    I think the reason we aren't talking about Hikaru, in turn, also learning about Magnus and his weaknesses, is the implicit concession that Magnus is flat out better chess player. Magnus has no obvious weaknesses that you can take advantage of.
      His weakness may be that he doesn't know every single opening and every single line it can go. That's not much of a weakness, no one knows every opening.
      Another weakness may be that he can't calculate 50 moves ahead, only 49. It's not like anyone else can calculate the 50th move anyway, so they can't take advantage of it.

    Magnus has better memorization skill than hikaru. Hikaru is now the raining world champion on Fischer random chess. A variation of chess that avoids opening theory memorization and forces players to calculate or use their intuition from the very first move.
    People who don't understand chess are taking Hikaru's comment as some sort of ego defense. Hikaru is a phenomenal player who understands his strength and weakness. And his results prove that. He never lost to magnus in Fischer random chess!!!!
    I am not saying this to minimize the talent of Magnus. But I take the sentiment of the great Bobby Fischer, modern chess has become memorization of engine lines and less intuition. The beauty of chess is the intentional aspect of it, that's why I like Fischer Random chess

    I am clearly missinng something. Chess is just a game totally worked out with set openings, moves, traps etc.,... if I learn these and attain a certain level I am simply a robot spewing out the computations of others. Most people are just playing what they have been taught evidently. There is no art. There is no Picasso. It is a bit sad especially if there is no money involved.

    • @flyally632
      @flyally632 Před rokem +7

      That’s actually not it. Magnus is just at a higher level than Hikaru. I’ll give you a similar and more relatable scenario. Imagine you get to have a private conversation with someone you’re about to have a public debate with next week. For the sake of simplicity, let’s say that your IQ is about 20 points higher than your opponent. Having a private conversation before your debate will allow you to pick your debate opponents brain before the public event. The reason why you can pick your opponents brain more than they can yours is because your level of intelligence is at a higher level. You’ll be able to read their tactics of information extraction better than they could yours. Do this for a few hours and you could set yourself up nicely to completely dismantle your opponent at the public event without them realizing how much information they gave up to you. IQ plays a big role in society and most people are unaware of this. High IQ is correlated with rapid pattern recognition. First person to recognize specific patterns is going to come out ahead. This is why Magnus was able to acquire the information needed to beat Hikaru for many years

    • @Chessmapling
      @Chessmapling Před rokem +1

      Doing any of those things is easier said than done. Pro chess players are always improving their game, but so are all their opponents. Hikaru may be much stronger than he was then, but so is Magnus. If it was so easy to figure out Magnus's weaknesses, then somebody would've knocked him from the #1 spot. The fact that he's reigned for 10 years suggests that maybe he has nearly no weaknesses, at least none that humans can exploit consistently.
