@@Dalesorensen43 because they are so aggressive that they will continue to bite even after being caught and when you are targeting trophy Bass and you are using wild golden shiners it gets very expensive and very annoying to catch the same stinking mudfish over and over. I've actually seen it where a mudfish was tossed into a cypress stump that was hollowed out and did not have any water in it and a mudfish was in there for about 3 hours and then my buddy stopped back by and went to go throw the dead mudfish to a gator yet the mudfish was still alive so he tossed it right in the water and it swam away so they are one resilient annoyance. They have somehow evolved to be like a armored catfish AKA walking catfish and can live out of the water for hours so yes I do not feel bad to kill a mudfish they are not in any danger of becoming extinct not in Northeast Florida that is for sure

Those are Warmouth. We call them Goggle-eyes here in south Alabama. The world record for those fish is about 2 1/2lbs and was caught in Florida, any creek you find that has an abundance of them in the size ya'll were catching has the potential to hold a trophy one. I've caught two of them while bass fishing in the creek near here that were just a few ounces shy of our state record of 1lb 12oz's. The first one I had mounted, it measured at 1lb 9oz's. They love hitting bass worms, if you want to target them fish them weightless very slow pretty much right directly on wood cover like lay downs or cypress knees and stumps. I catch most of mine around cypress knees though for some reason, i think they prefer that style cover.
