The 1st Lady Of Fighting Games and Capcom does not treat her as such Chun-Li need to be repackaged it was not until Street Fighter V they made a fool out of her.
Ryu defeating Bison instead of Guile, Charlie and Chun Li is the equivalent of Hulk Hogan coming in last minute to defeat Yokozuna stealing Bret Hart’s spotlight at Wrestlemania 9.

The Street fighter story in the games and the animated movie should have been focused on Chun-Li Guile Cammy and Charlie Nash (maybe even Rose considering Soul Power is the biggest weakness of psyco power)
Ryu and Ken's story should have revolved around Akuma and the death of their master gouken.

Exactly, not only does Ryu have nothing to do with bison story-wise BUT he is literally the one responsible for taking down Bison and Shadowloo NOT Chun-Li Guile Cammy Juri or Charlie Nash. Ryu's is supposed to revolve around Akuma.

The best part? She didn't need Guile to rely on for help. Unlike Mai Shiranui needing Andy Bogard to bail her out due to her stupid antics
Yeah. Chun Li wasn't originally a Faux Action Girl who always need someone's help to actually win, she was good enough to defeat Vega even after he caught her off-guard and she was tired.
Although she still ended up being sidelined when it came to taking down bison, so it's bitter sweet.
Yeah, at least she got the single best moment in all of Street Fighter media. Her throwing that couch was crazy.

It’s wrong that the veterans we grew up in our generational rosters using are relegated to being weaker than the newcomers. Now you know why the Mortal Kombat and even King Of Fighters games (probably the second best written fighting series along with Samurai Showdown and even Fatal Fury) have the depth to their lore that they do. Sensible character development (Especially KOF. My favorite).

Chun-Li was one of the strongest characters in Street Fighter but as the franchise went along everything regarding Chun-Li was getting dimmer she was great in Street Fighter IV going after Bison, rivalry with Juri and try taking down Shadaloo all at once her story in V about her not listening and doing everything on her own was suppose to been a lesson learned but she made the same mistakes in V story mode her story contradict what she did in the story mode.

Yoshi Oriono and his so called writing team did a banged-up hack job of the first-ever story mode in a Street Fighter game. They would do well not to repeat unless they want a bunch of angry fans not to play their story mode or game at all.
If SF was a work of one person only- then it may be more credible to see how the story fits in- but sadly the game sequels are directed by different people from time to time. And if one doesn’t bring it up then you know there’s quite a lack of sense of direction during development how the plot should progress all in all.

Chun Li is the first lady of fighting games for a reason. Tough as nails and a complete bad ass but went down the drain in Street Fighter 5. Getting beat by Bison(understandable since he got amped by the Black Moons) and almost died and then jobs out to Rashid(to be fair on her she was injured during her fight with Bison).

Going back through this I can do nothing but agree with u. Everything pointed to the new guys being stronger and the veterans as washed up. Makes u wonder why they even bothered including them in story mode.
It's called Worf effect. Any newcomer characters somehow defeats old and skilled character, but later he gets defeated by him all the way through. Like, Spider-Man in comics lost to Black Cat in their first fight, but later she didn't defeated him (except once, but it was mostly because of her "bad luck" powers and the fact than Spider-Man is holding back, especially against her).

Unless they have a superheroine who usually stomps ass but is now more of a damsel in distress that takes on softer side missions. That's mainly what this video was about, one of baddest female fighters is now basically jobbing for fresh new talent.

Now to be very Fair, Chun Li's Role in many of the SF Stories have always been a Hit or Miss, she may have been Dwindle down over the Years, but she is still Competent in the SF Lore more than Mai Shiranui in both "Fatal Fury" and "King of Fighters" series.

I don't hate Mai, but the Reason why I brought up and compared her is because Chun Li has stronger Connections with almost every Character in the "Street Fighter" Roster,
Other than Guile, Chun Li does actually have so much Ties with Ryu about the "Sasui No Hado" Plotline since the "Alpha" series, she also Faced off against Gen who once got Defeated by Akuma and was a Friend of her Father, others such as freaking Fei Long who was just a Side Character even has a Purpose for her Character Arc, I can go on for Hours but I Commented too much about Chun Li enough already,
This is what Mai Shiranui has always Lacked in both of her Incarnations from "Fatal Fury" and "King of Fighters" series, her only Connections was for Andy to notice her Feelings, she has nothing to do with others like Terry who has Revenge against Geese and even Krauser (AKA in the same Game where she Debuted alongside him) in Fatal Fury, don't even get me started on the KOF side, it's kinda pretty much in one of those Sagas had forgotten about Mai's Existence, sure other FF Characters don't have any Involvement in the Main Plot but others like Terry still have better Side Stories than her,
In Conclusion, Chun Li has the Better and Stronger Character Development than Mai Shiranui as she will never reach that Level of Writing, so it's time to put an End to this debate Once and for All.

