Both cows and goats have udders, that's the bag that holds the milk. They both have teats, that's the part that hangs down you get the milk from. It looked to me like her injury is where the teat meets the udder.
I'm currently raising goats and chickens and helping my daughter at her place with pigs and ducks. I plan to add rabbits later this summer. Through my life I have had goats, sheep, pigs, ducks, a pony, cows and rabbits.
Thanks for the “udder & teats” clarification.
So glad you shared this. I thought it was clear, but apparently not. Humans also have udders and teats but we usually call them breasts and nips. Weird the way we're just another one of the animals on the planet but we give special names to our own parts to trick people into thinking we're specialerest somehow.
@@PatrickPoet Yeah 😂
Selah: I was just enjoying your milking and thinking that it will be your quiet place
to think and pray and to sing to your goats. They love music and will give more milk.
GOD bless you, dear girl. You are a gentle herdsman to your flock of geese and ducks
and gentle with your goats. My daughter and I enjoy watching you with your charges.
Thank you for the fine example you are to so many of us.
We appreciate you.
Jess on roots and refuge uses olive oil on her hands when she milks her cow. She also rubs the teats with it when she’s done to moisturize them. Selah could give it a try to see if it helps. I would love to learn how to milk a goat or cow one day. Lol. Have a blessed day 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻💕💕🐐👩🏻🌾
Lacy, "you're welcome and I do love you." That was so sweet - Lacy Girl, go ahead with your bad self!
Both cows and goats have an udder (the whole thing) and teats ( where the milk comes out). Specifically cows have quarters (4 sections/compartments that produce milk) and goats have halves (2 sections/compartments that produce milk) each compartment requires a teat from which the milk can be extracted. ;)
I've only made yogurt with cows milk and I like to put it in a cheese cloth and let it drain in the fridge over night to make a cream cheese replacement for making cheese cake. You will be surprised at how well it works.
We raise goats, chickens, ducks. But until recently I hadn't harvested any of the chickens and ducks(and once I process these ducks we won't replace them, my Wife doesn't care for duck). I do harvest the milk from our nannies, which we drink, make cheese and soap from. This last Year we a year old heifer and finished her then had her processed. We also made the decision to wether any bucklings we have this spring and process them. My Wife is an avid fisherman and we have wild caught fish at least once a week.
Haven't tried making yogurt from my goat milk, but I have made pudding.
I have some "brewing" that I started this morning. I let mine go for 24 to 36 hrs because you get more parts per million bacteria and I think it tastes better.
Oh Lacie, lazy cooks are the best ! Don't remember either of my grandmother's ever measuring anything but boy, could they cook ... good stuff .... take care and be safe
Yall Are So Cute Together(Mike& Lacie)🥰❤
Much Love & GOD Bless Yall ❤🙏❤🙏🥰😘
The milk is 101 degrees when you milk so if you make the yogurt mediately it saves the heating step and then really is raw yogurt. My secret to keep it warm is my waterbed. It is a softer curd than cow milk.
Exactly how we make our truly “raw” goats milk yogurt as well. 😉
I really like goat 🐐 milk yogurt, cheese 🧀, and just plain goat 🐐 milk. Fresh homemade is the best!
I've made yogurt just about the same way. The difference is that once the culture is mixed in, I put the yogurt into jars and set the jars in a covered pot of warm water on the stove. Easy to monitor the temperature and increase as necessary. In about 8 hours, yogurt is ready.
I make yogurt like this and it is great. I stick it in my dehydrator in jars at 105 degrees for 8-10 hrs. Great video.
I have 15 chickens, 7 ducks and 2 cats 🐈 and i love them all ♥️😁
Love the video . Way to go Lacy “I’m a lazy cook” 😂😂😂 I right there with you. I’m a simple cook nothing fancy
Who needs mainstream tv when there is such great content like this. Very enjoyable, a great video.
I am so exited! I just got 2 does 6 months ago and they were pregnant, never had a goat before! I help one of the girls this passed Valentines Day to give birth to a kid boy, I named him Valentino” I posted a video” and today I milked her for the first time”’omg I am 😁 Happy! I can’t wait to make yogurt and cheese. Thank you for this video! Love you guys!♥️
Cody is sure cute! I like Cody's bling around his neck! Goats are amazing jumpers. I'm so glad you have a goat to milk! You guys are always expanding your homestead. I have been very impressed with how much you have expanded your homestead with animals and more high tunnels. I hope you get plenty of bounty during your land sabbath. I really like how you have set-up your pantry and maybe you can figure out a root cellar? You are getting more and more productive with every year. I've never seen those hobble straps. They seem to work great. Home made goat's milk yogurt! I have never made yogurt. That's so cute that Lacie makes the cow and goat yogurt for her love! You are blessed Mike!
