Those crown school bus are tanks. I've driven a International Prostar with 10 speed manual and the old freightliner Cascadia with 10 speed but they took them away from us and put all of us in Autoshifter, miss driving a standard.
Love this video. I fondly remember the sound of the engine. I don't think ours had a jake however. My bus driver used to race the bus. He'd get to our stop late and by the time we got to school we were early.
MAaaaaan i would love to drive or even ride in this, Brings back so much memories from Elementary school sucks ur not in Southern Cali. They sure dnt make em like this anymore
@@lesliemiros6743 I rode in the Colton and Rialto Crowne school buses! After the Colton High football games my dad would take me to the bus yard just to see all the school buses.
Shane, that is awesome that you saved a fine machine from the wrecking ball. Bravo! I love the sound of those engines. Nice that it has a jake (I can hear it). I started driving school buses in 2005, but at that time all were automatics. There is one private school district here in Hawaii that still had Crown 10-speed (tandem rear axle), Kamehameha schools. They phased all them out and last year was the last run for them. They had whole fleet of them. They have Thomas & International now
we had an old crown like this in my elementry's school district except it was converted to an 8 way system we also had i think one of these in shelton all were automatics and they all had been converted to the 8 way system
I love high performance cars and whatnot, but if I ever have the resources to buy whichever vehicles I so desire, I think an old school bus will be on the list!
@Ferrariman601 Bus has always been on my friends list. 20 years I heard, "one day I'll own a bus..." and now look. Keep a list and watch it happen! Thanks for the comment.
@shane970 I have been a fan of school buses since november of 2001(freshman year of high school.) I mainly like the buses on the international chasis (especially with the T444E or 9.0 liter V8 diesel), but these Crowns are cool too, They are virtually indestructible.

Surprising quality for an old phone.
Interesting Bus
I loved riding in these buses when I was a kid! Bringing back fun memories!
Great bus!! The 10 speeds are so much fun to drive -- but not on a 10 hr day in the city! Thanks for posting!! Great video
Gotta love the sound... I miss driving a 10-Speed. Lovin' the jake and the turbo whistle!

Vote up if your a fan of school buses. Especially Crowns!!
Speechless!!! X-D
Are any of these still in regular use for school districts? I was told they were phased out because of pollution
@busrailfan Isn't that a great sound?! Love the Jake.
the vid from the back makes it look like a runaway bus from the movies haha

nice
@gaelen123 Looks like Monterey, but actually Livermore. About 20 miles North of San Jose.
@shane970 Gillig School buses on ebay now! Not a school bus fan but I'd love to have a Gillig with a 10 speed or a Crown. They are unique.
Driving with too low of a gear. Should be around 1600-1900. Not up around 22-2300
@DB1296 no. Northern CA
I have never rode in a 10 speed but I rode on different year model
Would just putting it in like 3rd or 5th be just as fast as just starting from 1st?
@Myrtone Double clutch. You can see the double clutching in some of my other bus videos. Check them out! Thanks for the comment!
Can you float the gears on this?
@shane970 you ready to sell that Crown yet?
