He definitely isnât alone in that. Iâm English and of course I wanted England to do well, but with Southgate in charge I always knew theyâd fall short. Thatâs why Iâve wanted Messi to win it since day 1. Itâs his last World Cup and football owed him that. I think a lot of England fans wouldve said at the start of the WC, if England couldnât win it, then hopefully Messi can. Itâs not betraying your country, itâs wanting the greatest player of all time to deservedly win the trophy in his last ever WC. Thereâs nothing wrong with that.
totally agree!
đ©
Agreed. I felt the exact same way. I was so happy they won. I'm a huge messi fan.
That means you are all Messi fanboys
@@erickarias3309 yes I am, and I'm proud of it.
Iâm Australian⊠when Argentina played Australia - I was going for Messi
I agree with the fan. I was born and raised in England and have lived here all my life, I absolutely wanted Argentina (and Messi) to win in over England, even if they met in the final. I havenât reacted to a win with so much joy since we (spurs) sealed the comeback vs Ajax in the CL in 2019. Messi above England each and every day of the week and twice on Sundays. Even Brazilians wanted Messi to win it as soon as Brazil were knocked out!
Me too - Messi has been an absolute joy to watch over the last 15 years, I saw him when he was 18 years old tear us apart at Stamford bridge and it wasn't normal, since then I tuned in to every single game he's played because he produces some special every single time. After the years of suffering he's had and the idiotic statements from pundits saying he must win a World Cup, i've been backing him ever since. He's solidified himself as the greatest ever, and i'm delighted for him, we won't ever see another like him.
I said that he is the best ever in 2008 when I saw his 2 seasons in one sit on YT
She said it perfectly, England fans knew they'd bottle it and so, you'd love the fairytale story of Messi winning
Messi has a lot of fans around the world, including the Cristiano Ronaldo son.
He is not alone. There are many like him. That happens when a ball goes beyond national boundaries. Vamos Messi, Vamos Argentina, Vamos World.
Defo not alone. A lot of England fans are not that nationalistic or necessarily like a lot of the England squad or manager. Following Messi for 15 plus years and seeing his heartache on an international stage and wanting to close the GOAT debate left fans of all nations across the world drifting to support Argentina đŠđ·
I'm English but I wanted Messi and Argentina to win too. Love England but this was Messi's last chance and he's given me countless wonderful footballing memories. He's by far the greatest and deserved this. Di Maria too - I've been a harsh critic of his at times but he too deserves this.
Youâre not an England supporter
@@andrewyoung1652 I'm a football fan. I love football and love to see my favourite players do well. I've loved watching Messi since he first came on for Barca. I watched that game because I was a huge Ronaldinho fan. Before that, I loved watching Baggio play and so on. Messi though, he's the greatest I've seen, and I've seen him live twice. He deserves the win, he is the greatest. I am desperate for England to win the Euros and next World Cup now though. I hope we find the solution because the talent is there. So I disagree with you, I am an England supporter, 100% but I am also a football fan 100% and a Messi fan 100%. You can be all of those things at once my friend. Have a lovely Christmas and New Year.
@@timm8123 I'm English, but regardless of that. Two countries put on one hell of a show and that is one of the best WC's ever and Messi was at the centre of everything for Argentina, but however Di Maria he had one of his greatest ever games for his country last night too and Emiliano Martinez was an absolute nuisance for France in the penalty shootout. They knew that đ«đ· were not at full strength and were missing their 5/6 flagship players from the last tournament and they decided to exploit on that, but despite them being pegged back three times by Mbappe. The energy from both sides was exemplary but the right team won in the end.
Perhaps you will join in with their anti Falklands sing songs celebrating English deaths.
@@norwoodboy6048 I wondered when someone would bring politics into this. I am extremely happy for Messi and for the happiness it brings to the Argentinian people who are incredbily passionate about their football. Is that not ok?
Why do you feel the need to make this about something it is not?
I wanted Messi to win it from the beginning and I'm English.. I knew England wouldn't win it before it started, Messi was the greatest of all time before he won the world Cup and the world Cup needed him to win it.. He is football simply the best âœđ

For the sake of football i want Messi to win it... that's a true football fan. You earned my respect sir.
I'm Argentinian, so I'm obviously biased, but I wanted Messi to get this WC so, so much. Not just because he's the GOAT, but because he's also a great human being, he's the opposite of Maradona. Thanks to all English fans who wanted Messi to get this cup.
As did I, and I'm English. I've watched messi nearly every game he's played in since 2010, and he's brought me far more joy watching the sport than any English player ever did or could.
What's wrong with the caller wanting Argentina to win over England?
Nothing wrong with that.
Perry's reaction is ridiculous!
Argentina won the tournament playing good attacking football. I'd rather Messi win it than Gareth Southgate.
I told people, the love people have for Messi, they don't mind rooting for Messi than their team or national team ... Is real .. Africans do it for Messi too.