I thought Cows and goats have both. The udder is the bag and the teat is the teat
You beat me to it, lol
Lacey your hair looks great. I really enjoy watching y'all. Take care and be safe
I have 12 chickens and guard puppy in training and just got my first goat this week.
I’ve made yogurt several times and it’s way better than store bought greek yogurt. I do 3 TBSPs of plain yogurt per quart of milk.
Lacie: I’m a lazy cook too, girl! 🤣 It works just fine by adding it straight in.
Big props for keeping their horns on, they're so important for body emperature regulation.
It's been almost a year since I first discovered this CZcams channel. On February 23/2021 I listened to episode 296 of the Wise Traditions Podcast which was about being closer to the land and the food you grow/produce.
Letting you get the first taste is truly a loving gesture.🥰
Raising Boer Goats with other animals as well plus one of my goats just had twin boys !
Nothing better than fresh goat yogurt in the morning, afternoon, evening, snack time, pre-snack, second snack...
I learned something today. We drink goat's milk and have been wanting to use it other ways, like cheese and yogurt. Thank you for demonstrating the yogurt.
btw, your wife does love you for sure. She is a "keeper".
She loves you so much! And me and my daughter love watching you guys and your adventures!
Ducks and chickens for eggs, cow had been milk and a calf for meat but not currently bred, geese and a couple rabbits for pets, Nigerian goat for future breeding and milk when she's a little older, old male turkey just hanging around now, various cats for mice, aussie pet dog and great parents ad livestock guardian. We had milking goats awhile ago and always had trouble milking them stubborn goats! They also kept escaping too.. Daughter and grandchildren are making plans for what to do. Love your family. Blessings.
I have not milked my goats yet. Thanks for the info. I am going to make some goat yogart.
I'm new to raising 3 female Nigerian dwarf goats and love it! It's been 7 months and I'm still so nervous about everything and if I'm doing everything correct. I'm hoping to breed them this year and have them for dairy. I've been raising chickens for years and currently have 13 chickens. I also make yogurt for years now with raw milk I buy from a local farm. I don't heat it too much to keep the benefits of keeping it raw.
you heat it to kill any harmful bacteria. then cool it then add the yeast
Wow! That Cody!! He is certainly keeping you guys on your toes, right? Mike you are so funny "I never claimed to be the smartest one here!!". Actually you guys make an amazing team. Your plan to make a well oiled team has worked. You all bring your own individual, awesome gifts to the field. Lacy is so fabulous, always ready with herbs and slaves to take care of everyone's ailments. I would love for her to do some videos on those things and go in depth and detailed classes for us. Thank you for bringing us (your fit farm fam) along.
Thats what im talking about im so glad and happy to see lacie making stuff ..please lacie show us how u make ur homemade lotions and body butters and what ever else u make homemade love learning from you...i would love to learn to live like you guys and one day meets yous ..my name steph abd husband is clint and we hv too daughters and i want to get away from the city life and the government way.....
It was the look after the “I do love you” for me 🥰😭
I know, right?
"and I do love you." So sweet.🥰 I never knew it was so easy to make yogurt. I may have to try it!
We've been raising purebred Nubians about 8 years down in Alabama, we like you have the chickens, ducks, dogs, n cats. Nubians are beauties, most goats are cuties.
I have a sheep.2 goats.2 dogs and 8 hens, for fresh eggs. That's great news that the teet is healing.
Hi.... Mike Dickson and Lacie nice to see you, thank you for showing your video homestead chickens duck goose farmer garden 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 👕🐔🐓🐣 🐥🐕🐐🐝🌱🌺🌹🌿🌻🌼🌸🍀🌷🏡🎥👍👍👍
If you have an instant pot, making yogurt is bunches easier. I've used slow cooker to make yogurt before too. The instant pot can't be beat.