I feel like Mai Shiranui's character would be a lot more interesting if her one-sided crush on Andy Bogard was REMOVED completely and instead have her pair up with Terry Bogard instead of with Andy.
Only instead of it being a one-sided crush it is instead a mutual relationship built around both characters wanting to get stronger with Mai admiring Terry's drive as fighter and person (even relating to him wanting vengeance on Geese)
This drives Mai to train extra hard as a fighter & ninja so she become just as strong as Terry. Terry also admires this about Mai and even has feelings for her BUT doesn't outright admit it imao.
Mai Shiranui has the potential to be one of the strongest women in Fatal Fury/KOF BUT the writers just reduce her to being Andy's unwanted girlfriend.

At least in 3rd Strike's story Chun-Li is still a powerhouse as she was the one who beat Urien (a canon Top tier villain).
I wouldnt say she was "ruined" in SF5 but Capcom did her dirty lol. A Shadow Falls was supposed to be her big moment, as according to SF3 she was the one who took down Shadoloo for good.

Chun li has never won any of the canon tournaments. She's not even on the level of Sagat tbh.
@@ryler7 There are only 2 major tournaments in the SF verse and neither of them actually mattered. The one from SF2 was canceled right after Akuma sort-of killed Bison and the other one from SF4 didn't even involve most of the cast. I never said a thing about Chun fighting Gill either.

Chun-Li needs to beat Bison in a canon Street Fighter game she only defeated him in her own movie but she needs to beat him in game if Kitana who is Chun-Li counterparts can beat Shao Kahn I'm 100% certain Chun-Li can beat Bison.

The problem with that comparison is the gap between Chun-Li and Bison is different to the gap between Kitana and Shao Kahn. Chun-Li is definitely one of the most toughest fighters in SF and has good chances against Bison but for Kitana and Shao Kahn's case if the writers were competent Kitana would get squashed like a bug let's get real here she's not even the most powerful female combatant that spot belongs to her mother Sindel (not counting Cetrion and Kronika) and the latter is no match for Shao Kahn either. I get it that Shao Kahn was responsible for her issues but that doesn't mean Kitana should beat Shao Kahn one and one just because she has a beef with him considering the gap of their powers. It's like wanting Julia to beat Heihachi just because he was responsible for her mother's kidnapping

Imagine if Chun-Li had the drive/motor of Sakura she'd be way better imho.
If Chun Li is strong enough to hold her own in third strike to Urien then she must have trained much harder over the course of 2 - 3 years after SFV. I get Urien is probably less powerful than Bison but he's related and rivaled to Gill. She clearly deserved more respect in this game. She shouldn't have gotten one shotted by Bison. Instead putting a decent display beating Vega and Guile taking Balrog. Then having decent match with Bison but until she is defeated. During the Shadloo raid Chun should beaten all the jobbers in one kick and aided Charlie along with Guile until Charlie dies. FANG getting his butt kicked is about the only respect she got in the story. Most of Karin's took Chun Li's fights. So Chun should have beaten Bison along with Guile while Ryu destroyed Necali and once Chun LI finally knocks Bison down to which he severely wounds Guile which is why she doesn't continue to fight and instead escaping with Ryu or Ken fighting Bison. I know it still end with Ryu or Ken killing Bison but instead I tried to portray a Chun who won't back down from a fight and she got to at least fight and have some substantial feats in my rewrite. Instead I think Ryu's story should have been an epilogue chapter that dealt with his battle with the Satsui no Hado and then leading into a Fight with Akuma that Ryu actually wins. Having Shadloo being taken out by Chun and Guile. She deserved more respect than this and ironically they gave her more respect by saying in Third Strike that she destroyed Shadloo before I don't know why the retcon this and this is severely disappointing because Chun Li is my 3rd favorite Street Fighter characters. More respect should have been shown to the First Lady of Fighting Games

