This series reminds me of the word that says love the Lord with all our heart, soul mind and strength. He gave us a mind to think with and to ask questions. He can handle our questions and we should be able to handle when others have questions also. I’ve been sharing these talks. Thanks for helping people find the answers to their questions and letting them know it’s ok to have questions.

I have watched and commented on several of these videos; I must say that this one provided some helpful nuggets for any that's struggling with understanding what may be perceived as challenges with the Church. I will conclude with this: There's absolutely nothing wrong with asking questions and seeking out answers, however, it's vitally important that in the quest for answers that they are of The Truth, not just a truth. Anything, no matter how it may seem to appease our questions, if it leads us away from the Lord's Word, which is Truth (even when it's tight), is ultimately a lie and will land us in bondage rather than liberty.

I think if we take the Bible as the focus of how we understand the Christian faith, then we further refine that focus to the books of John and Acts, we will be closer to who Jesus is [in John] and how the believers carried on his work [in Acts]. Read them over and over again; focus on what they say and not what you've been taught about them. These books will tear down lots of walls!

This is probably the most quasi q&a session I've seen from this series. Bro. Berry ultimately circled back towards the end with a statement that somewhat answers the original question in a general roundabout way. Humans and their relationships are extremely messy whether martial, parental or social. Come along side that understanding with the fact that white supremacy and Christianity are two diametrically opposed cultures. Understanding the parameters of both is a start to seeing how to untangle them. The answer to that question is too complex to crystalize into 22 min. I'm guessing there was little to no prep time to give a fully comprehensive response however understanding that Christianity is an eastern religion rooted in an eastern text (which means eastern thought/philosophy) that in part was culturally misappropriated by colonizing Europeans(though they weren't alone in that) coupled with the messiness of humans and human relationships is a start to answering the original question. To be fair, you'd have to be an astute student of biblical history to be fully aware of the strength of the African presence in the text let alone other peoples with high counts of melanin. Christianity was used as a vehicle to conquer lands and people with antithetical intent. That speaks to the people, not to the vehicle. When wielded with it's actual intent, Christianity saves sinners by spreading the gospel and Kingdom culture via making little Jesus clones. There is so much that goes into answering that first question thoroughly such as concepts of "God" and "evil" in traditional African religious systems and how certain concepts did not translate or translated poorly into African languages and theology, the discounting and forced replacement of pre-Christian theology in Africa which is strongly connected to the African sense of self, the African church fathers contributions to foundational Christian tenets as well as some African church fathers who were wholly dismissed in church history, the emphasis of religion over relationship, the list is simply endless. You untangle the two cultures one thread at a time starting with and looking towards Jesus. What does Jesus say about himself vs what white supremacy says. Understand what Christianity is and what it isn't and the good book itself informs us rather thoroughly of that as it's the best commentator on itself.

You said some interesting things. I come with the thought that You cannot untangle white supremacy from Christianity. Maybe with a discussion you can provide me new information for me to process.
In my opinion the early African Church Fathers represent white supremacy.. All of them have Latin names.. They all spoke Greek/Latin to my knowledge.. They were all raised and educated under European Institutions. I feel that Africans with Latin names is white supremacy.

