How FAST Is The Supercharged Jaguar S-Type R? 0-60 MPH, 1/4 Mile, Donuts, Burnouts

- The new transmission is in my Jaguar S-Type R and it's a blast to drive! Now that it's on the road it's time to see what kind of numbers it puts down. We take it out with the Dragy to get some 0-60 and 1/4 mile times, then destroy whats left of the old Raptor tires on the car. The new tires go on this weekend so we better not leave any tread on the old ones. Time for some donuts and attempts at doing a burnout, or maybe a good launch. If you want to know how glorious it sounds with gutted cats and cherry bombs, this is your video.

This car is so underrated love this car.
Just got one wow
Car is trash😂it's worthless. U can buy one in California for $3000 and under with low mileage
@@TreyGoose such a lie if u look on auto trader you’ll see they start at 8000 for a decent mileage

Shit car. Slow, ugly. Consumption like tank.
As an owner of an original 4.0 supercharged AJ-V8 I can understand why Jaguar underbuilt this engine. Their customer base contains nearly zero drag racers, and a hell of a lot of middle-aged professional men and women who appreciated the smooth and effortless acceleration made possible by gentle supercharging of a V8 engine. It’s the next-best thing to a normally aspirated V12..
Along with the torque benefit, second owners of this car like me have discovered that, as with my ‘01 XJR, this engine is pretty much bulletproof. Provided you swap out the original plastic cam chain tensioners and water pump with factory metal replacements, you’ll find yourself in my fortunate situation. At 156,000 miles my 2001 XJR with supercharged 4.0 AJ-V8 (which I do not drag race or use for burnouts) is as fast as new - or faster! It doesn’t burn oil and continues to deliver 21 mpg at highway speeds.
This steel-bodied X-308, which cost then-owner Ford hundreds of millions to develop, was in its day the world's finest production sport sedan. It was faster then AMG's legendary Hammer, and yet was opulently luxurious, its interior a combination of hardwood and leather like only the British can do, and its exterior noted by many as the most beautiful post-WWII sedan.
My wrench knows several XJR and S-Type owners with 250,000 miles plus on the clock and still running smoothly, with no major component failures. (Except for the German ZF transmission, which is another story.) Mind you, I live in California, where any well-built and maintained car will run forever. Except, as we see here, when abused by adolescents like this guy who pick them off Craig's List for a few thousand and drive them into the ground.
My advice to potential Jag owners is to purchase a 1998-2003 X-308 series XJR sedan (not the S-Type shown here, which is cheesy by comparison) and find a private, non-dealer Jag specialty shop to keep it running smoothly and affordably. If there’s no such shop near you, do not buy a Jaguar. It is a highly complex Euro-Luxury sedan and will be destroyed by your local tube-up shop. Check around to see if there’s a local Jaguar club. They will set you straight and help you prevent making a fool of yourself like this guy.
Or you know... Buy a cheap S-Type R, fix it yourself, hoon it, then sell it and buy a car that isn't a Jaguar. I enjoy the crap out of my life 🍻
Watched this entire video just to find out you don't actually know much about this car, lol.
I love the shots Zack got of the smoke rolling over the back of the car with the sun shining thru it... epic!
He was on it! I love the smoke rolling out of the gas cap 🔥
I used to commute an hour each way so I bought this as a comfortable daily. It was great, even in snow, with very few problems. If you follow the service intervals or get them done at Jag/Land Rover, the car would likely clock 300K miles, easily. You have to use the OG J-shift automanual feature to get it in true sport mode for high revs, though.
I watched this a year ago when I had my V6 SE. And I was like “man I so want an R” i now have an R and I just wanted to let you know. I to had an absolute nightmare with lug nuts AND....lug studs. I only wanted to paint my brake callipers. And had nothing but trouble with rounded lugs and bad threads on studs. I got everything all fixed after a nightmare of chiselling to then find a lock nut rounded. I then had to get the chisel back out. 5 hours late. I was back in business. No more security lock nuts for me. I finally got to the tyre place feeling confident with my new nuts and studs. For them to find a crack in my rear alloy wheel :( I nearly collapsed with the stress. Luckily a place down the road were able to weld the wheel. So after 3 weeks of hell im back driving her. Awesome machine. And the brake callipers look awesome. In red with R stickers on also. 🙌
Nice man give me a follow on ig chris_diego214 I have an STR too
My 2000 S-type has the 3.0l v6 and I can do standing burnouts. Just hit the traction control button and floor it. I also know for a fact it has a limited slip but not sure if that was stock on the car. Always leave 2 sets of tracks.
I guess the gearbox was in sport mode. Should do around 5 seconds. 0-60
I have a 2000 jaguar xjr. These engines sound so good!
Fellow STR owner/driver.....sport mode, gear change manually, and throw in a Cold Air Ram system......things change. This car is 'governed' at 155 mph but by manually shifting in/through sport mode 167-178 mph is a possibility. Why 178? because that's the top speed rated for most z rated tires. After 178 mph things can go BOOM.
Same but from the xkr perspective here
i got mine to 175 put the under drive pulley upgrade she"ll really fly
@Podge yes
I'd suggest actually keeping the original air intake system
Lucid Windows Studio agreed. Currently on my second STR if you start messing with air flow you’ll get crazy codes including misfire codes and gearbox faults. Car will feel like it’s dying at a stop light.
not really a Jag fan but I have to admit this one looks pretty good. (sounds good too)
heres my 2 cents for anyone thinking of buying any of the jag r models with the 4.2 supercharged.i have a 04 xjr thats basicly the same drivetrain but a bit lighter because mine has the aluminum body.great engine and trans,I think there easy to work on,most reliable of the jags, parts are available and pretty inexpensive from ebay.alot of the suspension parts are the same as the Lincoln ls,mercron sp fluid works in the trans and is half the price as the more exspensive stuff out there, yes def change the trans fluid and filter(built into pan) its very easy to do.with proper maintenance they will run a very long time.as for performance there fast for what they are and will surprise alot of cars, stock my car ran 13.2 at 108 0-60 in 4.8 sec my guess this str maybe the intercooler pump was not working and it pulled timing or not good 93 oct fuel and pulled timing or it was hot, super charger was hot, weather was humid, etc they all factor in.they call the supercharger heaton for a reason.lol .for mods 12% pulley, intake tube, filter, exhaust work and should run mid to low 12s but thats about the best its going to get for a few reasons, not much more in the way of performance parts out there, limited by stock m112 supercharger(porting doesnt do much)open dif, crappy rear end gear(2.81) etc but they can be had cheap, low 12s is pertty fast, drives like a dream, and it can be deadly from a roll and will do a legit 170mph.make sure trac control is off, sport mode is on and it will spin the tire as long as you want.cool little trick too if your racing from a dig leave trac control on off the line to control wheel spin, once you get out of the hole turn it off.
I Just got my Jag 2day....I love it!
I got the 03 STR - just curious on those exhausts - they sound amazing - which company are they?
Love jaguars! Do tuning myself!
Where?
Amazing and underrated car
Not underrated just not popular because of the high maintenance costs. I had a 3.0v6 in black and it was a head turner. Especially kids loved it because of the unique look with the unique hood ornament.
Gee guys I have had Jags all my life and I never knew I could do this with Jag's. None of my Jaguars have ever sounded like this when idling either. They have certainly taken a great car to a whole new level.
I own a JAGUAR 2011 XF, I'm 21 years old and it's been a dream car since since 2016, I'm not a Mercedes and BMW fan, but I'm saving for a Mercedes S class 2014

