As a customer service person in a call centre you are thought to use the clients name 2-3 times in a phone call, it makes the client happy to hear their own name and gives a feeling of being personally helped to the customer and less the feeling of calling with a call centre operator who is actually doing this as band work
Personally I use the customer service persons name 2-3 times in a call, and always end with thank you , have a nice day, this confuses them because according to their script they should be ending the call this way, it’s fun to get an answer back like: sun, thank hou, the same for you, Euh,

You probably should NOT have mentioned that VPN that you used in China. If you ever go back, you will now LIKELY be arrested and held for a few decades. That also means DON"T GO Macau or Hong Kong as those are Chinese territory AND your name is now probably on a subversives list since their massive and autonomous search engines actually DO LOOK at foreign content and CZcams comments!
China actually takes such comments pretty seriously! And YUP as some Canadians have recently found out the hard way, they do act irrationally! I suggest you edit that comment out OR don't ever go back to China.
      .
Don't let that stop you though from using a VPN, soon enough all the Millennials in China won't STAND for old-fogie government officials in China TELLING THEM what to do and how to live!

He's actual originally from Iran but went to SFU (Simon Fraser University) and got his credentials from there and since SFU is probably one of the BEST research universities (Top 15) in all of North America, I would say he DEFINITELY HAS the education background to do these videos. In case you're wondering, from an anthropological background, Iranians and Indians are both of Indic ethnicity so they actually are quite similar.
My earlier comment about using his VPN in China was to express a sincere concern that if he goes BACK THERE and since he is a Canadian citizen, China right now is not looking too kindly on Canadians right now because of the Huaweii CFO executive detention/extradition request by the USA. Since VPN's are actually illegal in China, admitting using it IN China online can end up as a 20 year sentence in a far north of Beijing prison camp breaking rocks 7 days a week if he ever goes back!
China is arresting/detaining Canadians left, right and centre right now, so I am asking him to be a bit more secretive when going OUTSIDE of Canada and using systems and products that are technically illegal in that destination country. I'd prefer that he be safe rather than sorry!
That said, I am am pretty sure the young Chinese Millennials are getting FED UP with old-fogie Chinese authorities telling them how to live their lives. For the young people in China, I say START RISING UP! It's YOUR LIFE --- Time to TAKE BACK CONTROL OF IT from the old fogies! YOU are the STRONG ONES --- YOU YOUNG PEOPLE have the .M.U.S.C.L.E. -- Time to FORCEFULLY kick some ossified old-fogies off their sanctimonious pedastals!

In one hand he had the "power saver" with a alligator clip leading to neutral attached.
The other hand he held an alligator clip to phase.
That's almost optimum conditions for a hand to hand shock.
Anyway it is 120V right? Still normally i can imagine him not applying actual line voltage or using an isolation transformer or whatever.

There is one relatively rare circumstance where PFC would make a difference in residential electricity usage. If the utility is supplying electricity with a bad power factor on incoming power. In which case, all your electric motor devices, such as an air conditioner, will have to draw more current to operate. This happened to my parents, because the local distribution transformer had a problem that was supplying power with a very bad power factor. When they replaced it, my parent’s electricity bill dropped nearly 50% on average. The electricity supplier denied this was possible and refused to refund the overcharges for any prior months.

Yeah I'll do electronics too and I'm more into the theory of it, but I can tell that he's not really lying. But I noticed he said something about large companies using a lot of electricity will draw that power that he explains of. On the back of my little doohickey it has a draw load at 30 kW.Actually I had to get the label back out of the trash that says; useful load. So do I have to run 30 kW through to see any significant change? I thought to myself "something industrial." But then again, the wording? What do you think about what I found in mine? I'll tell you I got a bridged rectifier, LED ceramic and electrolytic capacitor resistor and a fuse oh and a thermistor. And when I removed all the sticky label that held on or held the specifics there's a vent on the case of this do hickey. Wonder what the case was actually meant for? Because, It seems pretty clear it wasn't going to heat up due to that the ventilation was cut off. You know what they say? Power is the equivalent of heat expressed in wattage. I'm going to take a picture of it, send it to my brother because it is his, and I'm going to see what I can do with the circuit. Power supply. I need to make a power supply anyway. But here's another thing why would the capacitor be rectified to accept DC voltage, and I know it's DC rated. Has to be. Otherwise what's an AC capacitor doing in a DC circuit? I mean, it's not oscillating. Okay I'm done

    • @1framistan
      @1framistan Před 3 lety +9

@@scottreday9377 I can only give you a couple tips.... as I am not a motor expert. I worked with transistors and circuit boards. Every AC capacitor I ever saw in a motor was simply a START capacitor. If you put DC into an AC capacitor, it will not hurt it as long as you don't exceed the DC rated voltage.... but... you can't put AC into a DC capacitor because it will likely POP. The 30KW rating of the motor would be maximum. If the motor has no load.... it will use far less than that. If you attach the motor to something like a compressor, then the wattage will go way up. The motor on my air conditioner uses 13 amperes at 220 volts. That is about 3000 watts. If I removed the motor and let it run without the compressor attached.... then the amps would go way down to maybe 2 amperes. 2 times 220 equals 440 watts with NO LOAD. Thats about all I can tell you about motors.

