Back in the 1980s through elementary, intermediate and High School those busses were popular. Every time riding with my older sister down Waianuenue Avenue after school, one of those old busses would kick on the jake and wake me up. I’ve always loved diesel powered engines. As a kid, I only got to ride on gas powered busses. The first time I got to ride on the Crown buss powered by the Detroit diesel engine was awesome. That was back in 1982.
NOTHING about this bus is bad. It sounds so good when shifting through the gears. That Detroit is pure ear candy to the point I would rather listen to that instead of music.
Good for a very old street racer like me! I can make lots of noise and power shift all day, and not break any traffic laws or risk any lives!!! That’s the reasoning that got me into the bus hobby
Amazing! How is it they were just put aside and not driven for thirty years? That Detroit Diesel sound is well remembered from the city transit buses here, back in the day.
@@aljenningscrownandgillig I highly doubt they even had to retire many of them. They just wanna be cool and hip with the new greener stuff. I mean I get it’s hard to maintain a bus after they quit manufacturing them. But even he really old buses probably still have service in them
Is that one of the Old Corona/Norco Unified School - Laidlaw bus... #39 #49 or #50. They were used to go up to Big Bear because 9f the 10 speed Fuller transmission. I see your running around Riverside California
REMEMBER THOSE IN HIGH SCHOOL BUS IN BELLEVUE WASHINGTON STATE. ALL ENGINE NOT MUCH ROOM IN THE ROUND AREA IN BACK OF BUS PURE POWER.❤❤❤ LOVE TO GET 1 BUT OK EVERYTHING IS 🙃 MONEY 💰 🤑 💸 🙃 ❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉😊 HE IS LIKE A KIDS IN A CANDY STORE.❤ 😆 🤣
Also. It’s Crowns and Wards that just seem to run forever. Some of those buses top out at 30 years of service some districts still operate them. If they still made the parts they could probably run another 1 or 2 decades at the least
I love driving 10 speed too! I run KW T880 super 10 dump truck with a paccar Mx-13 and Eaton fuller 10 speed so it’s a Cadillac but that bus you have there sir is a gem in fact I would almost pay you to let me drive:)
Love the sound of that growl when you took her under that bridge 😀💪🏾
I call that the “ Echo Chamber”! Love it too!!

To me it IS music. And I never tire of it!!❤️❤️
It IS music👍👍👍
That bus sounds like a 7 second V8 racing down the drag strip!

I absolutely love your energy and enthusiasm. Age is a number but excitement and joy is timeless. And god that engine sounds so good!
Wow!! Thanks!!!!
Fourteen FABULOUS minutes in Crown #4 SCREAMING STRAIGHT PIPE 6-71 TEN SPEED.
AL JENNINGS You literally have the magic touch!
Thank you. I sure do love driving these old gems!!!
the straight six detroit with the symmetrical header arrangement is probably my favorite sounding engine ever.
Old school shifting like he's licking postage stamps, I 100% concur I'd rather be driving the ole crown than any million dollar super car any day.
PURE BLACK EXHAUST BLOWING OUT THE PIPES.❤
LOVED 💪💪💪
I love this mans outlook on life, put er in gear and smash that throttle.
Something I would never get to hear where I live. Straight piping and noise laws are so strict here.
Laws are strict here too but we only drive as a hobby so nobody seems to mind
Amazing! How is it they were just put aside and not driven for thirty years?

That is impressive watching you fly through 9 unsuncronized gears in traffic
Awesome video thanks for sharing your video
They don’t sound like that no more with all the EPA standards.
They don’t run or drive like the new junk and they last 50 years

How is it that you can shift without using the clutch? I was alwYs told that it will strip the gears.
How fast did you take the ole girl up to when you got on 215?
😁
What is that?
Shouldn’t start in third with a Detroit !!! They hate being lugged,
