  • See a history of Sweden from its establishment in the middle ages to today.
    Please note that early Swedish history is somewhat lacking of information and poorly documented in historical sources.
    The Swedish crusade into Finland of 1150 may or may not have really taken place, as sources disagree with eachother.
    Music:
    "Immediate Music - Crusade"
    "March of the Templars".
    "Swedish Anthem - Instrumental Version"

    Ah the Swedish Empire, what a great, colorful nation and history. Once they ruled much of the baltic. When Charles XII was the king and the military leader they were almost going to defeat the great Russian Empire. At that time Charles XII and his brave soldiers were at war with Polish-Lituania, Danmark, Saxony and Russia at the same time. But Charles XII and his army won every single battle they have faced until the battle of Poltova in 1709. I salute these brave, lionheart soldiers of Sweden and Charles XII who died bravely in combat.

      Hell no. What makes you think we want to be part of Sweden? We have very strong national proud and feeling. Not even 100 years ago 100 000 good men died defending this country. Finnish men. Finland is Finland, not some colony of Sweden. You can't put Finland into Sweden and call it Sweden. We were and still, and probably will always be, busy fighting our neighbours, Russians, no need to be stabbed in the back again, like in the 1200's. If we wouldn't have been fighting Russians, we would never even have been a part of Sweden. It's easy to conquer someone when they are fighting someone else, no country can withstand an two-front war, on opposite directions. An alliance or state union on mutual, 100% EQUAL basis could, maybe be considered.

    • @erikjohansson4275

      ***** Finland has been a part of sweden as it has been a country. And Sweden therefore helped finland form. If it wouldn't have been under swedish rule it's very likely it would have fallen under some other country's rule. After the russian revolution in 1917, Finland took the chance to get it's independence from russia.
      Now, if finns want to be independent from Sweden witch they do, i don't see how sweden would or even could try to annex them. And furthermore, i'm no fervent nationalist, but Finland should have the right to remain independent even if sweden had the ability to forcefully annex them.

      ***** I do appreciate Finland's sacrifices which benefited the rest of the Nordics. The Finns could show some appreciation of what Sweden has done fore them. For those who dont know, despite the fact that Finland has not belonged to Sweden since 1809, (well we were not independent country until 1917, but you get the idea) Swedish still is Finland's 2nd official language even today....meaning that you still get both Finnish and Swedish subtitles in movie theaters, and all the cities, towns, locations have their own, Swedish name as well and in some few locations on coast Swedish is actually the dominating language, instead of Finnish.

      J Gripen hate is a strong word...I would say its more about that many Finnish ppl dislike the "forced" Swedish we have to study in schools, whether we like it or not, and ofc when it comes to sports like hockey, we have strong rivalry culture there :D.....and ofc then there are the gay jokes Finnish ppl like to make out Swedish ppl, and many Finnish-Swedish ppl are seen as "elitists" as they are often seen as ppl who think themselves above other Finnish ppl...if that makes sense :D.
      Anyhow I dont think we have that kind of actual HATE relationship towards Swedish, Russians are whole another story though....

    This must be some video mappers/time-lapse makers ultimate challenge, even more than the HRE: Creating a video map of the Chinese Civil War Every Week. Only it would show absolutely ALL Chinese Cliques, not just the Nationalists and Communists (Of course there would be some type of indicator to show who is aligned to which). I was happy at the Russian Civil War video only showing the Alliances, but that was mainly because I had NEVER seen a video map or even a good documentary on it before. Also, it would have NO breaks, running straight from 1911 to 1951, as other Cliques and the remnants of Nationalist China were at war through all that time. I know it will be difficult (~2600 frames of animation, 16 minutes), and I have no hurry for a map like that (I would even feel happy for a year by year version), but when I get it, when the community gets it, you will have no need to cover the Chinese Civil War any more, and we will be extremely happy about the entire video mapping community!

    • @MrWho45000vr
      @MrWho45000vr  Před 9 lety +2

      Grant Exploit Well, to be fair the HRE is not as complicated as most people think it is. If you take a few maps from important dates in the history of the HRE (for example, 1500, 1648, 1789, etc.) and compare their differences you can get a whole lot done without mistakes. It would take some time, but it would certainly be possible in not too much time.
      The Chinese Civil War however, would probably take years to complete if you were to show all movements in an every day or even every week version. A montly or year by year version should probably be possible in not too much time, though.

      You cannot simply say "under a personal union". The rules of personal unions vary. Technically, the UK is just a personal union and there is no dispute that when it comes to anything but domestic issues, it functions as one country.

    • @micah9639
      @micah9639 Před 9 lety +1

      ***** Thats different because its not a personal union. Each nation in the UK was united politically and they now share common law, currency, etc. Sweden's case was different in that it was never politically united with Denmark. Sure a Danish king sat on Sweden's throne and Sweden was obligated to come to Denmark's aid in times of war because their rulers were the same person but Sweden was virtually independent in all other cases. Laws in Denmark didn't necessarily apply in Sweden and vice versa. All the Kalmar Union was, was a Danish king sitting on the thrones of Sweden and Norway at the same time. All three countries were completely independent of each other but just happened to have the same ruler

    Why is the danish, norwegian and icelandic territories only marked for brief periods?
    Gulland(Gotland) was part of the danish kingdom from 1361 till 1645 and Øland(Öland) was part of danish king, Cnut the great's(Knud den store) kingdom (c. 995- 12 November 1035).
    Also, "Through the signing of the old covenant in 1262, following the civil strife of the Age of the sturlungs, Icelanders had relinquished sovereignty to Haakon IV, King of Norway. Iceland remained under Norwegian kingship until 1380, when the death of Olav IV of Norway extinguished the Norwegian male royal line. Norway (and thus Iceland) then became part of the Kalmar Union with Sweden and Denmark, in which Denmark was the dominant power." - Wikipedia.org
    Union through the Danish King was finally abolished altogether in 1944 during the occupation of Denmark by Nazi Germany.
    Meaning Iceland was part of the danish kingdom from 1380 till 1944.
    "Norway was an influential kingdom of Europe until the mid-14th century, when the Black Plague killed more than half the population. This forced Norway into a personal union with Denmark, which later formed the Kalmar Union with Sweden. Following the departure of Sweden from the Kalmar Union and its dissolution, in 1524 Denmark and Norway entered into a personal union under Danish hegemony, due to Norway's weakened position after the Plague.
    In 1536 the Kingdom of Norway was integrated into Denmark, and as a consequence its Council of the Realm was abolished. However, Norway continued to have separate institutions and its own laws.The union's most important political institutions and monumental palaces were built in Denmark, strategically in order to restrain Norway from rising to great power as possessed during the Viking Age. Norway was re-established as a kingdom in 1660 after the introduction of absolutism.
    The personal union of the two kingdoms lasted until 1814, when the victorious powers of the Napoleonic wars forced the king of Denmark-Norway to cede Norway to Sweden; Norway however resisted the attempt, but was forced
    to accept another personal union with Sweden on relatively equal terms after a short war with no winner.
    The Dano-Norwegian union had a lasting impact on Norway which maintained its cultural ties with Denmark. Throughout its union with Sweden, Norway used the Danish written language which descended from Old East Norse instead of Classical Norwegian or Old West Norse." - Wikipedia.org

Strange argument you have there since ethnic Nordic people are actually the closest people to the first settlers that arrrived from the east around 40 000 years ago. Plus its very easy also to see that for an example the Nordic bronze age are from the same people as the vikings since it also was a boat culture that existed both in Scandinavia, north Germany and some in the baltic countrys with the same hablogroups.