I'm a high level electrician and in heavy industry where we do use LARGE capacitor (banks) for power factor correction. The reason is that while we're only initially paying for the REAL power we use, we get penalized if our power factor (cos of the phase angle) wanders too far from unity. We don't actually get charged on any metered use of reactive power. From memory the old electro-mechanical power box meters went out of their way to measure both current and voltage in such a way that only the in phase component of the current (the real power component) would rotate the meter. I would assume the modern electric ones follow the same idea's. I did enjoy the presentation, and letting a bit of the smoke out does make things a bit more interesting and memorable.

In other words, yeah I can see that he was knowledgeable, but I also have on the back of my setup it has a useful load. And that being 30 kW. When you started talking about the industrial amount of power that the se companies use that get charged for that apparent power. never even knew about anything of, having a knowledge of apparent power. So another rhetorical question I have, is if he's going at the second phase of the three phase electric where is the third phase? And what's that doing? I can also see that he says to get it back in sync with one of the phases, and it would be more useful power but it would hum like some crazy if it had the third phase. I mean really whack-hum. Draw current enough to run a vacuum cleaner your whole house would shake hahaha

Frankly they "supply" ac power. How one uses it is what makes the difference between apparent and real power. Lastly and more than likely, aside from taxes and maybe a monthly connection fee, they are probably only billing you for your real power use.

With the new "smart" meters they can unfortunately start charging for apparent power instead of real power. And that can be done remotely. If they do that then suddenly things with capacitive droppers like time switches and will cost about 10 times as much to run and most LED lamps will cost between twice and ten times as much to run depending on their circuitry.
Sadly, a simple capacitor won't fix most electronic power factor issues. But it's a nice case and can be used as a shocker. (but with a much bigger capacitor)

If they do it, and some people in comments claim in their country they charge reactive power, then a proper power factor saver is in order! Also I'm sure suppliers will start designing smarter to beat the competitors and save customers more money. Still I doubt it if a home power factor would be ever that awful. Imagine BCHydro starts charging surcharge if power factor drops by 10% for industries, so homes should be in much better shape.

But I have seen no indication that they plan to charge based on it.

One of my biggest hurdles when learning anything dealing with electricity is the fear of shorting stuff. It's helpful that you do it on purpose to demonstrate that its not that big of a deal if you understand what's happening

Less voltage means more load and more amperes.
So capacitor job is to just store the voltage with current and to give an initial kick start to any motor, for tubelight it's the choke. So capacitor has nothing to do with the electric bill reducing.

Something more importnat that you forgot to mention is that most appliancies nowdays use switch mode power supplies and because of the way they work the current they consume is not a sine wave (or same shape with voltage) and this creates another kind of reactive power and its called "Deformed Power". Adding a capacitor to the power lines doesnt do any saving, instead it actualy makes the shape of current worse and increases reactive power!!! It might was doing something in the older days with linear supplies but you don't pay reactive power at all so its useless!!!!!!!!!

Most of the power banks which use to charge phones seems to consume power (very small amount but still does)even though the power bank is not connected to the phone. Mainly may be because of the IC that consumes continues power that waits for the user to push that button , I don't have enough equipment to check that out . Can You help me out ? And can we prevent that ? I am intending to make a big power bank. Also 18650 batteries parallel to each other charges each other if ones voltage is lower than the other . Can we prevent that as well ?

@@the_danksmith134 the non linearity of the charge caused by the non reactive components in the switch mode power supplies creates a harmonic currents, which in turns running through the impedances of the power supply distorts the power supply's sin wave . now the harmonic currents is the problem you are talking about(along with the low power factor ),to solve this problem we can either use reactive pfc (configurations of L and C filters ) or in high power we can use active pfc (many structures are there like boost/buck converter)

The only way a capacitor could help save electricity is a large array to store it for when there's power failure elsewhere. But as it isn't going to produce A/C without a power inverter, it's practically useless to explore for the time being
