    Hey Guys!
    Today Grant and I installed some 10 year old Alpine gear that we recently removed from an MR2.
    We installed a CDA-9887, some nice Type X components, a Type R 10" subwoofer, and a brand new Alpine PDR-M65 mono block amplifier.
    Choose to be Happy & I will catch you next time.

    Hello from San Francisco
    First video of yours that I've watched.
    Liked it you kept it real with filming as you verbalized/worked out you plans.
    I can relate to your customer...put the old system in this car, put a nice system in the Jaguar (road trip car) where it will shine.
    My wife has a MKI Cabriolet...it's a bit tougher to get any real/good sound in these cars but I've installed installed around four iterations of systems over the years...but we try to evolve
    If I may share our journey in search of decent tunes...
    One version had carbon fiber Phoenix Gold 4x6 in factory door location (your cabriolet has a much better factory door pod) and a big box in back similar your the one your customer requested. with a 10" Phoenix Gold CF sub and amps...ya it takes up too much space but what hey it was loud ...besides your customer is paying the bills, and we didn't keep the box long....she may ditch this after some time as well.
    The second stereo version the sub box was tossed in favor of a baffle with four 8" free air subs mounted out back.
    Third version custom fiberglass pods with 6.5" separates in the doors, this required some upholstery to the doors.
    Fourth and final version is in the works ...not sure what I'll put in it as we're selling it. But it will be good as it's likely to aid in a sale.
    Like your customer, our road trip car has a much nicer system...GMC Yukon with Morel three way and... We'll you get the idea, your video struck a chord with me.

    Nice Job. I just had a 96 model to diagnose a no air con complaint. Had to pull the fascia and heater controls. There was plenty of glue behind there because all the plastic had gone brittle. Yours looked to still be in very good nick.

    James, The pump in the boot area where the changer was is the pump for the hydraulic hood. The hood uses a hydraulic fluid to lift and lower the hood. You can see the fluid in the cylinder at the end of the pump.

    you always throw me for a loop when you talk temperature because you use Celsius LOL, I'm like 30?? that's chilly..... forgetting that equates to about 90F here in America, another great video

    Did you find out what, if anything, what was causing the 9887 radio reception problem? Maybe mine has the same problem. I think mines internal. But not sure.

    if you don't have any other option run RCA with power cables but use ground loop isolator to fix bad sounds

    Hello, I have a old school Alpine 3566 amplifier, that is a 6/5/4/3, if I put it in 4 channel mode I will get 80 X 2 and 60X 2, i think I would have to use the last 2 channels for my components because the rca input would be in the “front” input is it ok if
    my coaxials get 20 nore watts? Would it really be noticable?

  • @kingofslotsmillion3263

    You need a powered aerial amp on the VW dude, one if the small inline boosters, especially with an alpine deck.

    • @caraudioetc
      @caraudioetc  Před 6 lety +1

      Tried that when I was testing, made no difference.
      We reckon the original aerial was on the factory windscreen and that at some point the windscreen had been replaced with one that didn’t have an aerial built in.
      It would explain why the aerial sheiks wasn’t grounded.

    I have an Alpine CDA-9887 and have the same radio reception problem. Everything is grounded correctly and still has terrible reception. If I put the factory radio back in, the radio works perfectly. I like my 9887, but the radio part of it is terrible. I even tried an amplified antenna and that didn’t help. If I upgrade, I want one that has all the features my 9887 has. But haven’t found one yet. Any thoughts would be appreciated. And yes, it has to be an Alpine, lol.

    • @caraudioetc
      @caraudioetc  Před 6 lety

      When you say features what do you mean, because the alpine code-163ebt is the current top level single din unit and it has all the sound adjustments you would ever need ?

      Car Audio.etc
      Wow! Thanks for getting back to me. It’s like conversing with a celebrity!!! Anyway, I did check that one out and the double din version because I drive a 2005 Ford F-150. But I think I’m hesitant about buying a new radio because I have my 9887 all setup with crossover, eq, time alignment, etc were I want it. I have the cables for my iPod and Bluetooth for my phone. I don’t wanna spend the money, pull my radio out, put a new one in, get it setup and the new one has radio reception problems. If I didn’t like the radio, I would have replaced it when it started acting up. But I bought it brand new when they first came out. I can deal with bad radio reception. For now, anyway, lol. Love your videos. You’re awesome. Take care.

    Outsize subwoofers that take over half the boot space is a boy racer thing and looks terrible. Installations should be factory standard where everything is discrete and hidden behind panels etc.

    • @caraudioetc
      @caraudioetc  Před 6 lety +8

      That’s fine if that’s your opinion and that is pretty much what we do for almost all of car Audio jobs, but when a customer says can you put my 10” sub in my boot we don’t say “no that’s not how it should be”!
