So happy you reacted to this. I went to highschool with these guys in Newcastle Australia, and they had it rough. Came from shitty family situations and were bullied until they got popular. They played at our highschool formal(equivalent of Prom) the video was filmed on the Newcastle to Sydney train, a train I am currently on right now 😆 I had friends that were extras in that video. Thanks for the nostalgia blast!

This is nostalgic in so many ways for me. When this album dropped in 1999, I was in Marine Corps basic training. When I got done with that, I came home and saw this was out and purchased it immediately because I used to play a TON of Silverchair songs with my buddies in my "band" that never did anything but jam. I listened to this album so much while at the School of Infantry. It's nuts remembering back 22 years to when I was just 20 years old listening to this sometimes... life moves FAST!

I always felt that Silverchair was held back.. To get anywhere in Australia you realllly have to do what you're told. At the time the grunge scene was taking off in Australia, so bands such as Silverchair/Grinspoon ect were taking off since it was the cool thing.. I felt that when Silverchair went more into prog rock they were left behind.. which was a shame because they had great potential, I wanted more UGH and metal from them personally.

  • @katherinemorelle7115
    @katherinemorelle7115 Před 3 lety +2

This is one of my all time favourite songs. It’s what I would play if someone asked me to describe what it’s like living with mental illness. It just captures it perfectly.
The piano in this is played by David Helfgott, a very famous concert pianist, who was played by Geoffrey Rush in the movie Shine. He himself lived with schizophrenia, making the layers to this song even deeper, imo. And no one at the time expected a teen grunge band to hook up with one of the greatest concert pianists to have lived. It was different.
I think Silverchair is a journey. You start with Frogstomp, when they were only 14 or so. Tomorrow, the lead single off that album, was written by Daniel Johns (guitarist and lead singer) when he was only 13. Then Freak Show added a bit more. Still grunge, but a bit deeper. Then Neon Ballroom (the album this song is from). There was still some grunge, like the song Year 2000 (this album came out in 1999), but it blossomed into this experimental progressive rock sound that no one was expecting, but we really should have (cemetery from Freak Show had hinted at what was to come). Then Diorama, which got even more grand and the musicality was just off the charts. Then Young Modern, which pulled it back a little into a more radio friendly sound, but was still experimental as.
It’s a whole journey. They start off as a nice little rosebud, lovely, but not anything too unusual. Then they blossom into the most gorgeous flower you’ve ever seen, where nothing has ever looked quite like it.
They’re (obviously) one of my all time favourite bands. Their first three albums got me through some extremely rough times as a teenager, and the fourth and fifth grew with me. Amazing, extremely underrated band. Daniel Johns is a musical genius, and I do not say that about many people. And he’s just as good a vocalist as he is a songwriter.

The song was released in 1999 . They were a trio and they came out with the album Frogstomp . They were 15 when they made that album if I remember correctly.

  • @bernadettecarrillo9020

Their first 2 albums were harder for sure Neon ballroom is when they started to be less heavy and more mellow they started their band when they were 15/16 it's insane how good they've been since then..

Do a Reaction to Silverchairs Lead Singers Solo work, post the bands career.
    Daniel Johns, 2 Albums
    Talk or Future Never
Maybe try Aerial Love, Cool on Fire, and Electric.
Youll be blown away at the difference in music.
Even has Hip Hop and R&B/Electronic influences.

This was off their Neon Ballroom album from 1999, so they already had 2 records before this which where both more raw and heavy. Their 2nd album Freak Show is probably their most heavy with more metal elements, and their first album Frog stomp was more raw with more grumble elements. From Neon Ballroom onwards they started to incorporate from orchestral and indie rock elements, especially towards their end. I saw them touring on the Neon Ballroom album in 2000, and it was awesome, and probably my favorite album of theirs along with Freak Show. Really great band.

This was released in 1999. Their first 2 albums were more a combo of grunge and Helmet, so I nearly fell over after hearing/seeing this song live for the first time (from their third album) I think besides Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen, this is the best symphonic rock song I’ve ever heard.

That clip of that dude accidently kicking his food away, was funny AF.
He must of been like: "Aw man!!! I wanted to EAT that!!!"

Why did I find that so funny?

This makes me very happy that you like this song it's one of my favorites from neon ballroom which is their third album. It came out in 99 I believe because they had the anthem to year 2000 and anas song on there. But that whole album is amazing. Also after the young and modern album Daniel went solo and has some amazing work, also check out his side project dream. I will send a link to some of Daniel johns solo work

React to Ana’s Song from the same album which is about the lead singer, Daniel John’s struggles with his eating disorder known as Anorexia. It’s kind of a play on words in a way with the title “Ana’s Song”. Tomorrow and Israel’s Son from their first album Frogstomp are really good. Abuse Me is another good song from Freak Show.

I used to play this album reallyyy freakin loud every day when it came out and my friends hated it lol. They liked their previous more grungy rocky albums better. I loved them all. One great thing about Silverchair was that they changed so much over the years so you got to see so many different sides to them. One of their popular songs from their next album was called Straight Lines. Another good song and very different
