There was a reason why this topped the jury and the televote in the Portugal national selection. Maro has taken the concept of a ballad to a different place and she knocks it put of the park. It's modern, yet vintage.... it's dark, yet heartfelt. It's in the style of a young, edgy muse that has the chance to warm the hearts of the audience. Portugal's bringing a sense of Blanche 2017 to Eurovision 2022 and that's a really good thing. Clever choice Portugal- I love it!

Saudade, saudade is a potentital winner to me. It amazes me the fact that ever since I first listened to this song, it has never stopped giving me goosembumps. and the fact that Portuguese is my mother tongue just makes it even more special, really elevates the song and expands my feelings towards it. Every single thing about this performance is amazing, the staging, the calming tone of her voice, the other women on stage supporting her, the clapping, the simplicity of her outfit, the palpable emotion behind the lyrics. it all comes together in such a unique way. this is gold, you guys. the imperfections make it perfect indeed.

"Saudade" is when we remember those special days that leave a smile on our face. "Saudade" it's when we remember our father's hug after we won the first race of our lives.
"Saudade" it's when we miss our mother's hug and her kiss, and we smile thinking about her.
Saudade it's when a scent of pine and candys reminds us of a Christmas dinner on the mountain, where everyone was still present and we laughed and sing together.
"Saudade" is when we look at the sea and remember the afternoon we met in the beach, but fate didn't allow us to stay together forever.
"Saudade" is when we want to go back to that place where we were happy.
    "Saudade" it's a discontented contentment.

"Saudade" has no direct translation in any other language. It can mean missing someone, or longing... is the pain, the lack of joy, the weight in your heart when you can't be with someone or you can't go back to an experience from the pass.

Portugal is my Top 3 all up to be the winner cause is everything a Portuguese entry can be: melancolic, sweet and its lyrics also make the case for the language itself. "Saudade" is a portuguese word (not an expression) that only existis in portuguese. So when she says "there is nothing more that I can say" she's making the case that the word itself is so unique on its messange that resumes the entire song. PORTUGAL has EVERYTHING this year!!! When Salvador Sobral won the Eurovision, he said "music is not about fireworks, music is about feelings".
The word "saudade" cannot be translated, it means the feeling of loosing, something, someone. You feel "saudade" when you don't see your beloved ones. Even though most people don't know this word and meaning, when you heard it, you feel happines, sadness, whith chills, vibes, nostalgy. It's a word that travels your feelings. Absolutly astonishing song.
I don't care if we will win or not, this music makes me feel.............

The graphics were beautiful, but yeah idk if it would be impactful enough. Love the song, and Maro kinda looks like my younger sister (I have 4 siblings and I’m the only blonde lol) so I’m gonna root for her regardless 😂

Saudade is a term derived from the Lusitanian culture, first Galician and Portuguese, which indicates a form of melancholy, a feeling of nostalgia. Etymologically, it derives from the Latin solitude, solitudinis, solitude, isolation and greetings, greetings and greetings. In some ways, saudade is a kind of nostalgic reminder, affecting a special good that is absent, accompanied by a desire to relive it or to possess it. In many cases, there is almost a mystical dimension, such as acceptance of the past and faith in the future.

Beautifully said i’d just like to add that from the latin word for “saudade” also comes the spanish word “soledad” that has the same meaning, and i’d also like to make a small correction: saudade comes from Galician culture (from which modern galician and Portuguese derive), not lusitanian (which was basically destroyed by the moor invasions and then by the galician “reconquista”). Lusitanian and galician culture have basically nothing in common.

Saudade saudade has the same mesmerizing magic as Ecos na Catedral, by Madredeus. There is no doubt about the timelessness of Saudade saudade. And the most beautiful thing was to see the great Teresa Salgueiro being part of the 1st jury that gave the maximum score (12 points) to this beautiful and unique song.

As I said on Twitter, just when I think I've outgrown this contest, it serves something that is so up my street it's knocking on my front door. This is the kind of music I personally listen to when Eurovision is not on. Trying to label this song within typical Eurovision parameters as either ballad or up/mid-tempo does the song and the listener no favours. It's contemporary indie world music. It's Cafe Del Mar Ibiza Chillout. You listen to this both on the sunlounger and at London's Royal Albert Hall. I'm reminded of an album by the American group Thievery Corporation entitled "Saudade" that's full of similar music, a bit more bossa nova perhaps, so I'd recommend that album to anyone who wants more music like this. As for staging, I think the physical set up is fine, no extra props or performers on stage needed, but it is a bit too flat for Turin as-is. The necessary changes are purely about lighting and camera work, they need to Common-Linnets it a bit, using her live performance in Avinyó as inspiration. You can also draw a good comparison to Hungary 2013 Kedvesem. The only area I'd really experiment with is her outfit, I'm really torn on whether her modern look suits this song more than perhaps if she had her hair down and wore like a woollen poncho or something. With the right changes, this could go top 10, but as long as she qualifies for the final, I'll be happy for her.

In my own experience of loosing the person i loved the most, my father, despite the longing i feel love, a lot of love love you received and gave to that special person. It’s a longing for missing it, the moments you will never live again, but you go on with tranquility supported by the love you felt and gave. This part has a longing part but has a well a celebration of true love which is ramais forever

This song is just perfect. Everything about it sounds magical and unique. It will stand out in Turin for being so fresh and pure... Besides people will identify themselves to the lyrics, especially now that we are living such terrible moments. I can see this doing pretty well with both national juries and the public. ❤️

The word Saudade defines an all cultural spirit of the portuguese soul. Is very hard to translate not because of it means (simply, miss you or miss that) but because of his philosophical meaning (missing someone or something that we belong or belong to us), a mind state that could take us into deep emotions like euphoria or melancholic moods... at the same time. Maro with this work of art knew how to translate that complex emotion in a 'simple' song that I believe will remain in our national songbook. And that is a win already. As a portuguese i am proud to be represented by this beautiful music in the greatest show on earth. Thank you for your review and kind reaction ;)

In her presentation video, Maro revealed that she wrote "saudade, saudade" to remember her grandfather, who recently died. "It wouldn't make much sense not to be me singing such a personal theme", stressed the artist. Maro is the artistic name of Mariana Secca, from Lisbon, who grew up in a family environment marked by music, began studying piano at age four, attended the conservatory and studied at Berklee School in Boston, United States.
