Bison at least to fight.
Guile is a talent enhancer said it right especially since he's a legendary and legacy character taking out such very known characters is the key to success for characters like look how Juri came into Street Fighter taking out Chun-Li, Guile and Cammy and quickly became if not one of the greatest characters in Street Fighter history.
The made those three characters look like jobbers just to hype up a overrated character for the sequel.
What disturbed me the most was that all of their uniforms are not stealthy or practical...why is Ibuki wearing a school girl outfit...why is ibuki interacting with Karen instead of Sakura🤔 looooot of questions.

Poor, poor Guile. Looks like Capcom finally decided to give him the shaft in this game. While they may have butchered his character as a weakling in the story line, at least he still more or less kicks ass as a playable character within the gameplay in and of itself.

Zangief would get washed by Bison. They needed someone who is capable of defeating Bison and a Wrestler wouldn't be capable of that. I would've given that to Guile though. If he wanted payback, he should've charged up there after Charlie vanished. Guile wouldn't have been so useless then.

Guile was hands down, my favorite character in World Warrior. He looked tough, his moves were badass and he had some of the best animations in the game. Then they nerfed him in Champion edition, (and also made him look worse in the selection screen imo), And everything went downhill from there and he turned into a cartoon gijoe. I blame the American movie and cartoon for that. I think the closest he's been to the badass impression he gave in his debut is the Street Fighter II V anime series.
Guile's best showing in anime was in Street Fighter 2 V when he beat Ryu, showed that he was strong, fast, and skilled as a fighter beyond the special moves, even his flash kick was just a kick without any chi energy added to it.
There is a good youtube video showing Guile fighting The winter soldier and Crossbones, it's obviously not canon but it captures Guile's fighting style as it should be IMO.

@@powerninjasuperior482 Having a better resume and more feats doesn't automatically make you more powerful! It depends on who you fight and what your feats are! In SFV, Chun-Li defeated an exhausted FANG... that's it! Although FANG is stronger than a doll (Santamu), he's still way inferior to Vega, who Guile fought to a draw, so there's nothing guaranteeing Chun-Li can beat Guile. And like I said, Chun-Li is reckless and her training is incomplete (she isn't even really interested in fighting). Guile, on the other hand, was trained by Nash and has always been focused. It just narratively makes sense for Guile to be superior.
Well, Guile might become stronger in the next story mode somehow, lol.

Have Charlie and Guile do better against Abel or better yet don't let Zangief 1 shot him if he's suppose to be strong (especially if he was stronge enough to have an actual match with Zangief in sf4)
Guile uses his sonic boom to knock Bison into Chun-li's spinning bird kick and kills him
And maybe Guile stops the explotion .
Damn shame, buddy was the star of the American version of Street Fighter 2 cartoons, yet he's been buried With Nash, Axel and now Luke. He was the all American hero that never got over the way Ken did. Buddy got played by JCVD and still is trash smdh.
I hope Guile get justice in Street Fighter V
