Combining his trademark wit and self-deprecating humor with original music, Bo Burnham offers up his unique twist on life in this stand-up special. - Komedie
It's called the 'Kill Yourself Song' and you know it.
I'm glad they changed it so newcomers have no idea what the punchline is
@@andykanz3155 You're right. We need positive people like you on the news. I feel like I ruined it now. Whoops!
@@jwec9867 so double speaking.
@@aika8127 elaborate?
@@jwec9867 double speaking as in not telling lies but deforming truth. Instead of saying the world is going to die because of global warming. Saying the world is gradually getting warmer. So it's the optimal time to get a tan
Should we leave in the part where he says "Don't kill yourself?" at the end?
Nah, song's done.
Yeah this is really bad that they didnt put the disclaimer part. But there was something in the second verse though that was helpful enough.
Well, he literally says you shouldn't kill yourself at 1:28 in very unambiguous language. Also, he didn't repeat the message not to kill yourself until about 15 seconds after the song was over.
(I'm aware you're making a joke here, but...yeah)
the whole bit is about NOT doing it so....
@@TAPTENPAREY I don't think there's anyone who would kill themselves if not for the disclaimer.

I feel like "Get it through your head, 'it' being a bullet" is an underrated lyric
It surely is
I think part of the reason is because it goes by so fast that people don't have time to process it? I've seen multiple videos of this song where the audience didn't really laugh at that part.
Also the marry Courtney Love lyric
That whole part is great.
"It's over, mull it. there's a trigger, pull it. get it through your head, 'it' being a bullet!"

@@dukenukem7043 Well, some probably, I wouldn't say the last thing to do though. Certainly better than consulting strangers on the internet on how to get better at least
@@dukenukem7043you do know that psychology is a gigantic scientific field and that a professional who is aware of the necessary findings and treatments is literally the best solution one could hope for, right? I mean, obviously there are bad people just trying to take your money and extend so called 'treatments' to do that, but by your logic, you should never hire anyone to do any job because "what if they're intentionally doing it poorly for me to need them again?"
I get it you probably had bad experiences in the past, but your conclusion is stupid.
I'm sorry for snapping at you, but your comment could be bad for someone struggling with mental health issues and who should, as Bo said "book a therapy session, talk about your depression, and let a professional hear it"
@@ClanDosCanalhas It does seem like the comment is bashing therapy in general, but they didn't specify psychologists. "Medical physician" is a general term that includes every dodgy person with a medical degree. Psychiatrists, for example, get paid to prescribe medication. It's no secret they typically prioritize that over the well-being of their patients. (In America at least.) A battered soul is just dollar signs to many in that field. Implying they're all out to get you is silly, though, I agree. Anyone considering therapy should try it if you can. I definitely recommend seeing a psychologist before a psychiatrist.
@@slinkadoo6292 great points. And to add to it, it's good to look up a good psychologist who uses scientifically proven techniques. Not much point in going for psychoanalysts for example.

The thought of ending it actually helped me a lot to make myself do the things I was afraid of. When you think that you're going to have to live with the potential rejection and humiliation the rest of your life it gets really hard to put yourself out there. But the thought that in the worst case scenario I can just opt out made me feel relief and courage to just do it. And in the end this potential panaceum saved me from ruining my life, I would have probably never write my master thesis and graduate without it. But it was thoughts, never plans for me and therefore it's still in the hypothethical zone in my head.

When he ended up the word "Love" i feel like he just hide his trembling voice cuz he so emotional at that moment.

Scientist: Your brain has evolved to protect you from danger
My brain:
This song is genuinely comforting when im dealing with suicidal thoughts. Its annoying having people recommend songs that don't jive with how you're feeling and/or trivialize how you're feeling. This song feels like someone standing with you in solidarity rather than tell you everything is great, or how "strong" you are. He's telling people who think these songs fix everything "If these songs fix all your problems, you dont have problems. You're not gonna kill yourself, we both know it, so shut up"
I guess what im saying is, mission failed successfully? Because im still finding comfort in a song for real world problems.
If you don't play this at my funeral im not dying.
1:38 how he brilliantly starts a run-on sentence and cuts it off right when the next verse comes in so naturally... It's actually hard to do it so perfectly
When my therapist knows that humor is one of my coping mechanisms and encourages it, I don't think she realizes that this is my type of humor.
Ironically enough, when I feel depressed I listen to this song to get a bit of a laugh, so technically I am doing exactly the opposite of what he's saying we should. So yeah, Bo, kind of counterproductive of you to have written too catchy of a song.
Yeah, when I was unmedicated for my BPD, I did the same thing, but I feel this isn't actually going against what he says. He states that you shouldn't just blindly follow songs that give you a simple answer for your feelings, but instead you should find a coping mechanism that actually works(loosely, he does say to get a therapist, but that would also be following the song). In this case, you were merely just listening to a funny song that makes you laugh, but not following it's explicit directions to the letter, to get you through a tough time.
@@sighkick6938 yess exactly. The beauty of how we could go about this and still end up at a good conclusion is the sign of his song writing mastery I think.
