  • Johannes Brahms (7 May 1833 - 3 April 1897) was a German composer and pianist of the Romantic period. Born in Hamburg into a Lutheran family, Brahms spent much of his professional life in Vienna, Austria. His reputation and status as a composer are such that he is sometimes grouped with Johann Sebastian Bach and Ludwig van Beethoven as one of the "Three Bs" of music, a comment originally made by the nineteenth-century conductor Hans von Bülow.

Hard to believe that that utmost of Romantic composers has written such a simple (at least to my ears?!) hymn-like piece! :)

Simple? Listen Again. At 8:53 There is a canon between Tenor/Baß 2 and Sopran/Alt 2. Also, both motets are full with fugatos and counterpoint.

If it's too easy for you, why don't you try to compose a motet or a fugue?

Who is now the choir that performs so beautifully? The Kansas City Chorale, as mentioned in the text, or The Chamber Choir of Europe as per the structured chapter under music? From the few Americanisms in the pronunciation I guess it is the Kansas City Chorale.😀

Yes it is the Kansas City Chorale. Sometimes CZcams has the copyright wrong.