JR i think you should do a top speed run as thats what this car is really good at.
Very powerful car I love it
2 Tons of supercharged fun 😂
Press and hold the traction control button for 10 seconds. Try that, works on my XKR 😉👍🏻
Does that shut it off?
@@Aaron-cy6pu Absolutely. I can't believe he didn't know that in the vid.
Makes a huge difference.
Nothing better than a big bonnet with an Emblem up front to aim with. Be interesting to see how how reliable this can be.
Not made for reliable, it's a luxury car
Car was not designed to burnout, it just grabs the road and goes. Donuts are fun in that car though. These cars have no slip diff, I was annoyed as well when I found out. Also, not sure how you were launching, but this isn't the kind of car you can just mash the pedal all the way down. But once you get the right feel for the throttle, you'll get faster times.
Not sure what's wrong with your TCS, it should turn off from the button. Mine does as expected.
Sounds good
I got a s type 4.0 and i shut off trackshion control off and it spins like hell
I'm in the 3.0 but she still goes
Torque converter loving every second of this. Oops I mean.
My thoughts exactly :D
Miałem kiedyś takiego białego ogień 🔥
Owned 2 S type Rs, a 2003 and a 2005, the power being the same, the 2005 has lighter wheels, lighter hood, slighter different front and back bumper and tail lights. The cars are fun and pretty luxurious for their time and price. Only problem is they are not very modifiable with few brands making any parts to increase power. Also the engine is the basically the same one found in the Lincoln town car, with an increase from 4.0 to 4.2 liters and a super charger slapped on it. Highly recommend 2005 + as some reliability issues where fixed post 2005 models.
You mean the Lincoln Ls which is basically the same car.
Ingaz: I see one I want it's a 03 with a maf sensor issue... What's your advice??
@@chrisiverson5648 Highly recommend a 2005+ model as the 2003 has some issues that where fixed post 2005. But a maf sensor issue should be an easy fix. a maf sensor are about 50-100 dollars and make sure the air intake filter is clean.
@@ingaz6565: Tru... Thank you bro, I will do..
Ingaz I’m looking at a 2005 for 2000? Good deal ?
JR I own an 05' and I have the same sagging rear headliner and visor cover I'm seeing in yours, so I figure its a known issue? Are you having any thoughts of fixing them in yours?
Cars are pretty typical. If you have an ‘uncaused’ issue then it’s probably a design flaw
I get that this is what you do, but you should use the Miata for hooning. Seems like the Jag should be used for driving with the good woman, Amberghini.
Have a good weekend.
Gotta get my money's worth out the old tires! Amberghini is super excited to finally take this out when the new tires are on 🍻
What app did you use for that 0-60 clip?
Also great video and I love that car!
It said on the screen. You have to pay a little for the app
Good job
I love this car
These Autobahn bruisers are a blast to drive around! 💪
I could actually smell the rubber through my computer monitor.
Always wanted one
Nice R! But it should do 0-60 in 5 seconds. 6,5 seconds is 3.0 territory. 7.2 seconds on 3.0 stock 0-100 Kmh (about 6,9 0-60)
Used to have a 03 str... such a rare and nice driving vehicle. Just expensive if it needs parts replaced
You should talk to Cleetus about getting those tires lit up.
I’m actually debating on getting a s-type r. How much more expensive on average do you think it is to fix than a more generic car like a civic
Doughnut in the rampage
helll yeahhh doggggy!
That ain't no doggy... That's one big Cat 😌
The 14;49 quarter mile time is not so bad. One of the iconic muscle cars here in Australia is the 1971 Ford Falcon GTHO which had the 351 Cleveland V8, 4 barrel, hi-comp and hot cam internals, top loader gearbox and a locker diff and it was a 14:6 quarter mile car so your time is not that bad at all.
1971? vs a 2000+ car, doesn't seem very immpresive
Not that I dont like the s type
I owned an STR as well, if you want an amazing burnout, slick the tires with oil, I did a 200-500 ft rolling burnout by doing that. The reason it won’t do a burnout is cause the rear brakes are too huge, a lot of weight on the rear, and very wide tires providing too much grip. Oil those tires up and you’ll be good to go, if you keep doing it in the drive you’ll destroy the transmission, take it from me :)
Moron
Where you get the extra 35hp from? My r annihilates the tires
I live in Wichita at 21st and Ridge and between the gangs of rocket bikes and the little boys in cars with their big exhaust tips racing up and down that area at night, we have no law enforcement!
1/4 mile time on the new skins??
i have a regular s-type, and recently used the select shift mode, 2-3-4, and it performs better, but i don't really use 2nd gear
Thanks for the info.. I really needed it
@@yamounacici5156 3rd gear is probably best for the street roads. u should also not shift down until you completely stop the car
Yeah that's a cool feature and the 3.0 is still very fun to drive
not sure what's wrong with that R. did someone cut out the exhaust and kill the power? i've worked on many of these and they break loose every time you take off fast.
Just bought one at a police auction for 900
Man im looking at one for $1700 but has a salvage issue. Big no no lol
Country Boys!!!
my XJR does burn outs at 25 mph if i don't watch it. Lastly, if you hit the traction button.... it shuts that off... If you hit trac off and sport mode is on, its a whole nother thing man.....
Donuts in a grandfather clock 😲🤣love it, except that front grill 🤢 💩 😆
Some light mod will give you power you want. Decongest it and play with computer best plugs and coils you can find
The S Type R has not 425 horse power as sayed in the video. It has exactly 398 horse power. And officialy it takes 5,6 seconds to drive 100 kmh or 60 miles. I think the reason why the car in the video is slower is that it has a motor demage. You can hear the rattle from the motor when the Jaguar is driven faster. So the test is not representative.
Ha I had those Pilots put on the M3.
U should used "waze" it has all the street speed build into it.
This is a drag strip timing system with a 10Hz GPS it’s more accurate than a VBOX and usually dead on to any dragstip timing system. 🍻 I use Waze daily!
That 2nd person and air tank dont help
I have a s type r and it bruns out like crazy.? Urs probably has something wrong.
I drove test a jaguar s type r before and I'm impressed