    • @bobbydawkins3
      @bobbydawkins3 Před 2 lety +1

@@whatshatnin4572 Good afternoon brother! I love a good discussion! I'm still reading and gathering info on all topics that fall under this and it's a gargantuan undertaking. I agree that the latinization of Africans represents white supremacy and the nonreligious literature available on that is fascinating and informative. I submit that white supremacist theology is like a false king on a borrowed throne: it exercised and exercises power that is not its own on a throne to which it has no right. Once the people understand that the power of the Word doesn't lie in institutions and organizations but in the triumvirate Godhead themselves and especially when invited to indwell us, the false king is tossed out on his ear. This would be more improbable than impossible due to the messy nature of humans and their relations to other humans and especially to God. The early African church fathers ( both the well known and not so well known) represented theologies that lined up with as well as seemingly didn't line up with Roman/Roman Catholic theology and a key part of this issue is the manner or nature of African thought on key underpinnings of the Christian faith as taught by the church in regards to spirit, God, man and the nature of all three among other religious issues, especially Trinitarian disagreements and confusions that even Dr. John Henrik Clarke addressed in his books and lectures where he referred to "lily white christian theology". Erroneous theology is wrapped up in bad doctrine, the source of which could be wrong context, lack of context, bad eisegesis and or exegesis, flawed hermeneutic and various other factors. When we approach the bible as the Bereans did with daily diligence and get the nature of God into our hearts and minds ( read subconscious mind and conscious mind respectively), it becomes easier to not just spread sound biblical theology but to also point out unsound unbiblical theology. Since there were African church fathers of note as well as those we have never heard of or read about, the issue of African thought, African philosophy and the African mind presented and still presents a unique challenge despite latinized or Greco-Roman names and institutions. Lisa and Dr. Bantu both admit that the lensing of their faith that occurs in light of German theologians or any white theologian does raise very real concerns, especially when considering intent and context; however, it is that very lense that must be removed when reading the word for yourself. Just as we try the spirit by the Spirit, we prove the Word with the Word. I came to understand long ago that white supremacist theology is the misappropriation of Kingdom culture. You can't advance the supremacy and sufficiency of Christ if you're pushing your own skin tone as the agenda and especially against and above other skin tones. That's not of Christ nor is it why He came. The freedom one finds in Christ is not to be lorded over and against others but encouraged in others. This includes recognizing and respecting the intent and focus of worship that doesn't look like your own. Big clashing point in terms of colonizing via religion. Truly all the theology one needs is in the Bible. While further clarification can be found outside of and along side it, theologies of others that isn't biblical is to be corrected or rebuked in love with scripture through relation towards the goal of advancing the Kingdom.
Some informative reading on all this is
      GK Chesterton's Orthodoxy
The Christ of the Indian Road by E. Stanley Jones
Any books by John Mbiti and Bolaji Idowu which address African theology, thought and the African mind
Must God Remain Greek by Robert E. Hood
African Church Fathers by Hans Engdahl(comparing and contrasting Origen and Mbiti)
African Contextual Realities by Rodney L. Reed
And Dr. Vince Bantu's book A Multitude of all People's which is part of a current 14 book series that has other enlightening titles in it. These books are a good start along with sole scripture study for tackling the white supremacist theology issue because the books available that address the many faces of it are a library into themselves. Also anything you can find on the Council of Chalcedon like Justo Gonzalez's A History of Christian Thought or Christology and the Council of Chalcedon by Fr. Ishak which Dr. Bantu stresses in his book and the interview as requiring closer scrutiny. In my view, the work of these authors as well as my own experience have proven that white supremacy can be deposited and divorced from biblically orthodox Christian theology. Yet i still have so much more reading to do for the books and authors not mentioned.

@@bobbydawkins3 I notice that we like to use the bible to beat down white supremacy. In my mind that is impossible because we got the bible from white supremacy. Now if me and you walked down the historicity of the bible and we realized that it was created by Africans then we might be on to something.. But if we go down memory lane in regards to the making of the bible and come to the realization that the bible was created by white folks then there is no way to untangle white supremacy from Christianity.
Dr. Bantu is brilliant Brotha. I used to hold on to and respect a lot of his work.. But i heard him say something to the effect that pushing Christianity is more important than pushing the truth. I feel like Black Folks have had enough people who thought pushing their agenda on us was more important than pushing the truth.

Interesting.. Very interesting.. I notice that when a black person asks a black Christian about slavery and Christianity, the black Christian always goes straight to Egypt and Ethiopia. They act like the Christian slave master went to North Africa to get his slaves to bring to America. Eventually we have to talk about OUR introduction to Christianity.. "Our" meaning the west and central African's introduction to Christianity.

    • @whatshatnin4572
      @whatshatnin4572 Před 2 lety +1

I can respect the fact that some Africans had some sound influence on early Christianity. But thats not my focus. Essentially you are telling me that some Africans with European names living under a European government in Africa - speaking European languages and being taught by European institutions jumped into a European religion and made it better. Basketball players have done the same thing with the NBA. We did not create the sport. We just jumped into the NBA and made it better while making Europeans wealthy. In my mind, the African who improves a European creation is still white supremacy. If those early African Church fathers got their Christianity from European literature then to me they are just ponds pushing what white supremacy created in this particular instance. Because the European is still the middle man between the African and Bible god

Culturally relevant worship is common in Cameroon. In fact, the Catholic church made a point to fuse culture and christianity in the 90s through a concept called inculturation. They've even overdone tbh, allowing cultural practices that are not healthy.
Since really knowing Jesus, I realised that while I love the many parts of my identity (African/Cameroonian/Mbu included) they are not the most important thing about me. I have a soul that will live in eternity and I need Heaven to be my country.

