  • Duty belt suspenders are the best way I've found to alleviate lower back pain when you are married to using a duty belt for police and/ or security work. 911 gear makes their "tactical" suspenders specifically for cops and security guards who wear an external vest / plate carrier.

    I bought the leather backed suspenders you 1st reviewed from 911 gear to replace my K&W suspenders I bought 4 years ago. I like how they have nice wide cushion for the shoulders and you can tell they are quality. They fit perfect under my Blauer uniform vest carrier for a nice clean look. Thanks for your videos!

    The experience of the designer as a CO makes a difference. The fashion industry that typically designs clothing is so anti-police that they refuse to help law enforcement with clothing and accessory designs. Natick Soldier Systems Center (NSSC) used to be much more effective to help design clothing and accessories for the military, but NSSC has lost their effectiveness. NSSC ain't what it used to be. The hate I got at school when designing equipment for law enforcement was pretty heavy. The fashion students did not want to cooperate with law enforcement, because they got arrested too many times for drugs and prostitution. It takes courage to design stuff for law enforcement, and it also takes experience. The good thing is that a CO with good information from the inside and some motivation and guts can make products that help law enforcement. Before NSSC went soft there were some really good things we learned about how to make clothing for the military and LE customers. These detailed reviews of equipment are really awesome. I smile when I see how officers do appreciate the details that make a difference.

      +Ryan Scott you have no idea how much we appreciate when someone takes the time to make a peace of kit that actually does the job it is supposed to do instead of making it to tick boxes.

    • @ryanscott3753
      @ryanscott3753 Před 7 lety +2

      My first engineering boss taught me some lessons on designing clothing the proper way. He worked to design the flight suits for the military aviators and bras for Victoria's Secret, back when VS still sold quality products. There is a true science to designing clothing, accessories, and load bearing equipment the proper way to avoid the discomfort of chafing, bruising, blisters, overheating/overcooling, moisture removal, etc. Courtaulds was vertically integrated, producing the chemicals, fibers, threads, fabrics, and all the way to some pretty advanced clothing designs. NSSC used to do a good job. Courtaulds also used to do a good job, but some bad CEOs destroyed the company and the parent company Sara Lee (the pastry company). Courtaulds really did care about members of the military and law enforcement. Many of the specialized fibers and fabrics were developed for the military and LE. I really miss those days of working at Courtaulds, once a great company. The engineers that designed the clothing really cared about doing a good job. A little effort up front really made a difference, and we knew that people did appreciate that. The most I do right now is modify everyday clothing for super concealed carry for executives and undercover officers. The technology of surveillance with arrayed microphones and spread spectrum broadcasting is leaps and bounds better than the bugged microphones of the 80's and 90's. Microphones and cameras can be hidden anywhere, even inside fabrics.

    Hey bro I've only been a sub for a few months now and I am really interested to get a perspective on being a short officer. I am also from Chicago and wanted to apply to the state police academy but I was afraid that 5'8 would be too short. How are u treated by other officers and the public when going out to a call and how do you handle yourself during a fight? I would really appreciated if you could respond and keep up the great videos!

    • @freefieldtraining
      @freefieldtraining  Před 7 lety +11

      +coolguy3100 I would kill to be 5'08". But, mainly for personal reasons. When I was new it was an issue with being taken seriously. Five years in it was just a joke. Eleven years in it is no longer and issue at all. Several hundred fights later and the people I work with only bring it up when we are shit talking, usually after I laugh at them for bumping their head going down a steep staircase, searching and attic, or exiting the back of a bearcat. The public can sometimes be ignorant about it but, the people who do that will find something to be ignorant about no matter what. Follow your dreams brother! The only reason to worry about it is as an excuse to fail. Don't give yourself the excuse.

    If you wear an external body armor carrier I highly recommend 221b tactical's maxx dri vest. It gives you a little bit of air circulation under the vest and helps keep you cooler and dry. They are kinda pricey but well worth it IMO. It also acts as a bit of padding under the vest which is nice too. I don't have any link to the company other than being a satisfied customer.