Only reason to get a Lexus over jaguar is the jaguar is crazy expensive to buy and maintain

My s type R is all stock and you have to turn off the traction control and hit the SPORT "S" BUTTON ON SHIFTER TO CHANGE SHIFT POINTS. AND AS I SAID ALL STOCK AND MY S TYPE IS AT 10 TO 12 SECONDS AND AFTER BUTTONS PRESSED I GET BELOW 9 SECS SOMETHINGS WRING WITH YOUR JAG BUDDY MINE WILL BURN OUT WITH TRACTION ON AND WITHOUT ITS SPINS PAST 2ND AND CHIRPS 3RD
I literally just had the same lug nut problem with my S Type
Those lug nuts suck! You can get a matching replacement from your Mitsubishi dealer but it would be way better to change them all 🤙
Still better than my stock s500
Cool
Reason why it is not as fast as you hoped is that transmission short shifts.
9:19 do one also the other way so his beard will be straight again.
how much did you pay for the transmission rebuild?mines is going out
btw ive tried everything to do a burnout and can't would be awesome if it did

but they both share same engine same 400 hp they look slow cuz they are heavy cars
@@carlossosa2940 I heard the XJR, unlike this STR is made of aluminium so it should be a lot lighter. Also the 0-60 nimber stock was around a 1sec faster iirc.
Extra weight.. Whats outside temp bad tires.. Whats your altitude.. And are u using 93 ir 94 octane?... Car is quick but not 1/4 demon.. Also can do 155 plus.. And chip it..
something wrong with that powertrain or engine... had the same car in the lincoln LS flavour 3.9 v8 but no supercharger... little newer but it did standing burnouts with no trouble and did 0-60 a bit faster