It’s a mixed bag because church and relationship with Yeshua is different. Church isn’t the community that it was set up to be like the book of Acts showed. Now it’s just a common ritual with little to know real community aspect. And no one lacked anything we don’t have that anymore now a days with so called church. As young folk we read the Word but don’t see the Word in most churches. So we bounce out plus we get little respect.

God has said, I am the Lord, I change not. He esteems his word above his name. Heaven and earth shall pass away but the word of the Lord endures forever.
Don't be lead away by the proliferation of various and sundry modern bibles that are represented to us as translations.
These are largely interpretations that wrest the scriptures to suit understanding of the interpreters.
Sin was sin in the garden of Eden, and nothing has changed in this regard. And all the new Bible interpretations have not profited those who read them.
God has not given us his word only, but his Spirit also to teach us and to help us. Trust in the Lord, and let no man glory in men.
If we pray faithfully, and seek God faithfully and meditate on his word, day and night, he will give us more grace as we establish our humility by doing these things. No one can stop us from doing it but us. There is no excuse. You can't blame the church for spiritual laziness.
Take this word of exhortation and prosper. This is not what I think, it is what I know. The Lord is my witness. Grace and Peace.

    The Gospel:
    Plain and
    Simple
“But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent
beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your
minds should be corrupted from the simplicity
that is in Christ.” - 2 Corithians 11:3
Ask someone today if they are saved and
you will most likely hear responses like these:
“I have accepted Jesus into my heart.” Or “I
have made him Lord of my life.” “I’ve been
baptized.” “I said a prayer.” Sounds all good
and churchy don’t it; but it is difficult to de-termine whether or not a person actually
knows the gospel that saves them. These use￾less phrases don’t describe a thing about what
the gospel is and has left a devastating effect
of people not knowing what it is that they are
saved from nor how they are saved; which
leaves a more serious effect of people ques￾tioning their salvation.
Let’s not muddy the simplicity of salva￾tion that is in Christ with vague church
sounding phrases that do not communicate
anything. But rather present God’s word with
clarity and assuredness. So here is the gospel:
    plain and simple.
Sin was passed upon all men by one man
Adam, and death is a consequence of this sin
(Rom 5:12). Mankind has an eternal destiny of
condemnation and wrath - Hell - because of
this sin (Rom 6:23). No matter what good
works one might do we are still found sinners
in the sight of our Creator God. And all un￾righteousness and those who follow get in￾dignation and wrath. We cannot be found
righteous for by God’s law we are found sin￾ners (Rom 3:19-20). If we have broken even
one law we are found guilty.
It is for this reason of not being able to
create our own righteousness and being born
in a sinful flesh that we need a savior (Titus
3:5). Christ is that Savior, God manifested in
the flesh, sinless, died in our place on a cross
2000 years ago. Taking upon him the wrath
and judgement that was intended for us sin￾ners. And it is through his bloodshed, burial,
and resurrection on our behalf that we are
able to have peace with God and forgiveness
of our sins (1 Cor 15:1-4, Col 3:14). This good
news is unto all but only those that believe in
it are made righteous in Christ (Romans
    3:22).
It is then after we have heard this good
news of Christ’s righteousness available to us freely, that we are sealed with the Holy Spirit
and we are now part of Christ’s body the
    church (Eph 1:13)
There is nothing that we need to do, no
good works that are required, and no bad
works that can separate us from our new po￾sition in Christ (Romans 8:35-39).
Faith and belief in this information from
    God’s word is the gospel.
The gospel is not accepting Jesus into your
heart. The gospel is not making him lord of
your life, it is not saying a prayer and it is not
    being baptized with water.
So next time someone asks you if you are
saved. Give them the clear assured answer
“Yes! And let me tell you why!”

To answer the 2nd question of is the bible and Christianity evolving? Yes. The word of God is living and active! Sharper than any double edged sword! so if you dwindle it down it can be what never falls out of style is treat others the way you want to be treated. Ok! If thts all I walk away from then ok. Or be the fruits of the Spirit: be kind, patient, goodness, peace, love, self-control..okay! So if someone walks with tht, their life will have a rich and fulfilling meaning with a positive impact on others..NOW to address question #1 with it: If these 2 scriptures I just gave as 2 principles to live life on are the base guides, then there will be plenty of things one would reject in Christianity: the dressing like white British folks, capitalism, American practice of Christianity, American practices of medicine, The Stock Market...why??? B.c the the profit model DOES NOT promote The Golden Rule or the fruits of the Spirit. So if a place of worship promotes the profit model harder than the fruits of the Spirit then you already know this ain't for you.