Both cows AND GOATS have udders also refereed to as a bag, (known as a mammary systems). A Goats have 1 mammary systems which is divided into two halves, each half of the udder has 2 teats, A cow has an udder(bag) comprised of 'four chambers'. These chambers are referred
I'm glad things are going better with the goats! Hobbles are intended to go above the hock of the goat, not around her ankles, but what you are doing seems to be working. If she learns to kick them off her ankles, try putting them on higher.
The two of you are so darn cute! Thanks for sharing your yogurt making process.!
Cody loves playing with your children 🙏🏽 Love your videos. Would love to learn more about the benefits and preparation of herbal saps and medicinal preps especially for colds for underage children 2-3 year olds, from your wife. Really enjoy listening to her teachings thank you both for your videos.🥰 so look forward to your videos makes my day lol🙏🏽
HAPPY VALENTINES DAY YA ALL!!! STAY YOUNG!
I raise chicken children cats and dogs. I think it's great you guys use your resources in so many ways. I feel like I'm always learning something. Thank you guys. God bless!
I have 13 chickens 🐓 that I got last summer. They all are laying, sometimes I get a dozen eggs a day.
I think the goats are so cute!
Hello, first off love yalls videos so much. So what i am raising here in North Texas. I have 4 laying hens, 1 rooster, 1 cat, 1 husband, and 4 boys lol. I have been slowly doing more homemade things such as bread, cookies. More baking things. But since we live in town we can't really do alot. But last year I did start a garden. Didn't get much out of it. UT this year I hope to get more produce put of my garden. Sending yall lots of love from Texas
That was easy instructions. And I loved the sweet ending. 💐💖
I use hobbles as well. They actually go above the hock. I know none of the pictures on the hobble sales pages show it but that's the way they work. The hobbles are supposed to disengage the tendon so the goat has to focus on standing vs kicking.
Nice job on the yogurt. I still can't make one thick enough to my liking using goats milk.
hey 😊 I love your videos. we currently have cows, horses, mules, donkeys, chickens, dogs and cats lol i just took a steer we raised to the butcher and so looking forward to quality beef.
My instant pot doesn't have a yogurt button on it so when I make mine I do it in my dehydrator. Works great!
We have five goats due in the next few weeks and I am so excited to have goat milk again. I've made yogurt before but not had much luck with goat milk yogurt. I do look forward to trying again.
We make kefir instead of yogurt. It has a broader array of probiotics. You get the grains in a mason jar of milk at room temperature and get a quart of kefir each day.
I like Goat milk soap, but that yogurt looks yummy! I had no idea it was that simple. Thank you Lacie!
Terrific video, thanks for sharing!
I make goat and cow yogurt all the time. We love to add it to fruit smoothies or to mix in a little fruit pie filling. I use it in place of sour cream or even cream cheese when I'm cooking, also. Yum!
I was making my own yogurt at home with cows milk. Then we sold our home and moved to SC a wk ago. I didn't think making yogurt was possible while living in a travel trailer. I purchased an Instapot but I have done very little cooking in it. I think I will try making some yogurt in the instapot.
That looks yummy and indeed very simple. I will do some reasearch on using a slow cooker as I do not have one of those Instapots. You are such a lovely, loving couple with such mutual respect, kudo's to you
Aww. Y’all are so sweet. 🥰
I have made my own yogurt. I feel like I used the wrong culture it wasn't as thick as I would have liked. But I will be doing another batch this week. I am glad you made this video. It reminded me that I needed to make another batch. lol
I have to strain it to get it to be what I want. There will be whey that separates out.
FYI when using raw milk you do not need to heat the milk up to 180. Heat to 110 an skip the cool down! I am a lazy cook too. I actualltvmake mine in the instant pot yogurt setting for 24 hours skip the first process you did all together.
Definitely gonna save this video! I am going to make my own as well. 🥰
Thank you for showing 😊🙏❤️. And I'm glad Libby is doing okay 🎉🎉
I’m raising chickens and hatching more this spring! Thanks for the upload
Huh…. Very interesting. I love my InstaPot 😜❤️ No, I don’t make yogurt. I’ve been getting into Oatgurt 😊
I have made yogurt but never in an insta pot! I need to try it that way!
Never make yogurt before, but will try after see how easy it is to make. 💙💙💙🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
We have dogs , a cat , a bird , rabbits , turtle and tons of worms. I raise worms to help with my garden fertility .
