    The start up load on that fridge is way more than a 150 watts .. probably when the start capacitor reloaded is when things went wrong

      Maybe I just didn't see it on my killawatt device, but then again that compressor is soo quiet its hard to tell when its firing up or not.

      @@CrazyRick250 the fridge might have a dc motor .. I’m not sure exactly how those work but a friend lost the inverter in his fridge due to a power surge ..Good luck 🍀

    The nexus was not designed to run a full size fridge!..it’s for emergency lighting, cell phone, laptop charging etc. Not a fair review 👎🏻

    • @CrazyRick250
      @CrazyRick250  Před 2 lety

      Jason you have a good point it was clearly NOT designed for that.
      However what it is Designed to do "emergency lighting, cell phone, laptop charging etc" given the price of $100 I do not think it is worth it, if it had a 12v adapter to it maybe then I would consider it for that price.
      However should I have only tested it for only the things it was designed to do sure. but I still was not impressed with it given the price. And would have not have recommended it, based on what it can do given the price tag.

      Lose power for an extended period of time..and that $100 won’t seem too bad

      @@jasonlake2427 I understand. I already have other backup power options so its a little different for me.

      I bought one, yes it is not pure sine wave, but using one an item that has a dc converter on it, should be ok. I got mine to run my CPAP machine, which is a 24V dc device. Plugged into the 120v, I get a good 9 hours out of the unit, running humidifier and heated hose, and had 40% of my 7.5 amp battery left. I already have the EGO stuff, so I have the batteries, $100 is cheaper than the $300 for a back up battery that sells for the unit. But that is just me.

    I just bought one for my camping trip this Memorial Day weekend. I will be charging my iPhone and Bluetooth speaker off of my 5 amp battery from my leaf blower. I will then let you all know how it went. I will be camping for 3 days.

    is it worth it? No. Why in the hell would you think it would run a fridge all night?

    There's an EGO 400w Pure Sinewave inverter WITH USB-C PD coming out soon. I'm excited about that one as I plan to use Solar to charge it.

      We will see what the price is once it comes out, doesn't sound like much of a step down from the nexus power station.

    Yeah I have two of the full size 2KW units (each with 4x 7.5A batteries) and one of these. I would only plug the fridge into the the big ones and use the small one for a very small USB fan, a radio or desk lamp.

    Agree they need to update the device. But I still love mine. I use it outside sometimes, plug in a tv and a fire stick to watch football games 😎

    I have had my Escape for more than a year now. I have only used it once. I used it with a 12v 8a battery charger to "jump" my truck when I left the acc on all night. About a half hour later I was able to start my truck. Mostly when I need remote power I use the inverter in my trailer (that I charge my ego batteries with) or my nexus power station (that serves as my over-night charger). With batteries being as good as they are now; there is very little need for a low wattage inverter. If something doesn't require a lot of power, it is likely already powered by a rechargeable battery.
    Things I have powered with my Nexus power station include: My home office, my skill saw, my welder (on low), submersible water pump, air compressor, fish tank, and more.

    • @CrazyRick250
      @CrazyRick250  Před 2 lety

      True that!
      Also didn't think about it being used as a emergency car battery starter! Even thou they due make battery powered jump starters that you can use.
      Cool! I am looking forward to purchasing the Nexus power station in the future and trying it out on here! Glad to hear that it suits your needs!

    The Ego Power Station is what I'm eyeing as my limited power outage mini fridge solution for medication that MUST stay cool instead of me in the middle of a power outage in August having to scramble to find bags of ice to buy in the middle of the night. The bigger cousin does advertise pure sine wave so that one mark in it's favor there. I see the 12A batteries are being released for sale now and the variety of battery capacities available from Ego is one of the things that attracts me to it.

      If you already have the Ego tools/batteries and you can test that it handles the surge of a small fridge compressor…. Not sure that it will. It definitely works good for small tv’s, electronics and a fans.
      If you don’t already have those batteries you would do much better to look at purpose built portable solar generators like Jackery or Bluetti. Plus they have foldable solar panels you can plug in to charge the battery.

      Forget that power station. Get a REAL one like a Bluetti, EcoFlow, etc. EGO station is worse than a Patriot, which is a POS.

    Woah, kinda crazy this situation. Fridge start up power requirement is up there unless there is a soft start on the compressor, even then its quite the initial punch. I got the 400 watt inverter and its good. Pure sine wave too.

    @geod3589 Před rokem +1

    Great idea to use EGO batteries for more than running their tools. Too bad they dropped the ball with this, especially the sine-wave. I wonder how long it would run a light bulb, say 25w, in my well house?

  • @maddeusdoggeus1
    @maddeusdoggeus1 Před rokem +1

    Yeah I’ve one that Works great for small electronics including Flat Screen 40” TV. After you Toasted yours by plugging in your Fridge that Spikes a 1300 watt draw when the compressor kicks in and smelled it cook…. I wouldn’t plug anything into it either. Nor would I return it since you set it up for failure.

    The Kill-A-Watt has a thermal fuse that you likely tripped. Here's a video on the repair, it's not too bad! czcams.com/video/T2URx9w9h00/video.html

  • @David_L3
    @David_L3 Před rokem

    Agreed. Stay away from this one. Output is a 3 step square wave. No sensitive electronics, no A/C motors & couldn't power up my kill-a-watt either (and fried a different power meter). It's just too dangerous for anything but a pure resistive load. I guess you could use the USB port for a 5v output. PAD5000 is just being released (pure sine wave, 400w). Ego should recall the PAD1500. Maybe at least offer a $25 credit towards at PAD5000.
