    The Deele played in Columbus Ohio a few times at this club on Main St. (Larry's East or later called Ashley's). They were all the rave with their costumes, curls and dynamic vocals w/ Face. I remember like it was yesterday.

    Recently finished reading LA Reid's book and having grown up in Cincinnati it's fascinating what was happening in the 80s in the midwest.....arguably the most important region for the birth of modern music with the Minneapolis sound, Chicago house, Detroit techno, and Cincinnati Funk/R&B

    I'm from Ohio too. I'm always playing music out of Ohio for my sons. We lived in Indy for a while and they have famous black people from Indy on the wall including Baby Face. My youngest plays piano, drums and trumpet. So I'm always finding music for him

    It's interesting to hear how that album "Dirty Mind" was so captivating. LA Reid was influenced by Prince and his Band back then. When I first saw the album back in 1980 I was also impressed with the Album cover. Although like Quest I didn't start exploring the album until after Purple Rain hit.

    • @kannaiahkannaiah3821
      @kannaiahkannaiah3821 Před 2 lety

      Dirty Mind and Controversy were both trendsetters in their own lane when he created them. We were in Boston when he died and there just wasn't a collective vibe about the history of Prince - it was a lot of pop stuff after he had already crossed over to pop music.

Well-structured with good questions and insight on the power of instinct, and creative process and decision-making in the music business, throughout his own career, and in general! This interview could have been so much more productive and interesting.
    Too much screaming and hollering,
    too many irrelevant questions
    and most of all not critical enough.
    We all love LA Reid but he messed up a lot for many artists!
    Why not talk about that, too!?
    Too many lost opportunities to segway into legendary careers and people:
    For example he mentions Shalamar and no one segways to Jody Watley’s iconic solo career !????
    C’mon man…C’mon.

    LA seems like a cool dude, but he is exposing himself as being a mediocre exec/a&r/producer. He rode babyfaces coattails, picked the wrong songs, basically stole more money from tlc with the 3 video debacle, P!nk…he was not responsible for the moves she made…P!nk did that herself after the first album. Dropped the ball on Tierra Marie, was NOT responsible for Rihanna. Basically he has been lucky more than anything.
