  • While the Anglo Saxon media does not get China wrong all the time, it does get China wrong a lot of the time.
Professor Kishore Mahbubani, renowned diplomat and Chairman of Aggregate Asset Management, gave his views in the Aggregate Future Series.
Aggregate Asset Management is one of the earliest and rare fund management companies that aligns clients’ interests with our own - we do not charge management fees; clients only pay performance fees when they enjoy absolute returns.

I have been following Western media coverage of China since at least the 1990's.
If I had based my understanding of China solely on their coverage, then I would have thought that China has been continously failing upwards into the second biggest economy in the world.
They have been saying for decades now that China is failing. But if you look at the actual data, China has been succeeding in almost any metric.
I wish I had a time machine so I could take people back to China in the 1990's and then take them forward to today's China. They would blow their minds.
Now, I am not saying China is a paradise on earth. They have problems and issues. But then again, which country doesn't have those??? China is certainly not the hell on earth that Western media keep portraying them as.

@@angusmckenzie9622 Not being inferior. But as soon as I arrived at UK, that was what we realized. When we were young, we never had that problem. Only when we started to leave the land of Asia into the land of white, then the white people kept on reminding us that they owned us. And when we started to work for MNC companies, this was even more so. That is from 30 years of working experience working for many top companies and the conclusion it came to. Once upon a time, we have these white people coming from the top, and started to teach us “strategy”. And when I told them us the Chinese have a long term vision than most of you white people, they don’t like it. The thing is, we live here, customers can also be our friends, so our plans have to be 10-20 years long; whereas someone just arriving from UK or US being a boss for 2-5 years, their vision is short term, becoz once they earn enough money, they leave, whereas us, we live with our customers for decades. So our strategy is always strong and longer than these outsiders. Unfortunately we are always being reminded that we are not English/American and our views (Chinese views) have always been discounted and discarded. Sometimes it’s very obvious, sometimes it’s very subtle. Again. I am speaking from a 30 years of working experience. So it’s not interior. I had to teach many Chinese people to stand up just becoz u cannot argue with them effectively in their mother tongue, it does not mean they are right. Today, I pity many White people who once upon a time were the Master here in Asia. But time has changed, and many white people cannot stand that disappearance of their superiority that they once enjoyed. They could not longer take our women and use them as slaves like they did back in the 1970s, 1980s. And let me tell u, many of them felt really bitter about these changes. That is why u now get what America are doing to China. Sheer jealousy. In the old days, if there is a nerd in the class, keep getting As in everything - u hv 2 choices, u work harder than the other person, or, u start victimizing the person, disrupt the person as much s possible, so that u get the A’s instead. That is exactly what is happening. If my competitor is doing worse than me, I win; but not thinking about how can I do it better and make my customer happier so I can get the business. Negative marketing tactic is an effective weapon, but it’s not in my warrior code of honour, if we are going to compete, we need to compete on equal terms.

@@angusmckenzie9622 When we were young, we were told everyone was equal on earth. That was how we were taught in China. In our eyes, there were no Chinese, English, Africans etc.... just people. Then when I arrived at UK at the age of 14, they told me I am yellow. So we got to do lowly jobs like cleaning the shoes for others, or cleaning the toilet, or go and stack the dishes, sitting at the bottom of the table, most coloured people (not just the Chinese, but the Indians, Africans also) had to be like that and only the kids with white skin could sit at the top table & do nothing. So that was for the first time, I learnt racial discrimination. I even looked it up from the dictionary (coz my English was poor) and told the seniors that was what they were doing to us. And they all laughed at me for being naive (I was 14 years old), and beated me up anyway. We regular get beaten up in school - that was just a norm in the UK, u only need to blame yourself for not being White enough. The English said you Chinese lost the war (the opinim war, twice, becoz the British wanna to sell drugs to the Chinese legally and to make profit, but when the Chinese tried to fight back, the Brits did not like it, and started pounding the Chinese with guns and canons, so the Chinese had to apologise to the British and allowed them to continue to sell drugs to the Chinese people), that was why we Chinese are made to serve them the white people. That was the kind of environment we were brought up and for the first time in our lives, we knew skin colour does matter. I never had that feeling in China, at all. So this is not about inferiority complex or not, this is about not letting those people to step on us, ever, again. That is why, China, has to stand up, so we will never be attacked by 8 countries in the same time again, and made our citizens as slaves to the White people, ever, again. In my previous statement, I was being sarcastic. In fact, today, I own a couple of businesses, I employ quite a few people and I pay money to my US/Europe/ANZ partners suppliers. I am quite proud of that, becoz today, the yellow skin people are paying the white people to serve us the Chinese, the so-called inferior Chinese people. I am glad I have finally turned the tide after.... 40 years of trying. Now you know why I said what I said.

"The U.S. records 100 million Covid cases, but more than 200 million Americans have probably had it"
      KEY POINTS
The U.S. has officially recorded more than 100 million confirmed Covid cases, but the actual number is probably at least twice as high.
As the U.S. enters the fourth year of the pandemic, the virus keeps mutating into more transmissible variants, making it even more difficult to control.
About 400 people a day are still dying from the virus and about 5,000 are being admitted to the hospital daily.
“It’s really hard to stop this virus, and that’s one of the reasons why we’ve shifted the focus to hospitalizations and deaths and not just counting cases,” said Jennifer Nuzzo, an epidemiologist, and director of the Pandemic Center at Brown University School of Public Health.