He's definitely not the only one. I've seen a lot of people share the sentiment including myself.
The Mbappe's, Foden's and Bellingham's of this world have more than enough time later on, but this was Messi last chance ever.
It was CR7s last chance ever too. Look at the behaviour and attitude of CR7 and then look at Messi ??

One things certain, the English will never in a million years have a team that will ever compete with the World's elite.
They won it in 66 and that wasnt a million years ago. So not quite certain .
Not English. But you could be eating your words soon. England have the most talented players in youth football. In recent years they are dominating youth football.
They will never win it. Produce the wrong players, choosing physical over technical and overpay mediocre players early in their careers and it goes straight to their heads and lose the hunger.
@@TheKnowledge1 Ridiculous thing to say. They could have won this tournament if they had a proper manager. They lost to France because of Southgates team selection. He played with two defensive players in midfield and a box to box midfielder. No playmaker which was stupid. Any other manager would have put foden or madison there. You know some one who can link the back to front.
Also maguire in defence was a mistake. Southgate had far better alternatives like tomori who wasn't even in the squad. Maguires lapse defending cost them a goal.
We saw today France are no great shakes. Argentina ran all over them in the first half. Argentina are no great shakes either. Mbappe who england kept quiet scored 3 goals against them. Just like they let a shite Holland team 2 nill down back in the game. They did the same today with France.
Forgot to mention also the first goal France scored was pickford fault. He is a mediocre keeper plays for one of the worst teams in the premier league. Aron ramsdale on the other hand plays for arsenal the best team in Premier league. Put him in goal instead of pickford. That goal doesn't happen.
I am not English so you can't call me biased. There are no great teams out there. If hoddle was manager for instance england would beat either France or Argentina. France are missing half their players and they still brought Argentina to penalties.
I completely agree ...too much unnecessary hype by their media plus they have a coach who doesn't know what he is doing most of the time
its not luck..Qatar deserved this... great hosts
even Rivaldo and Ronaldinho want Messi to win a wc
I think the difference between the host and the fans is that the fans grew up with Messi - he has defined our generation

I get one or 2 loses but 3 then u face a strong French team again in the Euros or a revitalised Spain / Italy / Germany... I'm not convinced...
Man of the match was that Scottish fella, Mac Allister.
You cannot expect to win a World Cup unless you have a Balon Dor level player in your team.
England have a team of very good players but were not German and until we have a Balon Dor level player again we wont likely win the world cup.
Its like having 50 Tim Henman's and wondering why your not wining Wimbledon. Its quality not quantity.

argentina were better anyways, more united and determined to win . The spirt between that team is special . Closest team i think is Croatia .
Fan of my country? No! I am a fan of football! Messiâs success doesnât just symbolize a win for Arg to me, but rather human triumph over the sport itself. The lengths, records, and achievements one man can only achieve happened while I was alive on this earth breathing! and the inspiration Iâve been given alone was worth my support over any country or land. This was the sign of a fulfilled prophecy that came full circle for a human blessed with talent, resilience, and compassion in his ppl and teammates on the pitch. A story that confirms that fairytales can come true. A man giving not only a country, but millions of spectators around the planet a reason to feel joy in their life knowing that what was thought as the unachievable was achieved, even just for a couple days or a couple hours. Ultimately, this is the joy I yearn for when I play the game I love. Everytime I step on a pitch I want to inspire and bring joy to those I can share my skills and talents with, because this sport has given me the chance to empathize, respect, and understand complete strangers/friends and has given me memories I will live with for the rest of my life. What tale is better than that?
If it had been England and Argentina in the final, I would of course have wanted England to win; and the fact that theyâd have been playing against the greatest footballer weâve ever seen would have made the win all the more impressive and valuable.
At the same time, I would have felt sadness for Messi; and if England had lost, thereâs no shame in coming second to the finest footballer in the world on his last hurrah.
Once England were out - I absolutely wanted Messi to win.
