Saudade means longing, missing someone, a place or a period of your life. Finding the word, saying it, acknowledging the feeling is, in a way, comforting, as you, so well noticed. In this case, she dedicated the song to her grandfather that passed away recently.

Now, being a portuguese that really knows how Saudade feels like, I would say that Maro captured the Saudade feeling completely in its essence, and seeing several youtubers reacting to her song crying with goosebumps makes me think that they have just experimented Saudade. The song is about her grandfather, that's why in Portuguese she says "I carry such a heavy weight, and you were always there to help me take the load off, and without you here my life has stopped making sense, for I have lost my best friend. If it is not asking for too much, I ask you to send me a sign that you're okay (in heaven), because when I think of you only one word can leave my mouth "Saudade"" and the song begins with "I tried to write a million songs but (...) Saudade, nothing more than I can say, says it in a better way". Because Saudade is not translatable to English. The best way to explain the feeling is the feeling of wanting to go back to somewhere you can never go again or see someone you know you will never see again.

In her presentation video, Maro from Portugal revealed that she wrote "saudade, saudade" to remember her grandfather, who recently died. "It wouldn't make much sense not to be me singing such a personal theme", stressed the artist. Maro is the artistic name of Mariana Secca, from Lisbon, who grew up in a family environment marked by music, began studying piano at age four, attended the conservatory and studied at Berklee School in Boston, United States.

Saudade is a very unique portuguese feeling, a Word without translation on any other language because in one single Word you can describe a whole pack of emotions about something or someone. It is when you miss a thing you no longer have and yet it also includes the Joy of the moments spent before it was over When you feel saudade, you are feeling a whole pack of longing, nostalgia, sadness and happiness, something you are sad for no longer having and at the same time you treasure the memories you've got... It is Hard to explain, that is why the song says "nothing more than I can say, says it in a better way: Saudade, saudade"
I feel saudade for my deceised parenta and yet I can smile while feeling it, because the good memórias and moments are also present. Its a kind 9f bittersweetness I guess

... Even though this beautiful song is about Maro (beautiful girl from Lisboa-Portugal) and her feelings about missing her dear grandfather and also a friend, the good memories he left for her... war in which Europe and the world suffer negative consequences, where they are lost (by death) and so many family and friends are divided, especially in Europe, due to the residential/cultural destruction and the massacre that is happening in Ukraine, this song Portuguese ("Saudade Saudade" so well interpreted by Maro and her colleagues) appears as an embrace of love, warmth, solidarity, union, inner joy and calm or peace... same peace that Portugal now gives to Europe and the world, through this beautiful music, warm, meditative, deep, healing and full of harmony and subjective hope within a mystical freedom of shared concrete peace!!... Thank you for the nice reaction!! Amazing song Portugal 💜☮️ beautiful, quality!! Ah... "SAUDADE" in addition to meaning a melancholy feeling due to death (here remembering the good times spent together with the grandfather) or inner joy; or the simple removal of a person, a thing or a place, or the absence of pleasurable experiences already lived is, at the same time, a sincere and deep desire for all this!... For a warm hug, to be loved, to a joyful, unique, harmonious and peaceful space. That's why you can also send a lot of "SAUDADES" to a girlfriend/boyfriend, family or friends!... I'm Angolan and Portuguese descent; now living in Switzerland for 12 years now; but I am attentive to the country (Portugal) that knew how to welcome and love me as a refugee from war, where I studied, formed my personality and made great friends. I love you Portugal!! 😍😘🥳🥰💖❤️

SAUDADE means all these words (missing someone or a place, pain, sadness).... SAUDADE!

Saudade is a term derived from the Lusitanian culture, first Galician and Portuguese, which indicates a form of melancholy, a feeling of nostalgia. Etymologically, it derives from the Latin solitude, solitudinis, solitude, isolation and greetings, greetings and greetings. In some ways, saudade is a kind of nostalgic reminder, affecting a special good that is absent, accompanied by a desire to relive it or to possess it. In many cases, there is almost a mystical dimension, such as acceptance of the past and faith in the future.

    (Saudade)
It was taught to us Portuguese people since young age that a lot of people died several centuries ago, specially young people and kids, across Europe of course, not only in Portugal, because wars, hunger, illnesses, people had to deal with constant loss and pain... But when you bury the body you keep the memory alive like the graves where the bodies rest... But when the constant traveling across the sea of portuguese sailors, fathers and sons for months and years, that takes the certainty of where our loved ones are or if they are alive or dead... Not knowing the day those sailors and soldiers would come back to their families, if there was a come back, it took away that certainty from a lot of mothers and wives, grand parents, friends, children, including the memory, the finality and at the end their meaning of life... And that anguish and dispair that could crumble an entire people in pain until extinction, in the case of Portuguese people it changed into a bearable feeling... The sweet and addicted feeling of hope dressed in an eternal sadness: Saudade... And that turned out as a portuguese people identity and cultural expression, specially in the case of Fado music. Of course nowadays the term Saudade lost that primal meaning because times changed... But portuguese people did refuse to let the word die, even though it changed into something more trivial, it kept the deepness, because like I said it turned out as a people cultural identity.

"Saudade" is a deep emotional state of nostalgic or profound melancholic longing for something or someone that one cares for and/or loves. Moreover, it often carries a repressed knowledge that the object of longing might never be had again. It is the recollection of feelings, experiences, places, or events that once brought excitement, pleasure, and well-being, which now trigger the senses and make one experience the pain of separation from those joyous sensations. Saudade describes a feeling both happy and sad.
It's quite hard hard to describe, since it does not have a direct translation to most languages. It's a mix of longing, nostalgia, sadness, happiness, missing something/someone/a place/a time...

Saudade is big as a country! If you ask a portuguese to find a word to define the portuguese people, well that is the word that they will choose. Now... the meaning and translation of the word is long debated, and is used in Portugal a lot when they "miss something or someone", which is the case of Maro on this song. The song is about the loss of her best friend and grandmother, but Saudade takes "missing something" to another level (of soul digging) when you are overseas (which is also the case of Maro)... that's where I believe the "Saudade" feeling is really a very portuguese thing. Probably comes from Luis the Camões and the portuguese conquistadores and the portuguese curse of having always someone overseas

saudade, significa o que o teu coração sente, e teu cérebro memoriza, do que vivenciaste e te deixam boas memórias, então para mim, a tradução de Saudades , são boas memórias do coração
