I had the 17-70 on a trip and it was terrible. Big and heavy! I sold it immediately and got the Sigma 18-50 and it is wonderful. Light, compact, excellent quality. Thanks Sigma!
Love hearing the different perspectives of these lenses. I don't mind the extra size and weight of the Tamron, but if a smaller camera gets you out and shooting more, then by all means go with the Sigma!
Don’t forget weather sealing in the Tamron, such a plus! You are first person that says the sharpness in the Sigma is not good at 18mm tho I understand that’s just your experience
Really helpful video. I'm going from Canon to Sony this year and your content has really helped me. Looking forward to getting my FX30 and Tamron 17-70 now 👍
a few things inevitably, price, size, and also I have heard some not so great things about the lens stabilization in the Tamron fighting with the ibis in the fx30. Probably in that order. However the 70mm length would be very handy at times.
Same. I've had it for 2 weeks now and don't get me wrong I want to love it, but this thing could tear my wrist tendon off if im not cognizant of how I'm holding it with my a6700. 🤣🤣If I forget I'm holding it while doing something else im gonna feel it until tomorrow.
Just ordered the Sigma. It will be my first zoom lens. If I enjoy using it I may buy the Sony version. I need the weather seal for winter. The Tamron seems fine but is big.
What is the so called purpose of APSC my man? Look no offence but soon as the camera with the lens doenst fit into my pocket lense size stops being a great factor for me
I've seen some techincals reviews out there, and that is indeed true, going past 60mm it get a little softer, however doesnt negate the fact that you have more mm to handle a few things from here and there. My only conrcern with the lens is the VC control, as it does appear to sometimes not behave as it should when the camera has ibis, If only tanrom woudl found a way around with an fimrware update I would consider it the supreme winner.
I bought the 18-50 due to its versatility but it wasn’t a wow factor but it was essentially a good buy for what I need it for and with the deal I got on it, came with freeebies that I was going to buy separately anyway so I was like “ click “ at checkout

Thats what I thought too, but on the FX30, the IBIS and lens stabilization caused some weird issues. More on it in my full video here: czcams.com/video/NImTBCih8Yg/video.html
Both of these lenses are not going to be as sharp as a prime lens. But comparing these two lenses side-by-side, the tamron is sharper at wider focal lengths in my testing. The sigma is very soft wide open and at the wider focal lengths. However, a sigma prime is going to be sharper than either of these lenses. The benefit of the zoom lens is the convenience of zooming. A prime is sharper, but then you have to lug around more lenses if you want to change focal length
@@naftade it is common kownledge that the tamron is softer than the sigma past 60mm however as sharp at 50mm and the tanrom also wins the sharpness at the wide end
Lighter, more affordable - if you don't shoot at 18-24 very often (or don't need razor-sharp image quality at those focal lengths) the sigma is still a good choice. Everyones choices are different
I’m going to have to try to get another copy of that lens and try it out. Totally possible I got a soft version - but I can only report what I saw on the copy that I had
@keith-knittel yeah I definitely understand that but I think there's a lot of people including myself that may not buy the lens because of your assessment of its sharpness. I know I used to have a Tamron Lens I believe it was the 28 200 everybody said it was sharp but for me it wouldn't Focus all the way at the end of the range and was always super soft but I know it was definitely my copy so yeah anyway maybe see if you can get another copy of it and we report on it if you still feel like it's the same then you can't be wrong with two copies in a row
Same here, the size & longer tele end made it an easy choose. Yes the sigma is small but I prefer to bigger zoom ring. Don’t mind that it’s easier to rig the camera out with a fix system.
I bought the sigma and the a6600 recently, to have a smaller kit. The Tamron 17-70 has been my bread and butter for many jobs with the A6100, which has no IBIS. the Tamron’s optical stabilization is great. The range is very good. The Tamron made me sell the Sony 16-55mm at a loss. But with a stabilized camera the sigma is a nice combo for every day shooting. I will not sell my tamron. The Tamron is the assignment/project lens. The sigma is the casual carry around lens, or the travel light kit the Tamron for the range, aperture and quality is not that large, after all.
@@stefpix im planning to buy fx30 and im bit confused in these 2 lenses as you have used both which one would you pick if bokeh and sharpness is the main requirement??
Even better: Get the FX3 and F30 and Tamron 17-28mm and 28-75mm f/2.8 lens, and the Sony 10-20mm and 18-105mm f/4 PZ G lens. Also get a 7.5mm 7Aritsans lens and you're good to go. Center crop those lenses with FX30 and you get 2.5x crop total, so you can hit 95% every focal point with those lenses.
I have the 17-70 and wouldn't trade it for anything. Amazing lens.
Great zoom range! Love it

I tend to go towards heavier lenses, for more stability in video for my rig lol

In my testing, the wider end of the sigma is softer and has more distortion. If you're ok with that, it's a good little lens. Great for travel

Not sure why Tamron can't still work with Sony IBIS after 3 years of launch but, for my non stabilized 6400, the tamron is best.
tamron is owned by sony, they make them not compete with sony g lenses, that's why only sony g lenses can work with internal ibis on new cameras
@@mdenjoyer831 Sony doesn't own Tamron, they hold 14% of the shares in the company but certainly don't own the company itself.
