  • When a patient buzzer or call bell goes off, it can make you feel quite uncertain on what you need to do as student nurses, student midwives, apprentices, and all learners in clinical practice! This video aims to help learners in practice shake the nerves of responding to patient buzzers, gain confidence to help patients, and take advantage of those learning opportunities!
From my experience, there are usually 4 situations you will find yourself in when the patient buzzer goes:
    00:00 Intro
    03:24 1️⃣ For assistance
    06:16 2️⃣ For information
    07:45 3️⃣ Worried about something
    10:10 4️⃣ A machine is alarming
14:12 What you are going to learn & outro
You can answer a nurse call bell, or patient buzzer whenever it goes off, but it is knowing what to do when you are with the patient to resolve their issue. By answering as many patient call bells you will gain so much experience and start to gain a deeper understanding of how to respond to patient needs on the ward. Patients will have many different needs in the clinical area and by experiencing as many different opportunities you can, you will become so much more confident to answer that nurse call buzzer!

    Hi everyone!
I really hope you are all good! Thanks so much for checking this video out. I do hope this helps to relieve the stress around not knowing what you may walk into when patients are buzzing, and you can start to feel amazing for helping out, as well as gain so many valuable clinical experiences.
Do you have any experiences you want to share of answering patient call bells? I remember the first one I answered, and the first thing I blurted out was "I am a student nurse" ... as if to say, "...so don't ask me anything too complicated!" haha!! It gets so much easier the more you answer those calls for help.
    Take care all! :)

Is there a call bell that a quadriplegic with no muscle strength to push a button that sleeps with a bipap where the mask covers the whole mouth and nose that can’t talk can use to alert a caregiver for help?