Thank you for explaining the yogurt process so well Lacie! I’m a lazy cook too and any time I can simplify a process I’M IN🙌 Mike likes it better than store bought so I’m sure I will to 🙌
she can bring it to the 185 temp by leaving it in the pot and use the saute ..button for about 2 1/2 minutes unless she has a boil button
So awesome! I have to try this. I have a mini instapot & I think it has a yogurt button.
Hey, I asked how we're y'all going to feed your- self during the Land Sabbath this year? I like your blog/ post very much. It is a toss-up on which are my favorite yours or Homestead Heart blog, both of them are excellent programs for children and adults God keep blessing your family, Amen
We are raising more animals.
Maybe you should wait a little longer that could still be painful and hobbling her it's not the right thing to do and possibly antibiotics would help
That's an easy way to make yogurt and it looks creamy and Mike deserves the treat. 🙂 God Bless.
Raw milk is mill time better.....only if goats are sick that shouldn't be good...baby is the cutest...thank you for not taking too much milk and to save for the baby 🍼
Easy peasy.... no I've never made yogurt but that does look easy👌
I have made yogurt for 45 years! When I got my instant pot, wow what a game changer! Love instant pot yogurt !! My Mom and Sister put in a monthly order of yogurt! I use A-2 milk works great! I raise Cochin Bantams chickens and Jumbo Cornish Quail! And a huge garden!
Would love to know how to make yogurt in an instant pot. Care to pass on a recipe?
@@donnastevens8832 Lisa Bass from Farmhouse on Boone right here on youtube has an easy to follow way of making it in the instant pot. I started doing it that way. Super easy!
Havent made uet but plan on making it soon
I made my yogurt in the crockpot. Comes out pretty good.
That looked super easy. Our friends have goats. I think we may have to do this.
I’ve made cows milk yogurt many times. I use a yogurt from the store for my starter too.
Hey guys thanks for sharing this video, I’ve never made my own yogurt before.
As nouns the difference between udder and teat is that udder is part of domestic milk-giving animal that expresses milk, especially cow also goat, sheep, yak see mammary gland while teat is the projection of a mammary gland from which, on female mammals, milk is secreted. So, Utter is the boob and the teat is the nipple.
You are such a great couple!!
God bless!
I raise dairy goats, have a small flock of heritage sheep for fiber. Chickens, Muscovy ducks & meat rabbits. I also have 2 horses, cats, 3 LGD's & a stock dog. Love my critters!!
I don't have an insta pot but I use a heating pad and towel under mine and then wrap it in a good heavy bath towel. It is so easy and good.
The entire sac that hangs down is the udder, the teats hang gown from the udder, same terminology for both cows and goats
I have made yogurt with the warmth of the oven light.
You should say happy Valentine's day.
Never made yogurt before it sounds like something I would like to try making, Thanks for sharing.
We make it in our instant pot too and it's super easy and delicious
That looks soooo much easier than the yogurt-making process I remember my Mammaw using. After the culture was stirred into the milk, she poured it into pint jars and put it in the oven for 8 hours. I don't remember the temperature she used.
I make my yogurt in the oven, but I don't turn it on. The pilot light in my oven keeps it right around 108 degrees which works well. I like mine to ferment for 24 hours because I like it more tangy and thick.
The teat is the nipple, the mammary tissue is an udder on any milk animal. Cows have 4 teats, goats have 2, but they both have udders
Yep, I remember my Mom making yogurt. I like making plain yogurt smoothies, salad dressing, veggie dips and parfait with fruit & honey. I never liked it either until I made it my way lol. Can’t find one with lactobacillous *and* bifidarous anymore. We need both for homeostasis in our gut health. All plain ones in my store are the dreaded fat free, not whole milk. So I also use kombucha and ferments to supplement. I was wondering why you didn’t put Momma goat in the uncovered pen to begin with. Glad baby Cody has a nice cover too now. He looked adorable with those beads on! ❤️
So cute goats.
I have not done it but wanted to try!
Oh no... we are off grid .. 8 hours is too long
happen to making raw cow milk yogurt right now . a quart at a time . every other day . i do the thermos method.
Thanks for the video. I am gonna make my first yogurt ever!!! I will let you know how it goes. And what was the salve?
Ihave done yogurt going back some 20 yrs or so. Made it in little jars ( individual portions). Was cow's milk. Have never tried goat's milk yogurt. Recently noticed some at our supermarket but pricey.
Both goats and cows have an udder and teats.
We had similar issues with our nubian.