Once we die and we bring all these excuses to God at judgement he is going to hold each of us responsible for our lives because he has left a blueprint his truth; the BIBLE for our answers.

But in reality an African nation being forced into a religion by Europeans is white supremacy. Not knowing a god until white people introduce you to said god is the epitome of white supremacy. The first Christian Church ever built in Ghana was built by white people and it was built right next to the dungeons that the Christians kept our ancestors.. That is the white supremacy that you cannot untangle from Christianity.
We keep lookin for this kingdom of god.. White literature is tellin us that there is place better than here.. But we have no evidence of this place. I kind of agree with the lady speaking on testing "faith", but can you truly test faith: noun
    1.
complete trust or confidence in someone or something.
"this restores one's faith in politicians"
    2.
strong belief in God or in the doctrines of a religion, based on spiritual apprehension rather than proof.
So with her own words she is being dishonest when she says she is testing her faith and putting her faith of the " chopping block", you cannot test faith and belief, because the mere words, proves you cannot test it, Belief without proof, is not testing faith.
As a African American, who was raised in the church, I learned early on you cannot test your faith, because you have to believe without proof.

Partially true for Saint Augustine, but not true for Ethiopia, and it is more complicated for Alexandria. The Ethiopian Orthodox Church has had a culture of its own even inside Oriental Orthodoxy until this day. About Greek and Alexandria in Egypt is more complicated because they had a Helenistic Culture before Romans got there, it was a mixture of Ancient Middle Eastern Culture with Ancient Greek Culture. The curious thing Eastern part of the Roman Empire was considered more "developted" and culturally "superior" to the Western European part. The "caucasian" , germanic, Celtic and Slavish Tribes of Europe were considered "primitive" and "inferior" to the supposed at the time "superior" Culture of Helenistic Middle East, that is why a Guy like Saint Augustine from a region which today is Algeria (and indeed by modern American racial sensibilities would be considered brown) felt such pressure to learn Greek (that he hated). The truth is that Christianity is a Middle Eastern religion that spread through the world and got its own version in Europe that became hegemonic, but original European religions were greco-roman, germanic and Celtic paganism. That is why a strong characteristic in Nazism for example was to exalt German Paganism, and also why there is this tendency in many neonazis to embrace European Neopaganism (of course not all neopagan are neonazis, but the point is that white supremacy can use European Christianity as a weapon but not always, because it is at odds with Christianity's Middle Eastern roots)

Do we have any middle eastern religious literature that predate the Greek? Do we have any African nations that were introduced to Christianity by Middle Easterners, because we dam sure have a PLETHORA of African nations that have been introduced to Christianity by Europeans. In fact EVERY African nation has been introduced by Europeans.
The fact that Augustine was forced to learn Greek is more evidence for me that shows us that Christianity is the white man's religion. Without the European there would be no Christianity. There would be no bibles. There would be no Moses or a Noah.
You seem like you have a lot of info which is a good thing.. Ima simple man. I dont see any African nation having a Christian institution before said African nation was told to have a Christian institution by Europeans colonizers and or missionaries. Did Bible god ever come to The Congo or Zimbabwe to introduce himself to the Brothas. Or did some middle easterners go to Egypt, Nigeria, Jamaica, Chad or South Africa to introduce the Brothas to the bible? Or was it Europeans introduced Christianity and the bible to the Brothas in Ghana, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Ghana and America.
Is there an African bible that predates the European bible.. Is there a Hebrew gospel that predates the Greek.. Or did the ones who gave us Medusa gave us Jesus? Did the Ethiopians draw images of Jesus before Saint Frumentius or After.
Man i just dont see the middle eastern influence in Christianity like i see the European. Im from a small town right outside of LA.. Of course, bias & prejudice will always exist because of sin, but Satan will leave you stuck on "what the white man supposedly did" or presuming a white man wrote the Bible. No white man wrote the Bible. The disciples were first called Christians according to the book of Acts. It's not really a white man's religion. That's not the truth.