@@alexferrana3979 Exactly. Mai has all of the potential to be a great character (a kunoichi with sex appeal thanks to her tits and outfit and sultry personality. Not to mention a talent with fire based Ninjutsu attacks). However, SNK writes her off as a loser with no feats. In both the KOF and Fatal Fury timelines, not only she gets her ass beat, she has no definitive feats. The worst part is her obsession with Andy Bogard. I would not have minded this paring if there was some emotional advancement, chemistry, and story build to it. Andy tends to avoid Mai like the plague because of how obsessive and clingy she actually is. Even other KOF characters have told her if Andy wanted her, he would have done so a long time ago and to get over Andy.
Personally I blame Masami Obari (the director and character designer for the garbage Fatal Fury anime trilogy) for this shitty flanderization of Mai. Hell, Mai is so irrelevant to the plots of the FG anime that if you were to remove her, nothing of value is lost.
I get that she is meant to be the first sexy fanservice Kunoichi, but you have other ninja girls that have better character lore and storyline direction (Kasumi and Ayane from Dead or Alive, Kitana from Mortal Kombat, Taki from Soul Calibur) it makes Mai look obsolete and irrelevant in the long run. From what I've observed, SNK'S response was to make her tits bigger and bounce os fast it would power a locomotive.

When it comes to Mai Shiranui i feel her character's BIGGEST failing/problem is her unhealthy Obsession with Andy Bogard which makes no SENSE especially since Andy is the WEAKEST Fatal Fury/KOF character of all time & has lost multiple times. Imao i think it would make sense for Mai to into Terry rather than Andy especially considering Terry is the Main Character of Fatal Fury.
Granted THAT would mean giving Mai Shiranui a MASSIVE change in her character to GET STRONGER like Terry and if possible ACTUALLY win a KOF tournament for both herself & her team.
REMOVE Mai Shiranui's crush/infatuation/arranged marriage with Andy Bogard and have her be associated with Terry Bogard ONLY Instead of a One-Sided crush it is instead admiration for a stronger fighter and the desire to be just as Strong.
Maybe there can be some romance between them where Terry acknowledges Mai's strength/determination and asks her out etc.

BLAME it on SNK who always push her character to be OBSESSED with Andy Bogard (the weakest Fatal Fury character) which makes her character look & feel like Amy Rose from the Sonic franchise. Mai Shiranui could be the strongest woman/character in Fatal Fury/KOF/SNK if the writers disassociated her character from Andy Bogard. If Mai needs a love interest than why NOT Terry Bogard (the main character of Fatal Fury) only instead of a one-sided romance it is Instead a Mutual relationship based on strength and determination with Mai admiring Terry and wanting to be just as strong as him.
I generally was wondering where the hell Gouken and Oro have been while the Moon Time. Did Gouken wait until Ryu can handle The Power of Nothingness? Very selfish. He could have saved the world from all this torment very quickly. Is there even a reason why Urien or Gill didn't fight against Bison themselves? And wouldn't this strong version of Bison be a worthy apponent for Akuma? I mean there are not many fighters left Akuma could see as worth fighting. I know it's difficult to write an interessting story when you let god tier characters handle everything, but acting like they don't exist, while putting them all in the game is weird. PS: Characters from other games are part of the Cannon Street Fighter Universe, but Bisons apponents all have been Street Fighter Characters.
They covered Oro in the side story. He told Dhalsim he's too old to play hero and that M. Bison is their problem. It's safe to assume all the old men have the same mentality. Gill and Urien just didn't want to put themselves in the spotlight, they work in the shadows until SFIII.

Honestly the only characters people have a problem with it in the Dead or Alive franchise are Marie Rose and Honoka. The reason being that they feel very out of place and are only there to appeal to anime weebs. This argument is pretty stupid if you ask me imao.

Honoka is her being Ayame's long lost sister and her being a great fighter even though she doesn't really have a unique fighting style and just copycats the other DOA characters Fighting Styles (essentially an autistic savant) even though these reasons aren't really valid for hating her character.
Honestly I think the reason people hate both Maria Rose and Honoka is because they were given way too much screen time in the story mode of Street Fighter 6 which was supposed to be focused on the ninjas.

In my opinion I feel like the Dead or Alive franchise would be a lot more interesting if characters like Tina and her dad Bass got more involved with the story especially considering characters like Lisa and Rigg. Congratulating him and instructs him to seek out Oro for training you can maybe have Ryu get attacked and defeated by Akuma hence seek training from Oro. Yeah for this game the true MVPs are Zangief, Dhalsim, Ken Masters, Karin, and Rashid. Chun Li did nothing but defeat F.A.N.G. which isn’t saying much, got bullied by M Bison, had characters like Zangief and Dhalsim save her from lackeys and then some she was a total damsel in distress. There is so much they could’ve done I’d like to have seen a continuation of Chun Li and Juri Han’s rivalry whilst being an intricate key to defeating M Bison and Shadaloo.

SF 3: 3rd Strike Fight For The Future was the last time Chun-li was portrayed well in a SF game and canonically it was where her story ended (her raising a orphan girl who was kidnapped by Gil and training a orphanage of kids how to fight) however her character is returning for Street Fighter 6 which is FINALLY moving on from the SF 2 M. Bison era
(SF Alpha 1-3 SSF2 Turbo SF 4 & SF 5) and taking place after 3rd Strike Fight For The Future.

I think Tekken is slightly WORSE mostly because of the character assassination of both Kazuya and Jin with both characters who used to be the Heroes/Antiheroes BUT were turned into VILLAINS do too lazy @ss writing in an attempt to be edgy & dark.
Not only that but the needless retcon of heihachi Secretly being a good guy makes NO sense especially considering how much of a downright Terrible & Awful person he has been in the entire Tekken franchise since the Beginning BUT all of a sudden he's a good guy in Tekken 7?
Then there is still wasted potential of
Asuka Kazama & her connection with Jun Kazama & Jin Kazama NOT being acknowledged in the slightest in the entire Tekken story mode.
The whole Bloodline Feud should NEVER had been the focus of Tekken in my opinion. Kazuya should have sought out Jun after Tekken 1&2 and help raise Jin instead of seeing out heihachi.
Both father and son should have been a duo in Tekken 3 where they hunt down Ogre for Killing Jun BUT both father & son tap into the power of the Devil Gene once they come across Ogre who they one-shot instant kill in a vengeful rage until soon after both Kazuya & Jin come to their senses & wonder what was that Dark Power they tapped into. Tekken 4&5 could have been a team up between Kazuya Jin and Jinpachi as grandfather & gransons team up to takedown heihachi BUT unfortunately the gransons are FORCED to takedown their own grandfather who had become possessed by the Devil Gene and have to kill him. It is a bittersweet ending BUT that brings us to Tekken 5 where both Kazuya & Jin take down heihachi once & for all & take over the Mishima Zaibatsu while Heihachi establishes the G Corporation in retaliation for both Son & Granson taking over. Tekken 6 instead of declaring war on the world just to draw out the demon Azazel it is instead Heihachi whose the reasons for doing so is to steal the demon's powers for himself to take down both Kazuya & Jin who have since learned how to control their Devil Genes & can even tap into their full powers/transformations into Devils (resembling their blood vengeance Devil Gene character designs
Because those designs were freaking awesome) as father & son work together to stop Heihachi from taking over world with Azazel's powers BUT unfortunately are too late as Heihachi becomes imbued with the powers/abilities of a demon as he takes on both Kazuya & Jin BUT luckily for father & son Heihachi can barely control the RAW powers of a demon as they take down Heihachi who goes missing soon after until Tekken 7.

For example, Mika and Zangief are established as enemies/rivals rather than Mika idolizing him (instead they made El Fuerte the one who idolize someone which is Mika while in the games the two don't even know eachother), Makoto is portrayed as a loud, crazy and corny comic relief character instead of a hot-blooded and passionate fighter. Morrigan from Darkstalkers is completely rewritten as an outright villain character and a sworn enemy to Chun Li instead of the anti-heroine she's known to be in the games (and ironically she's even friends with Chun Li in the spin off crossover games), they made Cammy the one who kills Chun Li's father instead of Bison being the one who did it. I can, however, respect how they did something I wish Capcom did in the games, such as giving more depth to Juri's backstory and make her more sympathetic rather than just make her one-dimensional psychotic lady just for the sake of being a fearsome femme fatale and that's it.
